00:06and I think it starts right there with the rules.

00:10When you sit down to watch a home run derby,
00:13it's meant to be goofy, it's meant to be kooky,
00:15it's meant to be a break, even for the fans.

00:19Like, we sit there and watch these baseball games
00:21and, oh, this manager sucks, this bullpen sucks.
00:24It's meant to be baseball adjacent
00:26where you kind of just connect with some stars
00:28and watch some long balls.
00:29The problem with the clock in past years,
00:30in the last decade,
00:32and even some of the bracketed stuff they did,
00:34was that guys would just be ripping pitches
00:37for two and a half minutes.
00:38You wouldn't be able to appreciate where they landed,
00:41what was going on, the nonsense of it.
00:43Yesterday when I sat down, Tiki,
00:45and I said, all right, well, let's see where this goes.
00:46I couldn't figure out.
00:47I just said Taylor, my daughter, was sitting with me.
00:49Well, how many home runs do you think Ben Rice is going to hit?
00:51I'm like, I don't really know how this is going to work with 20 swings.
00:54And then the moment Wilson Contreras started this,
00:56and then Jordan Walker went second,
00:57and they were hitting in the teens.
00:58I think they both hit 13 in round one.
01:00I'm like, oh, boy.
01:00First of all, I didn't think Ben Rice was going to hit that.
01:02He didn't.
01:03He had seven.
01:04But I was almost surprised by how many home runs they hit
01:08based on swings,
01:09and I think it's because they allowed themselves to breathe a little.
