Some traditions have a way of making room for unexpected participants.

A dog walks along a street with a bundle of laurel branches secured across its back. The animal moves steadily through the scene as people and the surroundings pass in the background.

The filmer, Osvaldo Michael, told WooGlobe: “On the Friday of Sorrows, people from the community of Salvador Escalante travel to Ixtaro, Michoacán, to cut laurel branches. These branches are then taken back to their community, carried by cars, horses, and the people themselves, where they keep vigil over the laurel throughout the night in preparation for Holy Week and Palm Sunday.”

The sight of the dog carrying greenery like the others adds a small, memorable detail to the day’s preparations.

The moment lands as a quiet reminder of how community rituals can include all kinds of company.
