The reason we can't wait for training camp this year more than any other is so we can finally see once and for all how the Tua Tagovailoa and Michael Penix Jr. perform at camp in the heat of real competition. The speculation and playing favorites will go by the wayside, and the better player will win the job.

00:00Look, I haven't seen it yet, obviously, because it's not out,
00:02but there are previews out there.
00:03Season 3 of Netflix, Quarterback.
00:06Comes out tomorrow, apparently, okay?
00:08And we're counting down the camp and all of that.
00:10But Baker Mayfield apparently discloses a bunch of injuries
00:15that he was dealing with.
00:17And his teammate, former teammate, Levante David,
00:20said on a podcast recently,
00:22I'm telling you, man, he was going through a lot.
00:25Did you see him dancing, by the way, at Lake Tahoe?
00:27Did you see the dance?
00:27Did you see Baker Mayfield breaking it down?
00:30He can get it in, man.
00:31You're doing the ducky.
00:32He was doing all that at OU.
00:33He can get it in.
00:36Here's what is being said.
00:38I haven't seen it yet.
00:39It'll come out again tomorrow.
00:40But he does this interview, and he says week 2, sprained MCL, PCL, bone bruise.
00:46Week 3, bicep tendon injury.
00:48Week 7, aggravated bone bruise.
00:51Week 12, AC joint injury.
00:52And the point is, he feels like these were the injuries that derailed the Buccaneers' season.
01:01Now, look, they still were a very good team.
01:03Obviously, they didn't win the division, right?
01:04That's Carolina, and then we saw Carolina get a chance to go on into the playoffs.
01:08But these are the kind of things, Mike, during a season that injuries are one thing.
01:13But this is going to come back to the Falcons, because I'm going to say this for a second.
01:17Injury sometimes derails a season, or it happens, especially at the premier position at quarterback,
01:21and you just kind of shrug your shoulders and say, we did the best we could.
01:24Then you have internal things in the building that derail a season, like we had last year,
01:32where you had a head coach who was dealing with all this crap and really didn't know how to deal
01:37with it
01:38and bring everybody back together.
01:40Look, I've said this to you guys.
01:42The great ones know how to get everybody back on track.
01:46Say what you want about Belichick, and I've been critical of him.
01:48This whole debacle with North Carolina, and I don't know how serious it's going to get.
01:52He's still there, his girlfriend, all that crap.
01:54But when he was in New England, Mike, he had the ability to keep everybody on the same track.
02:00And, you know, Andy Reid's done this.
02:02You just go down the line.
02:03And if you can't do that when things are going bad in your building, Mike,
02:07it's going to end badly for you.
02:09And that's what happened with our Falcons, with Raheem Morris, plain and simple.
02:13So injuries are one thing.
02:15And we'll figure out, you know, we'll watch his quarterback, Doc, and see what happens.
02:18It's supposed to be pretty decent.
02:19But Baker reveals there were a bunch of things that he was dealing with,
02:22and he feels like that is why this offense, the numbers went down.
02:26I will say this.
02:27It's very LeBron-like to go, you know, I've got to remind you that I was very injured.
02:31I was not 100%.
02:33I was not an optimal performance.
02:35I sold you, Don.
02:36I'm going to remind you, I played with a lot of pain this year.
02:38So, I mean, I like Baker.
02:40I think, you know, sometimes he can be his own worst enemy.
02:41But he's letting you know, though, you know, a little bit of that.
02:44And by the way, that wasn't really 100%.
02:46Well, 2023, right?
02:48He goes, Brady retires, and he throws for 4,000 yards and 28 touchdowns.
02:52Everybody said, wow, this is perfect.
02:53That was his best season there.
02:55And then you look at the last couple of years, and even Mike Evans, Mike,
02:59the numbers went down.
03:00They went down.
03:01So, I hear you.
03:02Remember, there was that conversation, that early, way too early in the year MVP talk.
03:06Yes.
03:07Baker was on that short list.
03:08Yeah.
03:08So, it's just one of those things.
03:10But these are the kind of things that will be coming out here.
03:12And as teams get ready for camp, and that's a team we pay attention to
03:15because they're in our division.
03:16And by the way, we'll be making our way around and talking to each city about camp
03:22as we get ready.
03:22We're going to head to New Orleans.
03:23We're going to head to Tampa.
03:24We're going to head to Carolina.
03:26And Friday, our man B-Mac came on, and we were talking to him about
03:30how much he likes Carolina because I brought up the fact I really liked
03:33what they did in the draft.
03:34And a good free agent moves them, but the draft was tight.
03:37And they had a good draft.
03:38They did.
03:38But he was like, I really like what Carolina's doing.
03:41And I was like, heee.
03:43And then he started talking about their defensive personnel.
03:45All right.
03:46Up front, man, they are stout.
03:48They are.
03:49I mean, like, we're worried about our D-line.
03:50Who's the Derrick Browns living on our backfield for the last seven, eight years?
03:53Well, you know, they drafted the kid out of A&M last year.
03:57And then they got better with their linebackers.
03:59And he started talking about defensively, like, they're going to be really good.
04:03And I'm like, eee.
04:04So we'll see.
04:05But the Bucs, you can't count them out, man.
04:08Can't count them out.
04:09I know that this year, I just can't wait after all the fun.
04:12It'll be a lot of fun.
04:13I mean, it's like a classic barbershop or a sports bar argument about Tua versus
04:19Pennix.
04:19Now the rubber hits the road.
04:21And now I'm curious to see.
04:23Now, Day Day, you're telling me he got a hole in one while I was gone?
04:26Well, no.
04:26I think Oren saw the golf video.
04:28But on Friday, Thursday, was it Thursday, where there was the video of him throwing
04:33around.
04:34In his backyard.
04:35Well, it wasn't really his backyard.
04:36It was a park.
04:37Okay.
04:38All right.
04:38All right.
04:39I want to know who shot the footage.
04:42Well, was somebody, like, sneaking around the bushes?
04:44No, they were right up on him.
04:46No, it was somebody in his camp, because they put music to it.
04:49So this was calculated, is what you're telling me.
04:51Somebody.
04:51You sound like you're offended right now that Michael Pennix Jr. looked good in this video.
04:57T.
04:58Here's the deal.
04:59Is there like Eye of the Tiger playing in the background while he was doing this?
05:02We should have been.
05:03That's a good point.
05:04No.
05:04Everybody was like, man, have you seen it?
05:06I'm so glad you weren't here, because you would have been getting this.
05:08Have you seen the Pennix video?
05:10But I said, who shot the video?
05:12Obviously, this was done on purpose to put out there.
05:15Look at my man, and look how good he looks.
05:17I don't have that in front of me today.
05:22Again, this is going to be like every day.
05:25You've got to imagine.
05:25After camp, we'll be on the radio, and we'll be breaking down.
05:29I think we need to have all these metrics.
05:32Tua's footwork versus Pennix's footwork.
05:34Tua's accuracy.
05:35Day-day, we will come up, Carl, with all of the metrics.
05:37The analytics.
05:37The QB analytics every day, and give you like a 1-10 rating.
05:41There was a guy for the Eagles, I think it was the year before last,
05:44he charted every single throw the quarterbacks threw in the preseason
05:48and kept track of the interceptions and completions and whatnot
05:51for both quarterbacks.
05:52Jalen Hurts came to the quarterbacks for the preseason.
05:54Well, actually, Mark Ramondi does that, because we're too lazy to do that,
05:57but Mark actually does that at practice.
05:58He'll be like, he'll have his notepad out, and he'll have stick marks.
06:01And D-Ledt will do that.
06:02Thanks, Michael Carl!
06:03Yeah, very analog.
06:05But we'll also use that input, Carl, because I'm not going to be doing that.
06:08No, no, no, no.
06:09It's time to do that.
06:10Well, here's the deal, too.
06:11Sometimes, I mean, they're taking stats, and nobody's defending these guys.
06:15I mean, he was one of seven versus air.
06:18We really benched that to have.
06:20Yes.
06:21But we'll give you all of this.
06:22He had three drops.
06:23I'm like, yes, it was an out pattern, and nobody was out there.
06:25What do you want me to do?
06:26All right, man.
06:27We'll see when we get there.
06:28Coach, I can't wait.
06:29Cannot wait, Kevin.
06:30Can't wait.
06:31All right, man, let's talk some more NFL.
06:32Let's get to a fourth and one.
06:34It's time for fourth and one on Dukes and Bell.
06:37First down.
06:37Let's get this right now.
06:38All the NFL news and notes you need as we drive for the touchdown on Sports Radio 92.9,
06:44The Game.
06:44Fire out.
06:45What?
06:45A guy who watches this on YouTube and Twitch, a D-create vision.
06:49What's up, create vision?
06:50They love hating on panics.
06:51How is any of that conversation hate?
06:55Now, we're having fun.
06:57It's called tongue-in-cheek.
06:58A lot of you guys under the age of 30 don't really understand that.
07:00We were having fun.
07:01There's not one thing that we said negative about panics.
07:03Not one.
07:05Stop that.
07:06There was not one piece of anything we said that was negative about Michael Pettigrew.
07:10This was propaganda.
07:12Not.
07:12They put this out there purposely to show you so you would feel some kind of way about
07:18the knee.
07:20Why didn't they release this earlier?
07:22They did it for you to go.
07:25Man, he's going to be ready for camp.
07:26They did it just for you.
07:29He can't be.
07:30D-create vision, whatever the hell your name is.
07:32They did it just for you to hang your little hat on.
07:35You know when Orin plays that, I laugh every time.
07:37Can he be trusted?
07:38Can he be trusted?
07:40It's the truth.
07:41That's not hating.
07:43That's just telling you.
07:44And look, I've said this.
07:45I would love to see Michael Pettigrew be 200%.
07:48Right.
07:49But I don't know.
07:50And I can't go off on one video.
07:52Where'd you say it was a park or his backyard?
07:54It was a park.
07:57I don't know what park.
07:58Somewhere down in Florida, probably.
08:00But listen, he was throwing some nice.
08:01Yeah, that's right.
08:02Because I think he actually had his youth thing last week, if I'm not mistaken.
08:07Do they show his face?
08:08Yeah, it's Michael Pettigrew.
08:10It's definitely Michael Pettigrew.
08:11All right.
08:12Can he be trusted?
08:14That's all I'm asking.
08:15Mike, I'm with you.
08:17I felt like this video, the timing of it, right?
08:21It's like a couple of weeks before camp.
08:23You put it out there.
08:24And I think the phrase was, he's dropping dots or something like that, dimes.
08:29Well, panic says, can't realize you must win the hearts and minds.
08:32Unfortunately, you can't win Carl's heart and mind because he's already got it with Tua.
08:35This is not true.
08:37Although, man, I got to tell you.
08:39I think at the end of the day, you're either a competitor or you're not.
08:42I got to tell you.
08:43More and more of my guys around the league are like, yo, this guy's going to win the job.
08:46Tua Fuchsius makes a lot of sense there.
08:48Tua Fuchsius?
08:49Fuchsius?
08:50Hey, let me ask you this.
08:51It's been over 18 months since he's played in the NFL.
08:54I think he's done.
08:55I think Brandon Ayuk has made his bet really hard, Mike, with the way he's going about his business.
09:00Nobody really wants to go down this road now.
09:02It seems like, again, cherry picking the commanders and saying that's where you're going to go.
09:06But you want to find me?
09:08Read up all the commanders.
09:09And it just seems like the 49ers can just let him twist in the wind, too, by the way.
09:13Where are you going to go with this guy?
09:15Because he's just, I hate to say it, I don't know Brandon personally.
09:18I thought he was an okay dude, but he comes off as another one of these panty-ass diva wide
09:21receivers.
09:22He does.
09:22I just, I feel like, and the reason why I only bring this up is because, you know, if you
09:26are
09:26questioning our wide receiver room, you're going, man, Ayuk wants to go somewhere.
09:30No, thank you.
09:31This is a headache.
09:32I don't want that smoke.
09:33Just like, again, Tariq Hill.
09:34No way.
09:34You go take Tariq Hill.
09:35I don't want any of that.
09:36Yeah.
09:37It's a headache.
09:37That's Antonio Brown light.
09:38It really is.
09:39And by the way, the latest with him is that he's got to be reinstated, right?
09:46That's part of this, if I understand this correctly.
09:50But the 49ers, his refusal to apply for reinstatement could mean the end of his NFL career.
09:55So we'll see where it goes.
09:56But this idea like, man, Ayuk's out there.
09:58No, thank you.
09:59No interest whatsoever.
10:01Mike Aaron Donald worked out for the Rams at the Rams facility.
10:04Didn't work out for them, but he worked out at the Rams facility.
10:06Big deal or no deal?
10:08Well, how many times can you see a guy playing Frisbee with 45-pound plates?
10:11That's apparently what he was doing.
10:12No, I'm kidding.
10:13But he's that guy.
10:14He is.
10:15I mean, there's certain guys, a lot of linemen, because they carry that extra weight, like
10:19our good friend Randy Cross.
10:20As soon as they retire, they drop that weight.
10:22And they look like a giant bobblehead.
10:25And not that Randy looks like that.
10:26But you get the idea.
10:27Guys lose LBs.
10:28This is a guy who's always been at top peak condition.
10:31And he didn't drop anything.
10:32You see him.
10:33There was a video of him working out with one of the Rams the other day.
10:34It's like, geez louise.
10:36It doesn't look like he's missed a beat.
10:37No.
10:37And everybody's saying, because of that, I worked out at the Rams facility.
10:40Guys, he's a future Hall of Famer.
10:42He may be the best Ram ever.
10:44And now you're going to put Matthew Stafford in that conversation, obviously.
10:46But seriously, I don't think that's something to be like, oh, he's coming back.
10:51I think he probably could go there anytime he wanted to to work out.
10:53It's like Julio's showing up at the Falcons facility.
10:55He's not coming back.
10:56He's up there kicking it and wanted to work out.
10:59Right.
10:59And we've seen a lot of the old stars.
11:00Roddy's been by.
11:01We've seen Mohamed Sanu out there with Matt when he's looking at Georgia Tech players.
11:04So anyway, yeah, Aaron Donald, normally when a guy steps away from the game, you just
11:08say forget it.
11:09I don't know what Odell Beckham's got left.
11:10I mean, I'm sure Odell Beckham can still catch a football and contribute to a team.
11:14But I think Aaron Donald, with a pitch count, like 25 snaps a game, can come in and get you
11:19over the finish line.
11:20What do you think of Stefan Diggs?
11:21He says there's no No. 2 wide receiver better than him.
11:24Name his quote, not mine.
11:25Name your No. 2 wide receiver right now and tell me how much he makes.
11:29And then my last question is, is he better than me?
11:32Again, you're in that category of, I don't want that smoke.
11:35You know?
11:36I mean, also, I don't want to hear about those text messages with you and that dude.
11:39But anyway, as far as Stefan Diggs, hey man, what do you do what you do?
11:43But it just seems like, now look, say that right now.
11:46It's not camp yet.
11:47Somebody blows out an Achilles, somebody's going to call Stefan Diggs.
11:49Yeah, you're right.
11:50And he'll get a shot.
11:51You're right.
11:51And he will.
11:51He will get a shot.
11:52I think he will, too.
11:54Who did the Patriots, they upgraded, they went and got, who am I thinking of?
11:57Because Diggs made the trade for A.J. Brown.
11:59That's right.
12:00That's right.
12:00Because a lot of people are like, is Brown better than Diggs?
12:03Yes, he is.
12:03I think Brown is better than Diggs at this point in his career.
12:06Right.
12:06Tom Brady had a lot to say.
12:07Tom Brady saying that A.J. Brown, talking about the Eagles, he says you get to a point
12:12where you can handle a bit of squawking.
12:14He says eventually you become a distraction that your team can't get past.
12:16And he was talking about A.J. Brown these last few years.
12:18I do agree with that.
12:20All right.
12:20When we come back, they put the top 10 quarterback rankings out.
12:24You need to hear this.
12:27And you will next on Sports Radio 92.9 The Game.
