00:20If you then be risen with Christ, seek those things which are above, where Christ sitteth on the right hand

00:27Set your affections on things above, not on the earth.
00:32This text is talking to believers.
00:35Paul said, if you be risen with Christ, those that are risen with Christ, those who are brought back to
00:42spiritual life, those who share in Christ's resurrection life.
00:46He said, those people are to seek those things that are above.
00:50What do we mean by things that are above?
00:52We're talking about God himself is above.
00:54We're talking about truth.
00:56We're supposed to seek that.
00:57We're supposed to seek righteousness, holiness, purity.
01:01These things that are of God, not of this world, seek things that are above.
01:06It doesn't just happen.
01:09You must do some deliberately setting your mind on it.
01:13You should be doing some focusing.
01:15This is not a casual thing.
01:16This is something that you do intentionally.
01:18We are to set our mind, our desire, our goals, our identity in Christ Jesus.
01:24It should not be set on this earth.
01:28This text is saying, set your affections.
01:31We're talking about setting your longings.
01:34We're talking about setting your desires and your emotions on things above.
01:40This just doesn't happen.
01:43It's intentional work.
01:45Oh, Lord.
01:46What does that look like practically?
01:47Meaning that I'm setting my mind on studying of God's word.
01:51I'm setting my mind on prayer.
01:53It's not just an afterthought.
01:54I must be in attendance at a Bible-believing church.
01:58I must be setting my actions.
02:00Would God do this?
02:01I am setting my mind on things above so I can head that way.
02:06Where you set your mind, you will head that way.
02:10Ah, help me, God.
02:11So help us as believers, oh God.
02:13Set our mind in a direction that we are to head.
02:16And it is not on things of this earth.
02:19Help us, God.
02:19In Jesus' name we pray and say amen.
02:21I don't want to pay attention to those thoughts because they are worthless to me.
