00:16A hostile aircraft in the sky over southern Iran, air defenses lock on.
00:21Seconds later, Tehran says it's down.
00:25This is the latest flashpoint in a ceasefire that's barely holding.
00:30Monday, July 13th, Iran's army says its air defenses identified, intercepted, and destroyed a U.S. drone,
00:37described as a Lucas-type aircraft, near Hajiabad in Bandar Abbas County.
00:43That's Hormuzgan province, right on Iran's southern coast, overlooking the Strait of Hormuz.
00:49The claim comes from Mare News Agency, citing an official Iranian army statement.
00:54According to Tehran, the drone was shot down while forces were responding to what they called enemy attacks and securing
01:02their airspace.
01:03And here's the thing.
01:04This isn't new.
01:06Iran has made similar shutdown claims repeatedly since the conflict escalated,
01:11including multiple MQ-9 Reaper drones in provinces like Boucher earlier this month.
01:16It's become almost a pattern.
01:18U.S. strikes hit Iranian territory, and shortly after, Iran announces it's knocked something out of the sky in response.
01:26As of now, U.S. officials haven't confirmed this specific incident.
01:30That's consistent with almost every previous claim like it.
01:34Washington typically stays quiet, and independent verification rarely comes quickly, if at all.
01:39To understand why this is happening, you have to look at the bigger picture.
01:45In the hours and days before this claim, the U.S. carried out fresh waves of strikes across southern Iran,
01:51Boucher, Huzestan, Hormuzgan, even Chabahar and Keshem Island.
01:57The targets?
01:58Air defenses, coastal radar, missile and drone storage, naval assets, and some rail infrastructure.
02:05CENTCOM says these strikes are retaliation for Iranian threats to commercial shipping in the Strait of Hormuz,
02:11one of the most critical oil choke points on the planet.
02:14Iran's response has followed a now-familiar rhythm.
02:17Missile and drone attacks on U.S.-linked bases in Kuwait, Bahrain, and Qatar.
02:22And now, apparently, a drone shot down right on its own soil.
02:27All of this is happening under the shadow of a ceasefire,
02:30a Pakistani-mediated agreement from mid-June that was supposed to pause large-scale fighting.
02:36But both sides now accuse each other of breaking it.
02:40The U.S. has reimposed some sanctions.
02:43Iran is warning of what it calls crushing responses.
02:46And reports out of Washington suggest even President Trump has signaled truce may be effectively over.
02:52So is this drone claim the real deal, or just the latest unverified headline in a war of narratives?
02:59Right now, nobody outside Tehran can say for sure.
03:03What we do know is this.
03:05The Strait of Hormuz is still a tinderbox,
03:08and every claim like this one adds fuel to a fire that shows no sign of going out.
