04:15of relative calm, missiles and drones are once again flying across the Saudi-Yemen border.
04:22An Sarula, also known as the Houthis, has launched retaliatory attacks targeting Saudi
04:29Arabia's Abha International Airport, raising fears that the fragile 2022 truce could be collapsing.
04:36The escalation began after Yemen's internationally recognized Saudi-backed government carried out
04:44airstrikes on Sana'a International Airport on July 13. According to officials, the operation
04:51targeted the airport's runway to stop an Iranian aircraft from landing. The plane was reportedly
04:58carrying Houthi delegates, with authorities describing the flight as a violation of Yemeni airspace.
05:04The Houthis blamed Saudi Arabia for what they described as an act of aggression,
05:10even though the internationally recognized Yemeni government said it carried out the strike.
05:16Within hours, Houthi military spokesperson Yahya Sari announced a retaliatory military operation
05:24against Saudi Arabia. The Houthis said they launched ballistic missiles and drones targeting Abha
05:31International Airport in Saudi Arabia's Asir province, near the Yemeni border. Some reports
05:38also said the nearby King Khalid Air Base was among the targets.
05:44Saudi authorities said their air defense systems intercepted the incoming missiles and drones
05:50over the kingdom's southern region. As of now, Saudi officials have not reported any confirmed
05:56casualties or significant damage at Abha Airport. Meanwhile, Houthi-affiliated sources and several
06:04social media accounts said the airport was damaged and flight operations were disrupted. However,
06:11these reports have not been independently verified. The latest exchange has raised concerns that the
06:17relative calm maintained since the 2022 Yemen truce could be coming to an end. Analysts say the incident
06:25comes at a time of heightened regional tensions, with the Houthis already involved in attacks linked to
06:32Red Sea shipping, while negotiations over Yemen's future remain stalled. Saudi Arabia has repeatedly relied
06:40on its advanced air defense network to intercept Houthi missiles and drones, including during previous
06:47attacks on Abha Airport in earlier years. For now, there is no confirmed evidence of broader Saudi
06:55retaliatory strikes following the latest incident. However, the situation remains highly fluid, with both sides
07:03continuing to issue competing accounts. International observers are closely monitoring developments, as fears
07:11grow that this latest confrontation could trigger a wider escalation in the Yemen conflict.
