Darley Street Market, which has been hailed for “bringing a feel-good factor” back to Bradford city centre, is celebrating its first anniversary.

00:00This Bradford-based market is celebrating a full year since launch.
00:05Darlay Street Market has been named Britain's best food market,
00:09hosted wrestling events and concerts,
00:11and become a key part of the city's regeneration in its first 12 months.
00:16In the pipeline for over a decade before it opened,
00:20the market replaced Bradford's two existing city centre markets,
00:24Osla and Kirkgate.
00:26Both of those buildings are to be demolished in the coming year
00:29to make way for the new city-village development
00:31of over 1,000 homes, public spaces and new business units.
00:36After months of delays, the £32.3 million market
00:40opened its doors on 10 July 2025,
00:43ahead of its official opening weekend.
00:46Darlay Street Market is home to non-food stalls on its ground floor,
00:51fresh food stalls on its first floor and a food court
00:54featuring multiple different cuisines on the top floor,
00:57along with a stage and balcony.
00:59The market also has two ground floor cafes
01:02and a courtyard that has been used to host numerous events.
01:05The market was built on the site of the former Marks & Spencer building
01:08on Darlay Street,
01:09a road that was once Bradford's premier shopping street,
01:12but which had been in decline since the opening of the Broadway shopping centre.
01:17It also complements Loading Bay,
01:19an arts venue just yards away.
01:21The market was one of the main city centre regeneration schemes
01:24developed by the council's former Labour leadership
01:26before they were ousted in May's elections.
