Speaking from the 2025 Rolling Stone UK Awards, Jessie J explained why she felt compelled to hug Catherine, Princess of Wales at the 2025 Royal Variety Performance.
Both Jessie and Princess Kate have spoken publicly about their own experiences with cancer this year, which led the British singer to initiate a hug with the Princess of Wales.

00:26Tell me the story of last night's Royal Variety. I think I saw you hugging royalty.
00:29Is that like a regular experience?
00:30No, I didn't. To be honest with you, I've only just had a second to like see that
00:34that obviously was a moment shared between, for me, two mums that have gone through
00:39something similar this year that, you know, I just wanted to tell her that I think
00:44it's amazing that she's gone through it publicly as I have and I just know it isn't
00:47easy and I just wanted to give her a hug and it was a really lovely human-to-human
00:51moment, mum-to-mum. But yeah, last night was so beautiful, you know, it was
00:56honestly like a trippy school play with a big budget. You know, I'm standing next to
01:02Paddington Bear like, hello. But I sang a really important song about a friend of mine
01:08who took his life seven years ago and it's a song that I saw on my album that I hope can
01:14help people that feel alone and for people that are left behind when they've lost people.
01:19It's important for me to make music that makes people feel something.

01:25Yes, next week.

01:29Oh yeah. I don't know. I feel like I work my ass off. I give people what I can. If they like it, I've done all I can. If they don't, I can cook so I'll try and do a bit of that. You know?
