00:01Welcome to Bermuda.
00:03An island in the middle of the Atlantic.
00:08I wouldn't want to police anywhere else. It's paradise.
00:12A police service tackling crime.
00:15Looks like a homemade machete, doesn't it?
00:18To keep this British Overseas Territory safe.
00:22We've got a bike failing to stop.
00:26Right now, you're swearing at me and I'm disrespectful.
00:30Up close to investigations.
00:33One of the most dangerous drugs in the market today is a killer.
00:37Is there extra pressure with it being linked to a murder?
00:40I'd say so.
00:41Catching criminals at the border.
00:43You are being placed under arrest with a suspicion of conspiracy to employ drugs into Bermuda.
00:48At the airport.
00:49A canine has shown interest in your bags.
00:53And on the water.
00:55You're walking away from my officers.
00:57Can you stop the boat, please?
00:59With the busy summer here.
01:01Get back, please. Go back, go back.
01:03This is peak season for the police.
01:06Go, go, go, go, go.
01:10It's a kind of view, isn't it?
01:11Mm-hmm.
01:17Today, for officers in Bermuda.
01:20How's it going?
01:21A high-speed chase of a biker on the run.
01:25Police, just turn your bike off for me.
01:27Just jump off the bike.
01:28Zero tolerance on the streets.
01:31There's a sign above you, sir.
01:33Can you pay attention to that sign and remove yourself from there, sir?
01:37And an island-wide crackdown on antisocial behaviour.
01:41It's such arbitrary.
01:44It's arbitrary.
01:45What you guys are doing here?
01:46I just want you to move to the side.
01:48This is very wrong!
01:49Don't put your fingers near the doll's mouth.
01:52Good job, buddy.
01:58Half a million visitors flock to Bermuda each year.
02:01So, keeping its beauty spots safe and trouble-free is a top priority for the island's 376-strong police service.
02:17Today, officers are launching a major crackdown on antisocial behaviour across the island.
02:23Starting in Hamilton, the busy capital of Bermuda and tourist hotspot.
02:28The operation is headed up by Trinidadian police constable Krishna Singh, who's lived in Bermuda for 30 years.
02:37It's a good place to raise kids, have a family, you know.
02:41So, I love it. I love it.
02:43And as a family man, keeping Hamilton Street safe from disruptive groups is especially important to Officer Krishna.
02:52I have a family. I have kids.
02:53I don't want to live in a place where people drinking right next to you, cussing and carrying on bad.
03:01To tackle the troublemakers, Officer Krishna has assembled a skilled group of a dozen officers from across the police service.
03:09All right, everybody ready?
03:10The police support unit will also be on hand, alongside police constable Oberswong.
03:16There's a lot more manpower, and they're especially trained to deal with these types of matters.
03:21And also, with the presence of the decanine unit, that will act as a deterrent.
03:25Obviously, the dog will be able to pick up things that we can't, if someone shouldn't have some sort of
03:29substance on them.
03:31So, it's a great asset to help along with us.
03:35Their target is Elizabeth Park, in the heart of Hamilton.
03:39Popular with tourists, but also known for public drinking, which is illegal in Bermuda.
03:46So, we had a big convoy of people. The PSU team, my team.
03:53Well, of course we want to catch these guys off guard.
03:56We don't want to give them any opportunity to hide anything, or to run and move anything, or to run
04:01off.
04:01You never know. It could be just a simple conversation that could turn ugly in a snap of a finger.
04:07Hope for the best. Always be prepared for the worst, because you never know.
04:26They surprise a group of men gathered in the park.
04:30It's arbitrary. It's arbitrary. No. No.
04:35Can you step away from the door, please?
04:36What you guys are doing? I just want you to move us to the side.
04:39This is way wrong.
04:41Another man, separate from the main group, reacts badly to being approached.
04:45You can't hear.
04:47All you have to do is just stay there.
04:49He tells officers he's on his lunch break.
04:51I don't know if you know me. I work, man.
04:53You work, man.
04:54The police must now regain control of the situation, and quickly, before it gets out of hand.
05:00Just chill out, boss. Chill out.
05:04This is a gangsta constitution. Yes, it is.
05:20This is a gangsta constitution. Yes, it is.
05:23The police must now be on the park.
05:26Police are tasked with keeping standards high on the island.
05:32Today, police constable Chris Douglas is on patrol with his partner, police constable Miss Carol Skerritt.
05:39today we are going to patrol the streets making Bermuda safer for all they're pounding the beat
05:47with their eyes peeled she is a firecracker I mean she is wow she is a stickler for sure
06:00Carol's scared yep they've been they see her coming from a distance oh boy you better make
06:04sure you do what you got to do or are you wrong and there is an unsheltered person there's a
06:11sign
06:11above you sir can you pay attention to that sign and remove yourself from there sir thank you sir
06:18have a good day sir officer Mascarrett is clamping down on any infractions big or small there is a
06:28site on this sidewalk oh my gracious and the moped is parked where it shouldn't be so PC
06:33Douglas going to issue a packing ticket this cycle is parked wholly on the sidewalk and at no time
06:40vehicle should be on the sidewalk and there are some ahead so I'm going to deal with those also
06:44parking violations loiterers never a dull day in the city of Hamilton that's for sure this is $75
06:52sometimes I'm kind of like more focused on the beat and there it is scared it's like hey you missed
07:00that parking infraction get it okay I've got it all right she doesn't miss a beat for sure no spending
07:08money for you hey hey on the other side of the island acting sergeant Peter Paul Taylor is partnered
07:16with Brit police constable Jonathan Ward so today we're on the armed response unit was window marked
07:22car today so quite often we see more things happen in front of us because people don't realize it's a
07:26police car officer Peter Paul has built a reputation for high standards amongst his colleagues he has a
07:34very no-nonsense approach I would describe him has very strict someone could potentially get a ticket if
07:40Peter Paul Taylor is there they will probably get a ticket and it doesn't take long for the eagle-eyed
07:46officer to spot something he doesn't like the look of so I've seen a child hanging out of a window
07:53all
07:53right from the backseat yeah so girls and have a conversation with that driver see why that child
08:01is hanging out of the window instead of in the seatbelt yep officer Peter Paul closes in on the driver
08:25of the window so any child that's any back that's under 14 must be in a seatbelt okay do you
08:37have your
08:37driver's license on you well it's it's your responsibility not the child so just make sure
08:42that your driver's license is in date and it's all right officer Peter Paul checks the woman's
08:47details on the traffic control department's database all is in order stop the driver had a
08:53conversation with the driver gave us some advice so hopefully that was just a small lapse of judgment
08:58and not something that's a deliberate act had that been a crash there's a high chance that child could
09:03have been ejected and seriously injured luckily for the driver this time officer Peter Paul lets her
09:09off with a firm word of caution okay all in date and cars and they you can pull in there
09:14and just make
09:15sure your kids properly buckled into the seat alright at the city park crackdown operation tensions remain high
09:36officers Oba and Krishna tried to defuse the situation
09:53good boy good boy good boy good boy
09:59it's just getting the word out there that you don't know when we're gonna come but we are
10:02around and we are watching and we're noticing what's going on and hopefully that helps to change the
10:08behavior every so often again we have to come in and let them know that we're here and to do
10:14the best to
10:15try to keep the atmosphere suitable for all persons families persons coming from work they want to sit down and
10:20enjoy the lunch they don't want to listen to a whole heap of cursing people fighting and stuff yes they're
10:25going to
10:25complain they're going to want to shout and scream this is normal they'll go on and on until we're
10:29done if they're sitting and they're minding the business and having their lunch that's fine but you
10:33stop behaving in a way that defends people then that's where we have to step in one man is found
10:38carrying knives but when questioned he quickly offers a plausible explanation this guy he had two small
10:46knives which are used to cut drywall and he did say that he either worker with drywall and his clothes
10:53suggest that as well so I believe in the base of that um he was able to go back to
10:58work with those
10:59knives the unique skills of canine handler officer Robin McNabb and her dog Rony are called into action
11:06so my sergeant who was speaking with some gentlemen who were on the park bench asked me to come over
11:13and
11:13search the area he thought that something may have been dropped or just get an idea what was there because
11:17they were acting strangely in his opinion so I came around and did a little area search don't put
11:23your fingers near the dog come here and Rony alerted to something in the grass officers now need to
11:31investigate the source of Rony's alert and we checked it and I believe it was some type of controlled
11:37substance once I made the alert I notified the sergeant and I'll let him deal with it because it wasn't
11:42found on a person it may be a matter of drugs found with no suspect again it's a deterrent to
11:48show people that you know that's what the dog is looking for that's what he's capable of finding
11:52it's extremely satisfying when Rony alerts to something and has a successful alert because
11:57then you know that all the training that you do it's actually working and he knows what he's supposed
12:02to do and sergeant AJ Baptiste can confirm what he suspects has been seized from my local knowledge
12:09it appears to be a small quantity of the control drug so even one gram of that would be illegal
12:14I
12:15believe it is it gets shattered shutter is the street name of one of the latest most potent forms of
12:22cannabis
12:23without a dog it's virtually impossible dogs makes everything so much easier most of the group are
12:31allowed to disperse but one man's record needs further investigation while conducting searches while the
12:39guys that was such nothing illegal is found on his person however they will confirm warrants for his arrest
12:46actually a total of six absolutely I do think that this operation was a success arrested somebody for
12:54warrants and those small but we have also constantly confiscated a control drug and gets to the upliftment of
13:03the community the upliftment to see the police in the right perspective peace has now been restored to the city
13:22Park no-nonsense officer Peter Paul and partner officer woody are still on the hunt for any rogue behavior on
13:30the roads this time with the help of some new tank it's an
13:33app that was designed by one of the police officers so we can check any vehicle at any time to
13:39check for the
13:40status of it being unlicensed uninsured make sure the driver has a correct license for the vehicle that
13:46to operate every passing number plate is a potential opportunity to crack down on wrongdoing officer
13:55woody runs a plate of a bike in front of them it's better got instinct that it might come back
14:00with
14:01something and on this occasion it did February 2026 possible warrant impaired driving 2025
14:10where's he going there are outstanding warrants tied to the bike including offences for failing to stop for police
14:20the officers must be strategic in their approach to avoid the driver giving them the slip
14:27police just turn the bike off for me he went up to the bike turned the engine off took the
14:31keys out
14:32just jump off the bike I'll move it out of the way so stand there for me with a chase
14:38through the busy
14:39streets of Hamilton now avoided it's a possible warrant for you ARB 2 offskirt 10-5 containing the situation
14:46quickly is an officer Peter Paul priority so just gonna put you in handcuffs until we can confirm it
14:53all right pass the other hand 10-36 check please so the top is a spelling ill so the reason
14:59for us to
15:00getting off the car dynamically is not saying you was going to but we just want to make sure we're
15:05not
15:05having a pursuit we didn't drag you off the bike I announced that it was police I came into your
15:10view
15:10and then once we gained our compliance it's like all right we've got to turn it down say what we
15:16just have you sit me back in my car while we wait all right thought for a minute possibly was
15:23going to
15:23be quite resistant but in the end he was okay the initial reason for the stop it's because when you
15:29came through third lane in you didn't have a stickle on your bike the officers have a duty to inform
15:34the
15:34suspect the nature of the outstanding warrants but the suspect doesn't believe they are active so we
15:41need to check at Hamilton police station if there's a sheet of paper with the warrant then you have to
15:45come to the station if there is no sheet of paper then you'll be released all right I'm acting sergeant
15:51Taylor and I'm attached to the tactical unit advance information comes through on the radio
15:58was there any update yet for that and confirms a warrant is still valid and the suspect must be
16:04arresting okay yeah they've confirmed it so yeah you under arrest them for having this for the
16:09outstanding Warren all right not obliged to say anything but if you choose to say anything you
16:13may do say maybe written down and given evidence we have to say that's part of the procedure yeah right
16:17I'll try and get what I'm gonna do is I'm gonna try and get somebody to take you down he
16:20hasn't been
16:20searched just jump out to me I was just gonna give you a quick suit hold that just to make
16:24sure that
16:24you've not got anything have you got anything on you shouldn't have sure say now if you have the
16:29man will be taken to Hamilton police station I know we just have to check that because you're
16:34going to be transporting somebody else's car the incident's been contained but for officer Peter
16:40paul and woody the day's work is far from over after the successful park operation officer Krishna and
16:57his crack team keep up the pressure on antisocial behavior the next target the harborside on front
17:07street a prime spot for tourists but also loitering groups you see how close it is to where the ferry
17:14terminal is and when the cruise ships come in and they take the ferry downtown and as soon as they
17:20get
17:20up the ferry a few steps and they got to be exposed to antisocial behavior we have a lot of
17:26guys hanging
17:27out in front street drinking playing a lot of music arguing fighting with each other I know that we've
17:31been getting a lot of reports in the police about the behavior on front street of people loitering in
17:37that area and drinking and you know once they've been drinking for a while they're making a lot of
17:41noise asking people for money and being quite aggressive about it so we are tasked with trying
17:46to stem out that problem once again officer Krishna's team use the element of surprise to catch as many
17:53offenders as possible are they there but on a small island like Bermuda word travels fast it seems the
18:09public drinkers have been tipped off and gone elsewhere this will be the area that they mainly
18:13congregating in normally is about five six guys or more at different times there's areas where these
18:20guys have some of their stuff a grill right here some trash and then this part other items along the
18:26side and clothing and stuff like that it's all a no-no for this city it's a disappointing result for
18:32the second sting but their work sends a clear message the police are on high alert for unacceptable
18:38behavior in public areas unfortunately no one's here it can create an issue in the sense that the
18:48gentlemen that we're looking for would not be aware that we're here so so then they wouldn't come
18:53by this area now look at your face officer Robin and her dog Rony check the area for any illegal
19:01drugs
19:01here no matter what mood I'm in like as soon as I let Rony out it's just you can't not
19:07smile hey buddy hey
19:08come here normally there's a whole bunch of people and there was nobody there come here here with
19:18bringing the canine I don't know if I really expected to find anything but it's more of a deterrent like
19:22look we're gonna show up all the time randomly and we have a dog that can detect drugs so if
19:27you know
19:28you're down here taking drugs he's gonna find them and you're gonna be arrested for it hey assist
19:35come here this time Rony finds nothing suspicious good job come on bud people if they see us out
19:44here taking action then they know that something's gonna something's being done so hopefully the
19:49warning gets out to these guys that we are gonna be very proactive and making sure that they aren't
19:53engaged in any anti-social behavior along this area every so often it helps to go in every send a
20:00friendly
20:00reminder that we are watching and that we are going to be present and on your back over in the
20:18south
20:18side of the island police constable Rachel Benedict and Rajiv Bailey are on patrol continuing today's
20:25island-wide crackdown on antisocial behavior all righty then when they get a call requiring an
20:34urgent response so we've been called to a residential alarm activation they've made attempts to get in
20:41touch with the key holder so we just head down there and see if there's anything that doesn't
20:45look quite right there are often false alarms on the island but here every call is treated as an emergency
20:51let's get ahead of this traffic let's get ahead of this traffic that would be what do you say this
21:01one
21:01navigator there it is to be fluid it looks vacant doesn't look like are these empty there's nothing on
21:17there that suggests I just think I'll just take a look at the back if you hear me scream it's
21:22a dog
21:24thankfully there's no crazed canine nor any signs of a burglary I can't see any doors open no everything
21:33looks to be I'm telling you this place doesn't look like it's even occupied not seeing signs of forced
21:43entry on ladders or things like that that will make us think that someone's trying to force themselves
21:48in then officer Rachel gets lucky someone in the building we'll just get an update from them as to
21:57what's going on it sounds as though an alarm went off yesterday as well good afternoon ma'am now are
22:02you
22:02today you can you come in yeah absolutely yeah it's mystery solved the assistant to the owner of
22:08the property which is being vacated so it's a fault in the system that informs the officers about the
22:14faulty alarm it sounds as though it's something that's happened a few times so it went off yesterday
22:29I'm gonna try and sort out their alarm so hopefully we don't keep getting called out such is life most
22:34of our calls are false alarms but when we do get those genuine alarms we want to make sure we
22:39get
22:39there on time right I'll be the one time that we don't come that actually someone's broken in so
22:45it's best to be safe and just make sure that that everyone's safe
23:01the scooter rider stopped by officers Woody and Peter Paul is under arrest that just leaves the
23:08tricky task of getting his bike back to the station I was hoping that he'd be able to get the
23:13matter
23:13dealt with very quickly and then for the bike would be there for him when he came out so we'll
23:17try and
23:17be accommodating wherever we can I'll go in front of you so you can guide me around cool you got
23:23up
23:23your own well that's if I can get started up yeah yeah being a good cop again gonna get a
23:30reputation
23:31now I've been a good cop hopefully good officer Woody to the rescue and the bikes back on the road
23:44after affecting the arrest when now we have a duty of care for the person and the person's property so
23:51we're taking the person's vehicle to Hamilton Police Station so it can be secured outside there it's safe
23:57and also when the person gets released the vehicle is outside the station from to take away so maybe
24:06it feels like the Bermuda Police Service are offering a bit of a door-to-door service there
24:09with their bikes but that that's probably not a bad thing as long as people don't expect it every
24:19time looks like it's got your warrants in his hand cool the man under arrest is checked in by the
24:26custody sergeant and charged with previous offenses of impaired driving and refusing to stop for the
24:32police Cavendish Road Junction Sparling Hill yeah three ones actually three okay we're trying wherever
24:40we can with the people that we're dealing with we'll try and be empathetic to their needs and
24:44concerns just as I would want that if I was being dealt with by the police you wish to speak
24:48with a
24:48lawyer yes or no no if anything else come to mind that we haven't discussed feel free to let us
24:54know
24:54again you're gonna be here for at least an hour the man will need to go to court but if
24:59he's lucky
24:59the process will be quick and he'll be released with a fine before the end of the day contrary
25:05to what some people think that we're just wanting to lock people up and keep them there we're really
25:09not it's it's much better if we can get matters dealt with and not have people held at the police
25:13station I said to him you know this is still very early and if you you know if you're cooperative
25:18and
25:19we can get through the procedure of custody quickly there's a chance they can get you into court
25:22today and it looks like that's what's happened so he can get on with his his work and it would
25:27not
25:27be in all weekend with the case in the hands of the custody team and the courts officers Woody and
25:33Peter Paul can return to their front line back on the city streets officers Chris and Miss Garrett are on
25:58foot patrol in another of Hamilton's parks to show their trademark high visibility
26:03police presence we have entered into Victoria Park named after Queen Victoria you will find sometimes drug activity being conducted
26:17here so we come in here keep and keep a look out for those kind of activities we were not
26:26patrolling in this area it would be a lot
26:28of different and we don't want that look how gayly decorated I am high base patrol that's what it's called
26:34afternoon beautiful officers Chris and Miss Garrett have worked together since he joined the police 12 years ago we just
26:42have that
26:44that camaraderie like we work well together and albeit that sometimes she could be like this hardline approach and I
26:50can't have to go in like let's just just bring it down tonight
26:53though their styles may differ there's real respect between them and today the conversation turns to a big decision about
27:02Miss Garrett's future right now I'm doing extra to try to make ends meet because I have two homes to
27:10take care of
27:11Miss Garrett comes from St Vincent an island in the Caribbean and in just a few months she will return
27:17home after 18 years in Bermuda
27:20I got to take care of Bermuda and I have to take care of St Vincent and the Grenadines because
27:24when my contract do expire and I go back home life goes on for me in St Vincent
27:30it's a contract a contract have an expiry date and when that time do come I must leave I got
27:37to leave
27:39I'm just dreading that day I know that time's gonna come soon but
27:44I don't want you to go you sure you can't stay for a little bit longer
27:50but for now Miss Garrett is a hundred percent on the mission to keep the streets of her adopted home
27:56safe
27:57I love policing
28:00I'm doing the job that I love and I'm here for a purpose I would not be deterred I'm here
28:06to do a job and I'm doing it
28:12yeah yeah yeah you take care all the best yeah next time officers race to the scene of two bike
28:19crashes
28:20I thought a car was coming to hit me so I tried to get out of the way
28:23and the cruise ship passenger ends up staying longer than it bargained for in Bermuda
28:27they found some sort of powder substance
28:29doin'
28:43you
28:43you
