00:00Where do we go from here, Mr. Bolton?
00:03Well, I think the clear outcome of this discussion is that the ceasefire is very much in jeopardy.
00:13And it's very hard to predict what's going to happen next.
00:19And that means at this point, however, when the president says the ceasefire, as far as he's concerned, is over,
00:25it means what, a return to hostilities over the next 24 hours?
00:28Is this a warning shot or perhaps a declaration that has still been back on?
00:32How do you read it?
00:35It's impossible to read what Trump means.
00:39He did say at one point that he was giving advance warning that Iran would be hit very hard tonight.
00:45I mean, that could mean going after a few selected targets.
00:49The fact is the Iranians are counting on Trump not to launch general warfare again because he's worried about the
00:58upcoming November elections.
01:03Okay, but at this point, it seems to me there are two tracks here.
01:06One is the Strait of Hormuz.
01:07He's disappointed that there are what seems to be minor strikes on the vessel, so he cannot get the oil
01:12out.
01:13And then there's a question of the nuclear weapon.
01:15And he said that still stands.
01:16They cannot have a nuclear weapon.
01:18And so ultimately, how is the president going to ensure that that happens?
01:24Well, personally, I don't think there is any way to ensure they don't get nuclear weapons until you change the
01:29regime.
01:30That has been the problem for the last 40 years as Iran has pursued nuclear weapons.
01:35I think the issue with the Gulf is more serious because while Iran was shipping its oil out, the Gulf
01:42Arabs were not.
01:44And now the president has put the sanctions back on Iran, which is significant.
01:50Oil prices have gone up 5% today in the spot market.
01:54So they're reacting very quickly to news that indeed hostilities might begin again.
02:01And the president also said some very colorful language.
02:04You said these people are scum.
02:06They're liars.
02:07They say one thing and do another.
02:08Is that surprising to anyone?
02:11No, this is typical Trump.
02:13You know, a few months ago, it's hard to keep all this straight.
02:16But he said he had achieved regime change in Iran.
02:20The previous leaders had been eliminated.
02:22And he now had this wonderful group of people that he was dealing with.
02:25So he will say anything at any time.
02:28And what he may have said in the past that he's contradicting simply doesn't bother him.
02:35But at this point, he also seems to be admitting in a way that he was tricked by them.
02:39I mean, he said it to the press very clearly.
02:41He said these people are cuckoo.
02:42They say one thing in private and then the complete opposite.
02:44So he was conned?
02:47Well, in fact, that's correct.
02:49I mean, the negotiators he has working on this, Jared Kushner and Steve Witkoff, don't know anything about Iran, don't
02:56know anything about nuclear weapons.
02:57Other than that, what could go wrong?
03:02Well, many things at this point, as you say, the oil market is reacting very heavily to it.
03:06But just to move into NATO itself, there is a joint declaration.
03:10The allies also say they commit to Article 5, a message clear from the U.S.
03:14However, the Europeans will have to take care of their security.
03:17Overall, was this a good NATO summit or just the bare minimum?
03:22Well, I think the final statement that was agreed to unanimously is a good statement.
03:27And I think it does advance a lot of objectives.
03:31I think, frankly, the outcome for Ukraine, maybe not everything that Zelensky may have wanted, but still, nonetheless, very positive.
03:40If you leave Trump's critical remarks of Spain and a few other things that he said aside, I think this
03:48turns out to be positive for NATO.
03:51It's interesting, though, that there's no mention in the final statement of the 2027 NATO summit, which had been scheduled
03:59for Tehran, the capital of Albania.
04:01Frankly, it would not be a bad thing for NATO not to have a summit next year.
04:05Why roll the dice again?
04:09What do you mean by that?
04:10Because Mark Rutger said it will happen in Albania, but didn't give a date.
04:13Why would it be good to not have a NATO summit?
04:16Well, number one, you don't need a NATO summit every year.
04:18If you look at the history of the alliance, sometimes they're once every two years, once every three years.
04:23In recent years, it's been every year, but there's no requirement for that.
04:27You know, who knows what Donald Trump's mood will be a year from now at some unspecified date.
04:31If you skipped a year or two, it wouldn't be the end of the world.
04:37And, sir, I want to ask you just a final question on this point.
04:39As you said, he lashed at the Spanish.
04:41You say they're not a team player.
04:42And he also said when it comes to Denmark, they're not taking care of Greenland.
04:46He also repeated it should be, quote, under the control of the United States.
04:49You know the man one on one.
04:51Is this a fixation or does he really mean business?
04:54By the end of this term, Greenland will be controlled by the U.S.
04:58No, he's trolling people, as they say.
05:01In the first term, I was in his office once.
05:04He was dictating a tweet, and he told the person typing the tweet, capitalize all the letters in that last
05:10sentence, which a lot of people drives them.
05:13It just is very distracting for people.
05:16And he turned and said to me, do you know why I just said that?
05:19And I said, no, why?
05:20And he said, because it drives them crazy.
05:22So why does he talk about taking Greenland?
05:25Because it drives them crazy.
05:27That's what it's about.
05:30So it's a provocation.
05:32Well, Mr. Bolton, thank you so much for joining us on Uranews, as always.
