00:00Is Senator Mitch McConnell really calling colleagues from a hospital bed? Or is there
00:04something else going on? That's the question fueling a wave of online conspiracy theories
00:09after a 9-1-1 dispatched audio revealed the 84-year-old senator was rushed to the hospital
00:14last month after being found unconscious at his D.C. home. The audio sparked wild speculation
00:20online, including claims from conservative commentator Laura Loomer that McConnell was,
00:24quote, brain dead, and that his condition was being covered up. But McConnell's office is
00:29finally pushing back. A spokesperson says the senator is continuing to recover,
00:33even working with his staff from the hospital. The senator, according to his staff, appreciates
00:38the outpouring of support. Several prominent Republicans have also said they personally
00:42spoke with McConnell this week. Senate Majority Leader John Thune, Senator John Barrasso, and
00:47former McConnell advisor Scott Jennings all say they received calls from the Kentucky Republican.
00:52Jennings said their conversation lasted nearly 20 minutes and included discussions about
00:56Iran, Ukraine, Maine politics, and Senate history. For now, though, the 84-year-old senator remains
01:01hospitalized. His office says he is improving, even as the online rumor mill remains spinning.
