00:03Electric cars achieve historic milestone in Germany.
00:07Pure electric vehicles were registered more frequently
00:09than any other powertrain type for the first time in June 2026,
00:14marking a significant shift in Germany's automotive market.
00:17According to the Federal Motor Transport Authority, KBA,
00:2184,057 battery electric vehicles, BEVs,
00:25were registered in June 2026, representing 28.4% of the market,
00:30a remarkable 78.2% increase compared to June 2025.
00:35This milestone came alongside a strong overall market performance,
00:39with 296,378 cars registered in June 2026, up 15.7% year-over-year.
00:49Electric vehicles narrowly surpassed hybrid cars,
00:52which claimed 83,315 registrations.
00:56Petrol vehicles followed with 60,796 registrations,
01:02diesel with 33,862,
01:04and plug-in hybrids trailing at 32,212.
01:09In the first half of 2026,
01:12EV registrations surged 48% to approximately 370,000 vehicles,
01:17while petrol car registrations declined by 18.2% and diesel by 8.6%.
01:24Industry experts attribute this growth to rising fuel prices
01:28and government purchase incentives.
01:30According to Sasha Berger, sales director at Amalung Car Dealership,
01:34approximately 70% of private customers now choose fully electric vehicles,
01:39comparing lifecycle costs between conventional and electric powertrains.
01:43Chinese manufacturer BYD experienced extraordinary growth,
01:48quadrupling its sales to 26,000 vehicles in the first half of 2026,
01:53making it the only Chinese brand in Germany's top 15 manufacturers.
01:57This growth raised concerns among industry experts
02:00about competition from affordable Chinese electric vehicles in lower price segments.
02:05Volkswagen maintains market leadership with 17.2% share,
02:10followed by BMW 8.8% and Skoda 8.4%.
02:15The average CO2 emissions of newly registered vehicles
02:19dropped to 92.6 grams per kilometre in June 2026,
02:24a 13.6% reduction year over year.
02:27However, significant challenges remain.
02:30Battery costs comprising approximately 40% of vehicle expenses,
02:34continue limiting affordable options,
02:37particularly in the under-20,000 euro segment.
02:40Nevertheless, the used electric vehicle market is expanding rapidly,
02:44with dealer inventories depleting due to strong demand for lease returns and used EVs.
02:49Despite these positive trends,
02:51electric vehicles represent only 4.1% of Germany's total registered car fleet
02:56as of end 2025, indicating substantial growth potential ahead.
