Mourners arrive for Khamenei's funeral ceremony in Iraqi city of Najaf
Mourners gathered in the Iraqi city of Najaf on Wednesday for a public procession for late Iranian Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei. Khamenei was killed along with several of his family members on February 28 when the United States and Israel launched strikes against Iran. A week of ceremonies for his funeral began last Friday . A funeral procession travelled through the Iranian capital Tehran on Monday (July 6), before moving to the holy city of Qom on Tuesday (July 7). On Wednesday, the procession is also expected to pass through the Iraqi city of Karbala. Khamenei will be buried in the northeastern Iranian city of Mashhad on Thursday (July 9).
