00:01The night that he exploded into this tournament. Great moment from Messi.
00:07Hello and welcome to Simply the Best, the show where we debate the pop culture subjects we're
00:12most passionate about, but you choose the winner. I'm your moderator, Rebecca Brayden.
00:16Today's topic, Messi versus Ronaldo. Who will have the better legacy?
00:20Our debaters are Jesse on Team Messi versus Matt on Team Ronaldo. Each debater will have
00:2630 seconds to make their case, followed by a 10-second rebuttal. Once that's done,
00:30we leave the decision to you. So now I welcome our debaters into the arena.
00:35We flipped a coin, which Jesse won, and he has chosen to go last. So Matt, your 30 seconds starts
00:41now. Okay, Rebecca, I'm going Ronaldo here. Is Messi a great footballer? Absolutely. But Ronaldo
00:48is the bigger icon. He has dominated Spain, England, Italy, internationally with Portugal.
00:55He's soccer's goat. He's like their Tom Brady mixed with The Rock. And people that don't even watch
01:02soccer, they know Ronaldo, the social media empire, the global fame, the hair. Need I say more?
01:10Actually, I do have one last thing to say. Sue!
01:15All right, Jesse, you get your chance. Now, your 30 seconds, go.
01:20All right, Rebecca. Well, I have to go with Messi on this one. Like you said, Matt, people who don't
01:25even watch soccer know who Ronaldo is. The difference is that people who watch and appreciate
01:30soccer choose Messi every time. Messi is the centerpiece of every team he plays on. I mean,
01:35just look at Argentina. Their whole game plan is get the ball to Messi because that works.
01:40The 39-year-old still seems to be in his prime. He's like the LeBron James of soccer.
01:45And one little thing, in terms of legacy, Messi's won the World Cup, and I believe Ronaldo has not.
01:52The rest of my case.
01:54All right, Matt. Did Jesse say anything you'd like to refute? Go. 10 seconds.
01:58Goat status, Rebecca, doesn't revolve around one tournament, okay? Overall career, overall legacy.
02:04Ronaldo's got it.
02:06All right. Jesse, you get the last word. 10 seconds now.
02:09Look, goat status revolves around a lot of things. I don't think hair has much to do with that,
02:15okay? Messi is locked in as the goat here.
02:18Well, who made the better case? Let us know in the comments which side of the debate you land on
02:22and who has the better hair. And while you're at it, let us know what other topics you'd like to
02:27see us
02:27debate. See ya.
