00:00Hi I'm Sam and July is sarcoma awareness month so sarcoma is a very rare type of cancer that
00:07predominantly affects younger people. For myself I was 22 years old and experiencing some strange
00:14little symptoms that I didn't really think much of which turned out to be a very serious
00:19aggressive cancer, rarest of the rare, called DSRCT. Since then I've had a lot of chemo,
00:26a lot of surgeries, a lot of different experimental therapies and without the support and fundraising
00:33and awareness of organizations in the community, in sarcoma especially, I wouldn't be here so
00:40it's really important to raise awareness and we've got an awesome plank-a-thon event coming up in July
00:46in Sydney and looking to raise some more funds and awareness. Thanks. My name is Angela DeWedger
00:53and in 2018 I was diagnosed with a rare type of sarcoma, it's called hemangiopericytoma. It affected
01:03my brain and I underwent surgery and radiation, six weeks of daily radiation and from that,
01:17that was eight years ago. That was a successful treatment. Sarcoma is actually a very rare type of
01:26cancer, not many people know about sarcoma so I'm trying to help raise awareness. I am fortunate that
01:36eight years on I still have the ability to, well to be here and then to raise awareness for sarcoma
01:43to help raise valuable research funds that are really desperately needed.
