00:00So, moving on now to Walford, I want to show you a quick clip of last night's episode of EastEnders,
00:04featuring Sonia and Cathy Beale. Watch very closely.
00:09Give us a tea, Cathy. And a glass of water, so I can save the person tomorrow.
00:14We can't join them. That early shift is a nightmare.
00:17Do you know, I've called on the night so many times, I think I'm turning into Dot.
00:21So, why did we show you that?
00:22Well, that seems a tribute to the late, great and legendary chain smoker, EastEnders, Darth Cotton.
00:26Now, Natalie Cassidy and Gillian Tailforth, who play Sonia and Cathy, they recreated Dot's first ever scene, which was 37
00:33years ago, last night.
00:36This is a tea, Dorothy. And a glass of water, so I can take a Paris set along.
00:43Yeah, can you hang on a second, Dot? Only we're only involved in things mechanical.
00:46I feel we've got a circular source going for it.
00:51A really lovely touch.
00:52Yeah. Was the girl wearing and carrying a cigarette when she goes into the cafe?
00:57I think she was. I mean, it's a sign of times, wasn't it?
01:00Exactly that. And you wouldn't have known it if you were watching it, but obviously knowing it, it's like a
01:03real Dot cat moment.
01:04Yeah.
01:05I really like that.
01:07Oh, no, she's carrying, she's holding something else.
01:09It's the gloves.
01:10But she still holds them, like, for a cigarette.
01:13Yeah, that's right. She does, she does.
01:15A genuine icon. Really, really missed.
01:18Well, in other news, some UK cinemas are back, too.
01:21Moving on now to Walford, I want to show you a quick clip of last night's episode of EastEnders, featuring
01:26Sonia and Cathy Beale.
01:27Watch them very closely.
01:30Give us a tea, can I?
01:32And a glass of water, so I can take a place to sit tomorrow.
01:35I think I might join them.
01:36That early shift was a nightmare.
01:38Do you know, I called on the Lord so many times, I think I'm turning into Dot.
01:41So why did we show you that?
01:43Well, that scene was a tribute to the late, great, and legendary chain smoker, EastEnders, Dove Cotton,
01:48that Natalie Cassidy and Gillian Telford, who play Sonia and Cathy,
01:51they recreated Dot's first ever scene, which was 37 years ago, last night.
01:57This is a tea, Dove, and a mouth of water, so I can take a paracet along.
02:04Yeah, can you have a set, you've got only really involved in things mechanical.
02:07But I don't feel like I'm going to tell you, there's so much going through it.
02:12A really lovely touch.
02:13Yeah.
02:14Was the dog wearing and carrying a cigarette when she goes into the cafe?
02:18I think she was, I mean, it could be happening now.
02:19That's the sign of times, wasn't it?
02:21Exactly that, and you wouldn't have known it if you were watching it,
02:23but obviously knowing it, it's like a real doffed cat moment.
02:25Yeah.
02:26Look, really like that.
02:27Oh no, she's carrying, she's holding something else.
02:30It's the gloves.
02:31But she still holds them, like, as I think of it.
02:34Yeah, that's right, she does, she does, yeah.
02:36Yeah, a genuine icon, really, really missed.
02:39Well, in other news, some UK cinemas are back too.
02:42Moving on now to Walford, I want to show you a quick clip of last night's episode of EastEnders,
02:46featuring Sonia and Cathy Beale.
02:48Watch very closely.
02:51I'll give us a tea, Cathy.
02:52And a glass of water, so I can take a person to come up.
02:55I think I might join them.
02:56That earth shift is a nightmare.
02:58You know, I call on the night so many times, I think I'm turning into dark.
03:02So why did we show you that?
03:04Well, that seems a tribute to the late, great, and legendary chainsmoker, EastEnders, Dot Cotton,
03:08that Mackley Cassidy and Gillian Tailforth, who play Sonia and Cathy,
03:11they recreated Dot's first ever scene, which was 37 years ago, last night.
03:18This is a tea, Dotty.
03:21And a master, Walter.
03:23So I can take a paracet along.
03:24The Okinawa set, you've got only relatively involved in things mechanical.
03:28I don't know if you've got a secular source going through it.
03:32A really lovely touch.
03:34Yeah.
03:35Was she still wearing and carrying a cigarette when she goes into the cafe?
03:39I think she was.
03:39That's a sign of times, wasn't it?
03:41Exactly that.
03:42And you wouldn't have known it if you were watching it,
03:44but obviously knowing it, it's like a real doffed cat moment.
03:46Yeah.
03:46Lucky stuff.
03:47Really like that.
03:48Oh, no, she's carrying, she's holding something else.
03:50It's the gloves.
03:51But she still holds them.
03:53Yeah, yeah, that's right.
03:55She does, she does, yeah.
03:57A genuine icon.
03:58Really, really missed.
03:59Well, in other news, some UK cinemas have been...
04:03Fond memories and warm tributes to the trial-polating actor Mona Hammond,
04:06who died at the age of 91.
04:09She helped lead the way for black actors with regular appearances
04:12in the pioneering sitcom Desmond's.
04:15And in later years, she was better known for playing Blossom in EastEnders.
04:18Mona also co-founded the groundbreaking theatre company Tallawa,
04:23which performed versions of plays written for white actors.
04:26Your eye, Vincent, looks back at her life and legacy.
04:31Hi, Desmond.
04:33So-so is me.
04:35Whenever Auntie Susu turned up at Desmond's barbershop,
04:39trouble wasn't far behind.
04:40But so too came all the brilliance that Mona Hammond brought to British screens,
04:45all the way from her native Jamaica.
04:47You see how you become Englishman now?
04:50Shake one's hand and peck one on the forehead.
04:54Whatever happened to her girl punk is so punting when you read?
04:58She was a very powerful actress.
05:01She was a great television and film actress,
05:02but she was a very powerful stage actress as well.
05:05Her generosity as somebody supporting young actors,
05:10and her joy as well for...
05:13I mean, she loved it when she heard that somebody was doing well.
05:15The arc of Hammond's career was extraordinary.
05:18She arrived in the UK in the 1950s to work at a firm of architects.
05:23But after evening classes,
05:24she won a place at the Royal Academy of Dramatic Art.
05:27The trail she blazed, she helped others to follow,
05:30founding a theatre company to provide more opportunities for black actors.
05:35This was a time when it was thought that black actors couldn't have lead roles in the classics,
05:41shall we say.
05:42I think Mona, as well as the other founders, pushed against that,
05:46and they decided that we will show that we are every bit as capable of playing any role.
05:51Thank you, Mona.
05:52Mona, thank you for being great shoulders for us to stand on.
05:58Well, how do I look?
05:59Later in her career, of course,
06:01Hammond became a mainstay of the EastEnders cast as Blossom Jackson.
06:06She was a matriarch on Albert Square,
06:08and she was a guiding light to so many who came after her on stage and screen.
06:17Tributes to the utterly brilliant actor, Mona Hammond, there.
06:21But we've got a couple of minutes before the end of the programme.
06:24Hollyoaks has never been afraid to tackle hard-hitting,
06:26real things that affect young people's lives.
06:29Check out Hollyoaks IRL,
06:31where we've met people whose experiences have been mirrored on screen.
06:35On Hollyoaks' socials now.
06:38I've got the ugly, isn't that?
06:40There are kinds of sort, there's a lot going on.
06:42There is a lot going on.
06:43So, in Emmerdale, Zach Dingle, the character, the sort of Emmerdale matriarch,
06:47is going to die off screen to your...
06:50Oh, Patreon, I'm sorry, not matriarch.
06:52Get it right.
06:53He's going to die off screen because, obviously,
06:55the actor, Steve Halliwell, tragically died after 29 years playing him in December.
07:01But the producers have said that they're going to...
07:03The character's in Scotland at the moment,
07:05and they're going to say that he passed away.
07:08So they will then have a funeral, which is really nice,
07:09because it's a big tribute to him, to Steve,
07:13and, obviously, the patriarch.
07:15Emmerdale's Ash.
07:15And, as we were saying, Emmerdale's Ash,
07:19when he was in here last, we gave him a present.
07:21You gave him some great...
07:22We gave that lad a present.
07:23You gave him some great wellies for Gastonbury.
07:26I wish I did some of those for Gastonbury.
07:28And, yeah, Ash, who plays Matty in Emmerdale,
07:31has actually sent us a picture.
07:33He wore them.
07:34He wore those wellies.
07:35I didn't expect him to, because they've got my silly face on them.
07:38Oh, no.
07:38And I didn't expect him to, and he did.
07:40Look at him.
07:41What a fine fella he is.
07:43You wouldn't be selling those wellies.
07:44You wouldn't be selling those wellies.
07:44You wouldn't be selling those wellies.
07:46I don't know that they would go.
07:48I think they would.
07:49Now, EastEnders, this is an interesting one.
07:52So a character who's coming back after a couple of decades.
07:54Yeah, so after two decades, the brilliant character, Chrissie Watts,
07:57played by Tracey Ann Oakman, is apparently coming back.
08:00She's filming scenes at the moment.
08:02Her last stint lasted for about 18 months.
08:04She made lots of enemies, including Cat Slater and Sharon Watts.
08:08She basically left Walford in 2005,
08:10because she was imprisoned for the murder of her husband.
08:13Did she?
08:13Did she?
08:14No, then she's out.
08:15She's out for jail.
08:16She's under the floor of the victim.
08:17I didn't even know that.
08:18Anyway, so Tracey shared the news, saying you loved her,
08:21I love playing her, and you're going to love this.
08:23So that's really exciting.
08:24Do you know what?
08:24Isn't that interesting?
08:25They're doing that a lot, bringing back these other quotes.
08:27I know.
08:28I think it's a very good idea, to be fair,
08:29because they've got such history there, I think.
08:31Now, look, tell me about Meghan Markle.
08:33She has just finished.
08:35Tributes are being paid to the actress Mona Hammond,
08:37who's been hailed as a pioneer and trailblazer
08:40after her death at 91.
08:43I come to give a big surprise visit to my sister,
08:47our host and her family,
08:48and all I get is,
08:50what you doing here?
08:51Eh?
08:53The Jamaican-British actress was a star of stage and screen for decades,
08:57best known for playing Blossom Jackson in EastEnders
09:00and Antti Susu in the sitcom Desmond's.
09:04Hammond was given an OBE in 2005 for her services to drama.
09:09Three years later,
09:09she was awarded the Women of the World Lifetime Achievement Award
09:13for her theatre career and championing black British actors.
09:21So, moving on now to Walford,
09:23I want to show you a quick clip of last night's episode of EastEnders
09:25featuring Sonia and Cathy Beale.
09:27Watch very closely.
09:30Give us a tea, can I?
09:32And a glass of water so I can save a close tea tomorrow.
09:35We might join them.
09:36That early shift was a nightmare.
09:38Do you know, I've called on the night so many times,
09:40I think I'm turning into that.
09:42So, why did we show you that?
09:43Well, that seems a tribute to the late, great,
09:45and legendary Chainsmoker EastEnders,
09:47Dot Cotton,
09:48that Natalie Cassidy and Gillian Tailforth,
09:50who play Sonia and Cathy,
09:51they recreated Dot's first ever scene,
09:53which was 37 years ago,
09:55last night.
09:57A tea, darling.
10:00And a glass of water
10:02so I can take a paracetamol.
10:04Yeah, can you have a second,
10:05but I'm really involved in things mechanical.
10:07I don't feel the barracet,
10:09the sword's going for it.
10:12A really lovely touch.
10:13Yeah.
10:14Was Dot wearing,
10:15and carrying a cigarette
10:17when she goes into the cafe?
10:18I think she was.
10:19I mean, it's been happening now.
10:20That's a sign of times, wasn't it?
10:21Exactly that.
10:22And you wouldn't have known it
10:22if you're watching it,
10:23but obviously knowing it,
10:24it's like a real Docky Cat moment.
10:25Yeah.
10:26No, really like that.
10:27Oh no, she's carrying,
10:28she's holding something else.
10:30It's the gloves.
10:31But she still holds them.
10:33Yeah, yeah, that's right.
10:35She does, she does, yeah.
10:36A genuine icon.
10:38Really, really missed.
10:39Well, in other news,
10:40some UK cinemas are back.
10:42With the return of an East End legend.
10:44Woo!
10:47That's her Dock Docks.
10:48After almost two decades away from E20,
10:50the iconic Chrissy Watts
10:51is back on the square.
10:53Oh, I love her.
11:05Pretty fair, pretty fair.
11:06Pretty fair, yes indeed.
11:08A bit spicy.
11:09It'll be quite the reunion
11:10for those two given Chrissy
11:11was the one who was banged up
11:13for bumping off a dirty den.
11:15That's in prone on the floor of the bit.
11:17Those scenes were watched.
11:18Wow, 14.3 million viewers.
11:21And Chrissy shared the news
11:22of her return saying,
11:24you loved her,
11:25I loved Lena,
11:25you're going to love this.
11:27We slipped into the other's DMs
11:28actually last time.
11:30I said, I cannot wait
11:31for you to return
11:31in a lust-filled lack of frenzy.
11:35And she's excited about it.
11:36Let's put it that way.
11:37You're not going to see
11:38where Den,
11:39they thought they killed Den,
11:40and then he grabbed Chrissy's ankle
11:43and went,
11:43you'll never get me out of the Vic.
11:44So she buried him under it.
11:48Chrissy's casting comes ahead
11:49of the Sox's fortune's birthday
11:50in February
11:51with lots of twists and turns
11:52in the pipeline,
11:53of course,
11:53can't wait for that.
11:54Now, in other news,
11:55heads were turned,
11:56lips were locked,
11:57and they're...
11:57Now, my next guest
11:58has just celebrated
11:59a year on Coronation Street.
12:00That has gone by fast.
12:02And well,
12:02there's when he had
12:03some very emotional scenes.
12:05This week, though,
12:06she's having a bit of fun
12:07because her friendship
12:08with Steve McDonald
12:09was very naughty.
12:10It's beginning to blossom.
12:13Surprise!
12:15Surprise!
12:15Where's Tim for a start?
12:16Is that plans?
12:17Is he?
12:19Where'd he count here
12:20are they in a bus for
12:21Tommy Orkbaugh?
12:22I don't even mean
12:23that the cast of the gun.
12:25I'll try him.
12:28Whoa!
12:29And if that's what you call art,
12:31you can stick it.
12:34There's a whole bus, right?
12:36Get caught.
12:37I'll take the fall.
12:38That's very noble.
12:40It seems to cause
12:56much needed comic relief
12:58for the two of you.
13:00And it just works so well.
13:01Do you know,
13:02it's funny because
13:02I was so entrenched
13:03in the dogs
13:04with Maureen,
13:05Evelyn,
13:06Anne Tyrone,
13:07lovely Alan and Fizz,
13:09Jenny and the kids.
13:10And I was a bit nervous
13:11when I found out
13:12I had a big storyline
13:13with Bill Kenbarlow.
13:14I was like,
13:15oh, god, legends.
13:18And I was nervous
13:19coming to the ballers
13:20and I have to say
13:20from day one,
13:21I'm not stopped laughing.
13:23It's been such fun.
13:25He, I mean,
13:25in real life,
13:26Sam Gregson is one
13:27of the funniest people
13:28you'd meet.
13:29Bill,
13:29I'm obsessed
13:30because I'm a Corey fan
13:31like this.
13:32I say to him,
13:33I say,
13:33tell me about rehearsals
13:34like in the 1960s.
13:36His own story?
13:37Yes.
13:37Oh, wow.
13:38You know,
13:38I'm like,
13:39what was Ian Sharples like?
13:40What was Winnie Caldwell like?
13:41I'm fascinated.
13:43And he is a walking historian.
13:45I mean, he knows.
13:45The whole history of Corey
13:47because he's been there
13:47since he's been there.
13:48We talked with you the other day
13:49and I was asking him
13:50how many wives he'd had
13:51and then he mentioned
13:52and I said,
13:52was that the one
13:52who got the electric?
13:53He's with the character
13:54I'm ready to remember him.
13:56I don't remember that.
13:57I do.
13:58I do.
13:59But the thing is,
14:00it just makes sense.
14:01The two of you
14:02have got such great chemistry
14:04and then also
14:05the chemistry between you
14:06and Steve McDonald
14:07is between Cassie and Steve,
14:10they've got to get together.
14:12Come on.
14:12Do you know I hope so?
14:13I would love it
14:15because I love working with him.
14:17Yeah.
14:17And you know when you meet
14:18someone your age
14:19who has all the same
14:21references in life
14:22and we laugh
14:23before the cameras start rolling,
14:25me and him are screaming
14:26and laughing at him
14:27and they go action
14:27and I thought,
14:28I hope this carries on through
14:30and comes out.
14:31And you know,
14:31people seem to be liking it.
14:32No,
14:33the thing is,
14:34you come in,
14:35you make an impression.
14:36Of course you do.
14:37That's what always happens
14:37with a new character
14:38and it's all,
14:39it's really quite dark
14:41as we know.
14:42It was.
14:42But then,
14:43you start,
14:43it's like a little onion,
14:44you start to get
14:45the different layers
14:46of this character
14:47and for you
14:47that must be fantastic
14:48to play the really dramatic stuff.
14:51Yeah.
14:51But also this happened fine.
14:52Well that was,
14:53as you said,
14:53it was wonderful.
14:54My first scene with Maureen Littman
14:55for 14 page two-hander
14:57which was great.
14:58Yeah.
14:58And then,
14:59you know,
14:59the story is that,
15:00you know,
15:00Cassie,
15:00she says,
15:01but she's quite horrible
15:02in the garage.
15:03Yes.
15:03With Abby and Bob.
15:04Yes, I remember.
15:05Yes, yes, yes.
15:05She's had to spy myself
15:06doing takes with them.
15:45Yes, yes, yes.
16:18Yes, yes.
16:48Yes, yes.
17:18Yes, yes.
17:48Yes, yes.
18:18Yes, yes.
18:24It's the cast of A Chorus Live!
19:08One singular sensation
19:11Every little step he takes
19:14One thrilling combination
19:18Every move that he makes
19:22One smile and suddenly
19:25Nobody else will do
19:29You know you'll never be lonely
19:33When you know who you are
19:38Sing with her sensation
19:40And in any very Sherry sheets
19:42Very magnetic imagination
