00:00My next guest, shot to fame when she was only 16 with the chart-topping girl band Atomic Kitten.
00:06Now there, achieved global stardom, of course, three UK number ones, selling over 10 million records as well.
00:11Today, Natasha is back releasing her first ever solo EP.
00:15Before we have a chart to her, let's take a look at some of those big hits.
00:19Baby of a mum, you still turn me on, you can make me whole again.
00:26It is burning, it is eternal, it is true.
00:36Light is high, but I'm holding on. I'm gonna be your number one.
00:45In the garden at the end, here we end, we live in.
00:49It's your name with nothingness, ain't me, I'm believing.
00:54That last song was Natasha's latest single, Garden of Eden, and you can't help but dance alone.
00:59It's a bit of a bop.
01:01It is a bit of a bop. It's so good to see you, looking so incredibly well.
01:05Now, you've had solo singles before, of course, but this is a bit different, isn't it, this whole project?
01:10Yes, this is my first full body of work that I've had the opportunity to release.
01:16Good for you.
01:17It's been a labour of love, slash, hmm, hate.
01:22Bit of stress, bit of stress in here, but that's alright, that's fine.
01:26Look at this, this is good.
01:29Extraction.
01:29Are you being extracted from something, or why is it called extraction, what's the idea, do you think?
01:34To get to the point of this beautiful image, I had to shed a lot and extract a lot of
01:41old versions of me that weren't serving me anymore.
01:44Right.
01:44It's a full extraction of my creative juices into the EP.
01:49Right.
01:49It's not been a linear journey to get to this.
01:54No, it's been straightforward, right?
01:55For me, extraction was perfect because it nods at the journey and some of the turmoil.
02:02And you did it in Spain, I believe.
02:03You wrote it in Spain.
02:04I did, so I was invited over to a writing camp in Spain at a charity event.
02:10So, Kyle Faulkner, who was the lead singer from The View, he was like, come to my writing camp.
02:16Right.
02:16I said, email me in the morning, and if you do, I'll be there.
02:20Right.
02:20And he did.
02:21Two weeks later, I was on a plane to Alicante.
02:24I was in a finca in the countryside.
02:26Lovely.
02:27And just having nothing to do other than write music.
02:31No kids.
02:32No distractions.
02:32No school runs, no team.
02:33No distractions.
02:34Right, got it.
02:34I just felt like I was in the right place at the right time.
02:38And then we got to Numb, which is the first song on the EP.
02:42It's quite spiritual.
02:44There's a lot of, like, references in there that are quite, you know, you've gone, you've
02:48really gone right deep, haven't you?
02:50I have.
02:50Yeah.
02:51And there's, like, spirituality, symbology.
02:56The whole EP is a journey of my life, really.
03:01We start with Numb.
03:02Numb is burying the old version of me.
03:05Okay.
03:06Then we get to fantasy.
03:07Fantasy is a love letter back to self.
03:09Right.
03:09So it's, can I find my way back to me?
03:12Who is Natasha now all these years later?
03:15Then we get to White Feather.
03:16That's, like, the heart of the EP.
03:17It's a song I wrote about my grandma, Kitty, who's passed.
03:21But I get these signs.
03:24Like, when I'm in a really tough moment or part of life, I find these white feathers.
03:29So White Feather is about my nan.
03:31Oh, that makes sense.
03:32Yeah, and the Garden of Eden is the garden where everybody is welcome.
03:37That's where we find freedom.
03:39No, no genders, no race, no sexuality, like, none of that.
03:43It's just the same place.
03:45Everyone the same.
03:45All the same, which is a great message.
03:47It really is.
03:47I love the fact that we saw the baby for your daughter is in one of the videos.
03:52And your mama as well.
03:53Yeah, so in White Feather, my mom was playing her mother, my nana, Kitty.
03:57Ella was playing the younger me.
03:59My dad handed Ella the symbolic feather.
04:03And my husband was in the pub out of the pint.
04:05Beautiful.
04:06He was such a natural.
04:09And they've been on this journey with me.
04:12And they know what it's taken to get here.
04:14So for them to be there that day and just support me, it was quite emotional.
04:18But we also had a laugh as well.
04:20Well, that's the thing.
04:21And that's exactly what it's been like all of those years with Talking Kitten.
04:24You know, there was highs, there was lows.
04:26But looking back, I guess...
04:27Or when we first met.
04:28Yeah, and when we first met.
04:30And when we first met.
04:32Yes, that was very good.
04:33I like that a lot.
04:34But it was a great time.
04:36It was amazing.
04:37You were so young, though.
04:38Yeah.
04:3916.
04:40Oh, gosh.
04:40My mom and dad signed my record deal for me.
04:42But I moved to London.
04:44I was living the life of my dreams.
04:48Yeah.
04:49And I got to do everything with these incredible girls.
04:52We had an amazing time.
04:53Of course you did.
04:54It's great that you look back on that with huge affection.
04:57Absolutely.
04:57And actually, if it hadn't been for all those years, you wouldn't be sitting here now being
05:00able to do this, to do Extraction, to do the EP.
05:04So it was all kind of leading up to this, wasn't it?
05:06I've got a nice bank of classics in my repertoire to do my kids.
05:23What is it?
05:23This is 23, the baby's two.
05:26So I've raised two men.
05:27Two men out living their lives in the world.
05:29Three at home.
05:30They're super supportive.
05:31They're like my biggest fans, but also my biggest critics.
05:35Yes.
05:36So whenever I write a song, I sit them down and I say, right, okay, give me your honest
05:39feedback.
05:40And they will?
05:40And they do.
05:41That's good.
05:41They'll say, that's too long.
05:43That doesn't make sense.
05:44We don't like that bit.
05:46We love this.
05:48And I take it all on board.
05:50Of course you do.
05:51Of course you do.
05:52Natasha, good luck with everything.
05:54It's out right now, isn't it?
05:55It is.
05:55Extraction is out today.
05:57Today.
05:58Yes.
05:58Congratulations.
05:59That's fantastic.
06:00So good to see you.
06:01You too.
06:02Just keep doing what you do.
06:03I will do.
06:04Superwoman.
06:04Five kids.
06:05Amazing.
06:06I know two are away, as you said.
06:07Two are off on their own road.
06:09Yeah.
06:09But just great.
06:11Thank you for having me.
06:12Right now, after the break, helping you get a bargain this morning.
06:15Our Mark has his top picks from the summer sales.
06:18He has been rummaging, including how to recreate Kate's Wimbledon look without the big royal
06:23price tag.
06:24And he's going to be getting some help from a mystery model.
06:27Find out who that might be after the break.
06:32Everybody move to the music room.
06:37Still in the...
