00:00Across Africa, incredible homes are raising the bar of modern design.
00:04This series gives you a front row seat to unapologetically stylish spaces,
00:10the kind you can't help but save, screenshot and dream about.
00:17Holidays are meant to be fun, right? Today Palesa Tembe steps inside a beautifully designed home
00:22where you can truly relax, put your feet up and enjoy a playful take on style.
00:28When it comes to the client brief, were they very specific and particular as to what they were
00:32looking for or did they give you free reign? The only briefing that I got from the client
00:38and he came to me with the suggestion is that we should make use of his photographs. Photographs
00:46I call actually artwork. It is unbelievable artwork that we've got against the wall.
00:52He's a keen photographer and we've used his photographs to suit the interior of the house
01:01and each room. What was your first step when it came to the design approach with this project?
01:06Comfort Pali, comfort where one can feel at home. You taking off your shoes. I love different textures.
01:16As you can see, what I've done here is mix the different textures by means of velvets and cottons
01:25and linen and viscose in shades of grey and in shades of pink. That was the starting point.
01:33And also that tends to see and pick what is going to happen in the other rooms.
01:41Fun throw pillows, cute ottomans mixed in with the more formal pieces. It just works.
01:48What was your approach with the dining room? The most important room in house is the dining room
01:55because you spend so much time around the table. Gorgeous comfy chairs in soft shades of grey.
02:02Made for long conversations over fabulous food, second glasses and losing track of time.
02:08Pali, in the dining room, we've got this magnificent custom-made French oak dining table.
02:16And you can sit 10 people and you can have a look at the legs at the base of the
02:23table,
02:23how magnificent this table is. And it's such a conversation piece, the dining room,
02:29where friends, family are getting together and enjoying life and enjoying dinner.
02:35Creating memories around meals and that's what it's all about. But I cannot ignore the beautiful
02:42chandelier, absolutely stunning. Yes, exactly. The chandelier is hand-picked by myself and the clients.
02:51And it is also a conversation piece. It adds a bit of drama. One needs to have drama in the
02:58room.
02:58And I think the chandelier is doing itself excellent in this regard. And with being able to celebrate
03:05the homeowner's photography with their pictures up on the walls, it kind of feels like an open family
03:10album. Exactly. That's very true. The client's photography turns this house into a kind of personal
03:18gallery. These aren't just pictures, they're memories. Moments frozen in time and each wall tells a story.
03:26They add warmth, character and a sense of personality to the space.
03:33Oh, yes. Now, Christiane, this is a room I see myself kicking back and relaxing in.
03:39I'm glad you like it, Pali. I think it is gorgeous.
03:44This is the unofficial headquarters of Fun, the indoor-outdoor entertainment area.
03:50Casual dinner on one side, braai on the other. Pool action in full view. If there's a party happening
03:57in this house, this is where it's at. Plus, it's right next to the kitchen, so easy access to those
04:06snacks and drinks. And if you think the downstairs is colorful, upstairs turns the dial right up.
04:17Christiane, moving upstairs, I'm already sensing a different vibe when it comes to the house. What
04:22was your design approach up here? The best is upstairs. Color-wise, use color in abundance.
04:30And the wallpaper pops into this room. It speaks for itself. It's one of my special bedrooms.
04:41Every bedroom has its own personality, wrapped in beautiful wallpaper and touch-me textures that
04:47feel indulgent and inviting. If sleep had a dress code, this would be it.
04:54Designed to enjoyed. This is a luxury that doesn't ask you to tiptoe around.
04:59Isn't this what all holidays should feel like?
05:08But, if you're feeding yourself a lot, the roots of an eye, the roots of this is a good thing.
