00:00:08The Lone Ranger
00:00:18A fiery horse with the speed of light, a cloud of dust, and a hearty hi-yo silver.
00:00:24The Lone Ranger
00:00:30This is a story of one of the most mysterious characters to appear in the early days of the West.
00:00:36He was a fabulous individual, a man whose presence brought fear to the lawless
00:00:41and hope to those who wanted to make this frontier land their home.
00:00:44He was known as the Lone Ranger.
00:00:48Before his coming, this new land of the West was a wild, unruly territory
00:00:53into which brave American pioneers moved in covered wagons, on horseback, and afoot.
00:01:01Theirs was a rugged existence, for they not only had to settle and build, they had to fight.
00:01:07Here, beyond the reach of law and order, might was right.
00:01:11The best shot was the best man.
00:01:13Born of necessity in this chaotic period of westward expansion,
00:01:17an organization was developed to combat the evil forces of the times.
00:01:22An organization called the Texas Rangers.
00:01:26Ever on the job of maintaining law and order,
00:01:29six Texas Rangers ride alertly across a western landscape.
00:01:33All are courageous, straight-shooting men.
00:01:35At their head is a stranger, a half-breed scout,
00:01:39who one day earlier had appeared at a ranger encampment,
00:01:42suffering from a severe wound.
00:01:46There you are, Collins.
00:01:48Nothing to worry about now.
00:01:50Thanks, Captain.
00:01:51I should worry about a wound.
00:01:52I'm lucky to be alive.
00:01:54You're right.
00:01:55Very few people are after those outlaws have struck.
00:01:59So they killed everybody at the trading post?
00:02:01Everyone.
00:02:02Mr. Simpson, his wife,
00:02:05the young Indian helper,
00:02:06even old Pete McHenry.
00:02:08That's too bad.
00:02:10How about the outlaws?
00:02:11Any of them get shot?
00:02:13Four of them were in pretty bad shape.
00:02:14They had to be tied to their horses to ride away.
00:02:17I got two of them myself.
00:02:19Too bad you couldn't have hit more of them.
00:02:21Which way did they go?
00:02:22They rode up north, into the Badlands.
00:02:25That's a pretty rough country.
00:02:27But with wounded men in tow, they can't travel very fast.
00:02:31We got a chance to catch them.
00:02:32But they have a five-hour start.
00:02:34Even if you overtook them, they outnumber you.
00:02:37Mister, the Rangers are used to long odds.
00:02:39How about you?
00:02:40You could use your help in locating their trail
00:02:42if you feel strong enough to ride.
00:02:44I don't need two arms to guide a horse.
00:02:46Besides, I have a score to even up, too.
00:02:50I'll go alone.
00:02:51Good man.
00:02:52Boys, pack five days' rations.
00:02:54Got ten minutes to be in the saddle.
00:02:55Right.
00:02:56Bill, send Captain Reed to me.
00:02:57He's leading your detachment.
00:02:59Yes, sir.
00:03:01So came the half-breed Collins,
00:03:03who rides with the detachment of Rangers
00:03:05after the most ruthless outlaw band in the West,
00:03:08the notorious Cavendish gang.
00:03:17It's their trail, Reed.
00:03:19Yeah.
00:03:21It indicates they're riding slowly as we figured.
00:03:24Yes, it does.
00:03:27Let's go, boys.
00:03:59We've gained on them.
00:04:01These tracks can't be more than three hours old.
00:04:04They're heading off into that canyon.
00:04:06Yeah, look that way.
00:04:09Have you been in this facility before?
00:04:11A couple of times.
00:04:13I think it might be a good idea for us to check that canyon from the rim first.
00:04:18I'll go ahead and scout the place.
00:04:20One man would be a lot less noticeable than all of us going.
00:04:23All right.
00:04:24We'll wait here and give the horses a rest.
00:04:26Just mark, man.
00:05:04Hold it, mister.
00:05:06Reach.
00:05:07Hello, Whitey.
00:05:09Oh, it's you.
00:05:11The new man, huh?
00:05:13Yeah, it's me.
00:05:14How's the plan going?
00:05:16All right.
00:05:17The range is the back of the canyon entrance.
00:05:19You think they'll keep on coming?
00:05:21Sure, why not?
00:05:23They're pretty smart Umbers, you know.
00:05:24Yeah.
00:05:25We've tried to get them before.
00:05:26Didn't pan out.
00:05:27I wasn't with you then.
00:05:29Where's Cavendish?
00:05:30He's up there a ways.
00:05:32Leave your horse here.
00:05:33All right.
00:05:44I knew they'd fall from my little trap, Collins.
00:05:50That bullet I put in your arm really convinced them.
00:05:53Yeah, Cavendish.
00:05:54It sure did.
00:05:55When I get through around here, it's going to be a long time before any ranger outfit patrols in this
00:06:00section of the country.
00:06:01We're going to make this something they won't forget.
00:06:03Is the ambush all set?
00:06:05Take a gander over there.
00:06:26You know, my men could slaughter a whole army if I'm up here.
00:06:31It looks good to me.
00:06:34Now, we're going to hold our fire until a lawman right in directly below us.
00:06:39Jerry, you tell the boys I'll shoot first.
00:06:41That'll be the signal to open up on the rangers.
00:06:43Right.
00:06:44And, Jerry, when a man goes down, I won't let it be kept pouring into him until he looks like
00:06:48a seal.
00:06:48Have you got that straight?
00:06:49You back.
00:06:50Come on, Blakey.
00:06:50All right.
00:06:51Collins, you're doing a good job for a new man.
00:06:54Thanks, Steve.
00:06:55Now get back there and bring on the Texas Rangers.
00:06:57Yeah.
00:06:58Sure.
00:07:14See anything?
00:07:15Yes, but not on the rim.
00:07:19The Cavendish outfit is just leaving the far side of the canyon, about four miles off.
00:07:23Are you sure?
00:07:24I saw their dust.
00:07:26Good.
00:07:27Here we go, ma'am.
00:07:28Come on.
00:07:29Come on.
00:08:26Must have taken a wrong turn
00:08:28Look up there, it's a head wall
00:08:30No passage through here
00:08:33Hey, where's Collins?
00:08:35He's right behind us a while ago, I saw him
00:08:37Look!
00:08:38It's an ambush, men
00:08:39Shut up and find cover, quick!
00:09:18I've got a chance that half-breed played her Collins
00:09:49Okay, man, hold it!
00:09:51Hold it!
00:10:00Hey, Collins!
00:10:02Yes, Chief?
00:10:04Check those men down there
00:10:06Make sure they're dead
00:10:07I think, because that's what we're talking about
00:11:03You got them all.
00:11:04Good.
00:11:05Going back to your horse.
00:11:07We'll wait for you up here.
00:11:26I thought he was one of us, Chief.
00:11:27He was.
00:11:29Any man who would betray those rangers might be just as quick to turn on us, I figured.
00:11:33And no one does that.
00:11:35It's going to be a nice little reminder for anybody who tries to stop me from now on.
00:11:39Now let's get out of here.
00:11:40I've got a lot of work to do in Colby.
00:12:00Many hours after the Cavendish gang has left the ambush scene,
00:12:03a lone figure moves painfully over the rock-strewn ground.
00:12:08A small spring gurgling in a shady cave is his destination.
00:12:12He alone of the six Texas rangers still lives.
00:12:15His one aim is to reach water and shade.
00:12:19Desperately, he fights off the weakness from loss of blood, which threatens to halt his progress.
00:12:24It is deathly hot.
00:12:26The sun beats down unmercifully.
00:12:33Ahead is that cooling, life-giving water.
00:12:37If his strength can only last.
00:12:41Foot by foot, sheer torture, he pulls himself along.
00:12:51There, out of the hot glare of the sun.
00:12:54Only a short distance farther.
00:13:03There's the spring.
00:13:04Now his bandana.
00:13:10There.
00:13:12Cold water never felt better.
00:13:14Never seemed sweeter than now.
00:13:17A hundred yards away, Colin stirs,
00:13:19unaware of the existence of the spring and the ranger who lies beside him.
00:13:24He, too, miraculously has escaped a mortal wound from a Cavendish bullet.
00:13:30And he, too, like the ranger,
00:13:32knows that death lurks in the hot rays of the sun.
00:13:36He must seek shelter somewhere, quickly,
00:13:39within the confines of the canyon.
00:13:45Weakly, he stumbles off to find shade,
00:13:47to nurse his wounds.
00:13:50Then, as if timed by fate,
00:13:52a third figure, an Indian,
00:13:54enters the hot canyon.
00:13:57Surprised, he sees the results of the Cavendish gang's handiwork.
00:14:01Texas Rangers,
00:14:03sprawled in attitudes of violent dead.
00:14:07These were men to whom heroic deeds were a part of each day's work.
00:14:13And now their work was done.
00:14:18Then, by chance,
00:14:19the native spies the figure lying beside the distant pool.
00:14:22He moves forward.
00:14:35But I still
00:14:36mean not hurt you.
00:14:47Why, you,
00:14:48you, Kimo Sabi.
00:14:50Kimo Sabi?
00:14:53That sounds familiar.
00:14:55That's right, Kimo Sabi.
00:14:57You trusty scout.
00:14:59Trusty scout?
00:15:01Yes, ranger.
00:15:03Long time back,
00:15:04when we both young.
00:15:06Me remember time Indian camp burned.
00:15:09Renegade Indians raid settlement
00:15:11when men of tribe away.
00:15:12Kill my mother,
00:15:13my sisters.
00:15:14They leave me for dead.
00:15:16You found me.
00:15:17Nurse me back to hell.
00:15:19Save me from dying.
00:15:20When me well,
00:15:22you give me horse to go find my father.
00:15:24Me take horse only when you accept gift.
00:15:27My ring.
00:15:28It make good luck.
00:15:29Me call you Kimo Sabi.
00:15:32It mean trusty scout.
00:15:34Me never forget you.
00:15:36You remember now?
00:15:38Yes.
00:15:39You,
00:15:41you're Tonto.
00:15:42That's right.
00:15:44Me,
00:15:44Tonto.
00:15:45Now,
00:15:46me take care of you.
00:15:52Immediately,
00:15:53the Indian,
00:15:53Tonto,
00:15:54unsaddles his horse
00:15:55and sets up a camp
00:15:56at the entrance of the cave
00:15:57near the pool
00:15:57and the injured man.
00:16:00The ranger's wounds
00:16:01are cleansed
00:16:02and expertly dressed
00:16:03by the Indian
00:16:04who calls upon
00:16:05all the lore he knows
00:16:06to ease his white friend's suffering.
00:16:09Several days
00:16:10of patient vigil,
00:16:11tender care
00:16:12and careful feeding
00:16:13bring results.
00:16:15The ranger
00:16:16gradually regains
00:16:17his strength.
00:16:17He is going to live.
00:16:20Tonto,
00:16:22I guess I drifted off again.
00:16:25How long have I been here now?
00:16:27Three days.
00:16:27How do you feel?
00:16:29Still a little weak.
00:16:31The other rangers,
00:16:32Tonto,
00:16:33all dead.
00:16:35Hmm.
00:16:36One of them,
00:16:37Captain Reed,
00:16:38was my brother.
00:16:40Too bad.
00:16:41Rangers all fine men.
00:16:44We didn't have a chance,
00:16:45Tonto.
00:16:46It was a perfect ambush
00:16:48and double cross.
00:16:50How did you happen
00:16:51to find me?
00:16:53Me hunt here
00:16:54in canyon often.
00:16:55Ride in here
00:16:56on scout
00:16:56over yonder.
00:16:57Find rangers
00:16:58and dead horse.
00:17:00I see.
00:17:01While you sleep,
00:17:02me bury other rangers
00:17:03over there.
00:17:05Make grave for men.
00:17:07Bring belongings here.
00:17:10That was good of you,
00:17:12Tonto.
00:17:12Them brave men.
00:17:14Yes,
00:17:15they were brave.
00:17:16And they won't be forgotten.
00:17:19I've spent a lot of time thinking.
00:17:22For every one of those men,
00:17:23I'm going to bring
00:17:24a hundred lawbreakers
00:17:25to justice.
00:17:27I'll make that Cavendish gang
00:17:28and every criminal
00:17:29that I can find
00:17:30for that matter
00:17:32regret the day
00:17:32those rangers
00:17:33were killed.
00:17:35Tonto,
00:17:35from this moment on,
00:17:36I'm going to devote
00:17:37my life to establishing
00:17:39law and order
00:17:39in this new frontier
00:17:41to make the West
00:17:43a decent place
00:17:44to live.
00:17:45That good?
00:17:46But when Cavendish gang
00:17:48know you escape ambush,
00:17:49you mark man.
00:17:51They hunt you down,
00:17:52many against one.
00:17:54No one is going to know
00:17:55I'm alive.
00:17:56I'm supposed to be dead
00:17:58and I'm going to stay
00:17:58that way.
00:18:00I'll hide my identity
00:18:02somehow.
00:18:03I'll wear a disguise
00:18:05of some sort.
00:18:06You mean like mask?
00:18:08That's it, Tonto.
00:18:10From now on,
00:18:10I'll wear a mask.
00:18:14Let's see.
00:18:15There ought to be
00:18:16some material here
00:18:17I can use.
00:18:19Here.
00:18:21This.
00:18:23My brother's vest.
00:18:25It's along to one
00:18:26of the bravest of them all.
00:18:28Me help him, Osabi.
00:18:29You rest now.
00:18:31All right, Tonto.
00:18:32Thanks.
00:18:40There.
00:18:41Face wounds
00:18:42all healed now.
00:18:43Let me have the mask.

00:18:52Good job, Tonto.
00:18:56Here hat.

00:19:05to kill bad men.
00:19:06I'm not going
00:19:07to do any killing.
00:19:08You will not
00:19:09defend yourself?
00:19:10Oh, I'll shoot
00:19:11if I have to.
00:19:12But I'll shoot
00:19:13to wound,
00:19:14not to kill.
00:19:15A man must die.
00:19:17It's up to the law
00:19:17to decide that.
00:19:19Not the person
00:19:20behind a six-shooter.
00:19:21That's right,
00:19:22Kimo Sabe.
00:19:23Well, there's just
00:19:24one more thing
00:19:24to be done.
00:19:25What's that?
00:19:27Dig another grave.
00:19:29out there.
00:19:31Who that's for?
00:19:33That'll be my grave.
00:19:45There.
00:19:46Just like others.
00:19:48That's good.
00:19:50Only you, Tonto,
00:19:51know I'm alive.
00:19:52To the world,
00:19:53I'll be buried here
00:19:54beside my brother
00:19:56and my friends
00:19:58forever.
00:19:59You all alone now.

00:20:18Me lone like you.
00:20:20Me want law here, too.
00:20:22For all.
00:20:23All right, Tonto.
00:20:25You'll be a lot of help.
00:20:27We'll ride together.
00:20:28Me glad, Kimo Sabe.
00:20:30Me fight good for you.
00:20:32Take cover, Tonto.
00:20:37That's Collins,
00:20:38the man that led us
00:20:39into ambush.
00:20:40Why him shoot?
00:20:41Undoubtedly,
00:20:41he's after your horse.
00:20:43Collins must have been
00:20:44deserted by the outlaws.
00:20:46He's probably been
00:20:47making his way
00:20:47to that vantage point
00:20:48for some time now.
00:20:50Why him go there,
00:20:51Kimo Sabe?
00:20:51He knows the only way
00:20:52to get Scout
00:20:52is to kill us.
00:20:54He is well protected
00:20:55up there.
00:20:56What do we do now?
00:20:57I'm going to keep him
00:20:58back undercover
00:20:59while you make a run
00:21:00for Scout.
00:21:03Take Scout
00:21:03into the cave.
00:21:04Collins won't be able
00:21:05to see you from there.

00:21:07I'll follow Tonto
00:21:08as soon as you're safe.

00:21:12Run.
00:21:13Run.
00:21:13Run.
00:21:13Run.
00:21:37Did you hit him?
00:21:38No, Tonto.
00:21:39I didn't try.
00:21:40We're going to capture
00:21:41him alive.
00:21:42That hard?
00:21:43Him in good spot?
00:21:44Yes, but I have an idea
00:21:45how we can do it.
00:21:47You start up the cliff
00:21:48on that side.
00:21:49First, I have Scout.
00:21:51I'll try to draw his fire
00:21:52from the other side
00:21:52of the rocks.
00:21:56I'm out of detail.
00:21:57I've been going to through

00:22:08This plan will make a Inn

00:26:42man in the Indian camp beside the wounded horse, tending his battle hurts and caring
00:26:47for him as best they know how. Now, human hands have done all they can to help nature
00:26:53in healing the animal's wounds. Can the wild stallion rise? Gently, the masked man coaxes
00:26:59the horse. Easy. Easy, big fellow. Come on. On your feet. Come on, boy. Come on, boy.
00:27:09Easy, big fellow. Easy.
00:27:26Me get Bridal and Lariat. Him run away. No. Wait, Tonto.
00:27:29No. I'd like that horse more than anything in the world. But if he wants to go, he should
00:27:42be free. Him a beauty. Like mountain with snow. Silver white. Silver.
00:27:59That would be a name for him. Here, Silver. Come back, big fellow. Come on, Silver.
00:28:16Me get Bridal now. Him come back. No. He wouldn't take a bit. I'll use a heck of more for
00:28:23the time
00:28:23being. It won't be as strange to his head as a bridle. There. There, Silver. You only knew
00:28:46how we need you. Oh. Oh, boy. Oh. Oh. Oh, big fellow. Ready? We're going to do a lot
00:29:00of riding together. We're going to be pals, aren't we, Silver? A few days later, after the
00:29:07horse has recovered his strength, the Lone Ranger tightens the saddle on the back of the
00:29:11white stallion. Quickly, the masked man mounts. And for the first time in his life, Silver
00:29:16bears weight upon his back. Soon, under expert and gentle guidance, a horse quiets and responds
00:29:27quickly to the Lone Ranger's lead. Later, the hackamore is exchanged for a bridle in bed. Here
00:29:37is no conflict between animal and master. Here, instead, is a partnership between horse
00:29:42and rider. The Lone Ranger and Silver accept each other as equals.
00:29:55He's a beauty, Tonto. Dream horse if I ever rode one. Him and Scout, good friends.
00:30:05Yes. They'll do a lot of riding, side by side.
00:30:09Huh. Me got everything packed. Here's saddlebags. Here, blanket. We ride after Cavendish gang
00:30:20now? Yes, Tonto. They were headed toward Colby. Then, too, there's an old timer there I want
00:30:27to see by the name of Jim Blaine. All right, let's go.
00:30:53There it is, Tonto. Jim Blaine's place. Looks like him got company. We'll wait until the caller
00:30:59leaves before we drop in. It was nice seeing you, Judge. Be seeing you next week, Jim.
00:31:10Look, the side of the house. Come on.
00:31:31Got him, Chief. Good. But he winked me. Is he out? Cold. He won't be seeing life for
00:31:38hours. Trade guns. Say, you're bleeding bad. Yeah, I must have hit an artery. You get on
00:31:45the road, Pronto, and spread the news. The shoot men get me a doc. I'll meet you at the
00:31:49Glen. All right. Someone's coming. We got to clear out of here fast.
00:32:17Him dead yonder, Chimosabi. How's Jim? He's had a hard knock. Me thought maybe murders
00:32:25killed Jim, too. They could have, Tonto. For some reason, they wanted Jim to be found
00:32:31here alive. He's coming, too. Help me carry him to the porch.
00:32:39So that's why I'm after Cavendish, Jim. And the reason for the mask. My real identity
00:32:45is to be kept a secret. Known only to the three of us. Well, I'll be hanged. You sure
00:32:52got a job cut out for yourself, Reed. I mean, Lone Ranger. I'll help in any way I can. I
00:32:58was
00:32:58hoping you'd join us, Jim, and live up in our old silver mine. Oh, you're mighty kind to an
00:33:04old ex-ranger who used to nurse me, your boy. Sure would like to. Never did like living
00:33:10here trying to farm, only... Only what? Well, I can't run out now with the owner of the bank.
00:33:17Poor old Judge Knoxline dead back there. Folks might think that I did it. Why, they might
00:33:23start blaming me for all the rest of the killings that's going on in town.
00:33:26More murders, Jim? Yes, lots of them. First, it was Glenn Peters. He owns the newspaper. Then
00:33:35Biff Anderson, postmaster and telegraph man combined. Then Max Strauss, the hotel man. And
00:33:42a couple others, too. Why, it seems everybody important in Colby's getting shot. The sheriff's
00:33:48plum going crazy. Did you recognize the man who killed the judge?
00:33:53I couldn't mistake him. It was Butch Cavendish. Now who'd you say you're after? Cavendish? He
00:34:01must be doing these killings in Colby for a very special reason. Yeah, but why? Most likely
00:34:08he wanted the murders to look like a local affair. I'm certain Jim will upset his plans if
00:34:14you're not around to accept the blame for the judge's death. That old silver mine of ours
00:34:19will be a perfect hideout for you. Yes, it would. By Cranky, I guess you're right. It
00:34:27would be best if I became scarce around here for a bit. I'll go along with you. That's
00:34:33fine. How's his knee, Tonto? Leg better now. Good. Help me put Jim on Silver's back.
00:34:44A few hours later, after a tedious ride over winding trails and unknown paths, the lone
00:34:50ranger, Jim, and Tonto approach the site of the secret silver mine. This is it, Tonto.
00:35:02Where am I? Don't say it, do you, Jim? Fool's you just like everybody else. Come on, I'll show
00:35:08you. Here we are, Tonto. It must have been ten years ago that my brother, old Jim here,
00:35:24and I discovered the mine and built this shack. Nine years ago this spring. Still no see mine.
00:35:31Over here, Tonto. It's under the bunk. There. Yep, one of the richest veins of silver ever
00:35:42found in these here parts. I never thought I'd care about digging up the ore. That is until
00:35:48now. Watch it there, too. That's the spring we were cleaning out when we found the vein. We
00:36:00Jim, you and I can fix up this place while Tyler goes into town for the sheriff. His name
00:36:05is Taylor, isn't it? Yep, old two guns. Still on the job. All right, Chimozabi. When you
00:36:11find the sheriff, tell him you know where Jim Blaine is. He'll come with you. That's good.
00:36:16Me go now. The shack seems to be in pretty good shape. I'll be as snug as a bug. All
00:36:25I want
00:36:25out of this place is enough silver for some immediate needs. Other than that, all you
00:36:30can dig is yours. Oh, now I couldn't. You're entitled to it, Jim. You'll have to do all the
00:36:36work. You know, I could refine a little ore right here. That's just what I want you to
00:36:43do, Jim. Then in the future, whenever Tonto and I come back here, we can get the pure metal
00:36:49for money and bullets. Bullets? Yes. I want some of the ore cast into silver bullets.
00:36:57Fundration, what's the matter with red bullets? They'll kill just as well as... You forget,
00:37:00I told you I vowed never to shoot the kill. Silver bullets will serve as sort of a symbol.
00:37:07Tonto suggested the idea. Symbol? Of what? A symbol which means justice by law. I want it
00:37:16to become known to all who see the silver bullets. But I live and fight only to see the eventual
00:37:22defeat and the proper punishment by law of every criminal in the West.
00:37:29By criminy, I think you've got something there. And I'll mold you all the silver bullets you
00:37:36want, Ranger. But from what I know about this here country, there'll be an awful lot of silver
00:37:43shot up before you're through. I hope not, Jim. We have a lot of metal here for that purpose.
00:37:49If we need it.
00:37:57Now, those dirty killers. I wish I knew where to look for them first.
00:38:01Now, Pete, you look up in that old creek section for Jim.
00:38:06Clem, go get Creel and fetch the Doc's body and bring it back into town.
00:38:10This is a fine time for Doc Drummond to be missing. Jim Blaine disappeared. I never suspected
00:38:17he'd ever have anything to do with these killings.
00:38:18Sheriff.
00:38:20Well, go away, Indian. Can't you see I'm busy? Now, Bill Keefe says that Jim's horse is still
00:38:25at his farm.
00:38:26Oh, he must have gone off on foot. Now, he can't be very...
00:38:28Sheriff.
00:38:29Me know where Jim Blaine is.
00:38:31Look, Indian, will you go away, please? Can't you see I'm busy with these men?
00:38:37What'd you say?
00:38:38Me know where Jim Blaine is.
00:38:40Jim want to see you.
00:38:41Well, you know where he is. Why didn't you say so? Where is he?
00:38:44I mean, not tell.
00:38:46What do you mean by that? You just said you knew.
00:38:48You come. Me take you to Jim.
00:38:50Now, wait a minute. How do I know that you know where Jim is?
00:38:53You don't know, but you follow me. Jim wants to talk to you about Judge Knox killing.
00:38:59Bet he does, all right.
00:39:01Yeah, and I want to talk to him, too.
00:39:03Hank, you and I are sad luck. We're going to follow this engine.
00:39:05No one come. Only you.
00:39:08Now, look. You don't think I'd be silly enough to go with you alone, do you?
00:39:12Me think so. You brave lawmen want to solve mysteries.
00:39:16If you're right.
00:39:18Well, if he's right, eh?
00:39:20Hey, how long ride is it?
00:39:22Not far for a tough sheriff. Maybe two hours away.
00:39:27All right, engine. You lead the way.
00:39:29Don't forget. Any funny business?
00:39:32Hank, keep an eye on things while I come back.
00:39:34All right, two guns.
00:39:46That's the man, stranger.
00:39:47It's on the gun, Sheriff. I can explain.
00:39:50Howdy, two guns!
00:39:51Jim, what the same hill's going on here?
00:39:54Who are these people?
00:39:55Who's this masked man?
00:39:56What about Judge Knox shooting?
00:39:59Somebody's got a heap of explaining to do.
00:40:03And after the killers knocked me out and changed guns with me,
00:40:06my friend and his engine file brought me here.
00:40:12It's a very interesting story, Jim.
00:40:15What's more interesting, maybe, is that you've convinced me
00:40:18the masked man here is fighting on the right side of the law.
00:40:20I'm glad you're convinced, Sheriff.
00:40:22So Butch Cavendish is the judge's murderer, huh?
00:40:25Yep.
00:40:26And right now, he's somewhere in this here vicinity,
00:40:29wounded, with my bullet in it.
00:40:31Wounded, huh?
00:40:32Say, maybe that explains something.
00:40:35Well, Doc Drummond's the only doc in these parts,
00:40:37and he's missing.
00:40:38Ten to one, he's been fetched to fix up Cavendish.
00:40:40Yeah, problem now is, where's Cavendish hiding out?
00:40:43He left a trail leading away from Jim's farm.
00:40:46I think I might be able to follow it, Sheriff.
00:40:49Good.
00:40:49I'll get some men from town.
00:40:50That'll take too much time.
00:40:52It would be quicker for you to come with me now.
00:40:55Tonto can ride to town.
00:40:56Me do.
00:40:57Then follow your trail.
00:40:59All right, engine.
00:40:59See my man Creel at the office.
00:41:01He'll get some men.
00:41:04What's at length, Jim?
00:41:21Look here.
00:41:29Wagon track.
00:41:32Cavendish was followed by someone in the wagon
00:41:34and a horseman riding alongside of it.
00:41:36Those tracks were made by Doc Drummond's rig.
00:41:39He's got the only narrow rims around here.
00:41:42So far, so good.
00:41:43Let's go.
00:41:55Doc, take it easy.
00:41:57Well, I'm doing the best I can.
00:42:02There it is.
00:42:05All right, get on with the bandage and I'm in a hurry.
00:42:07What's the matter?
00:42:08Are you scared of something like maybe the sheriff will find us?
00:42:12Why should I be?
00:42:13I'm getting rid of him just like I did everybody else of importance in Colby.
00:42:17You mean to say that you're responsible for all those murders that have happened in the last week?
00:42:21Sure.
00:42:22Might as well let you know.
00:42:24You see, Doc, all the men that have stepped into the vacated positions belong to my organization.
00:42:30It's taken a lot of planning, but we're just about set.
00:42:32I'm taking over Colby.
00:42:34Well, why are you telling me this?
00:42:36I'm going to be leaving Sawbones in my organization, and I've just decided you're going to be him.
00:42:40Like blazes I am.
00:42:42I'd die before I'd help a pack of Kyle Sutton.
00:42:45What was that?
00:42:46A gun, Nag.
00:42:48I think they heard us.
00:42:50Somebody over there.
00:42:51Give me that gun.
00:42:52I'll cover the dock.
00:42:53You boys get over there and find out.
00:42:56They come.
00:42:57Take cover.
00:43:22Relax, Doc.
00:43:24Whatever's going on out there, my men will take care of it.
00:43:40Hold it.
00:43:41Hold it.
00:43:58Much obliged, partner.
00:44:00Watch these men, Sheriff.
00:44:02I'll go help the dock.
00:44:06Jerry!
00:44:08Pike!
00:44:09What's going on?
00:44:11Answer!
00:44:14You go take a look.
00:44:15I want to find out what's happening.
00:44:16But don't run.
00:44:18I've got this on your back.
00:44:26Cavendish, drop that gun.
00:44:29All right, Sheriff.
00:44:30Bring in the others.
00:44:36You all right, Doc?
00:44:38Yeah, I'm all right.
00:44:39Who's the last man?
00:44:40He's on the side of the law.
00:44:42Well, this crook was going to take over Colby.
00:44:44He admitted all those murders.
00:44:46We know, Doc.
00:44:47We overheard him.
00:44:48Sheriff, you can take Cavendish to town in Doc's buggy.
00:44:51These other three will tie up and put on their horses.
00:44:55Doc, do you know where their mounts are?
00:44:56Yeah, it's behind the rocks over yonder.
00:44:58Thanks.
00:45:00Here you are, Doc.
00:45:02Watch these out who's close.
00:45:03Well, I'll tie them up.
00:45:05Yeah.
00:45:05I hope they do make a move.
00:45:07Especially this one.
00:45:09Remember this, boys.
00:45:10I'm not in jail yet.
00:45:12Shut up.
00:45:13Working your mouth is making a move.
00:45:16Come on, Silver.
00:45:24Silver.
00:45:29What's wrong, Silver?
00:45:36Those are my men.
00:45:38I knew they were due here about this time.
00:45:43So you thought you had me, Sheriff.
00:45:45Well, you have.
00:45:48You, the Sawbones, and that mash man over there behind those rocks
00:45:51can start counting the minutes you've got to live.
00:45:53Beginning right now.
00:45:56Silver.
00:46:29Scattered, ma'am.
00:46:32Something's happened to the bug.
00:46:50All right, boys.
00:46:51I got them.
00:46:52Get them high, Sheriff.
00:46:54Come on in, men.
00:46:55It's me, Cavendish.
00:46:57The shooting's over.
00:47:01Looks like we got here just in time, boss.
00:47:03You did.
00:47:04Tie these men up.
00:47:04What goes on?
00:47:06I got winged after a shot Judge Knox.
00:47:08The Sawbones there was treating me when the Sheriff and the mash man took things over.
00:47:11Is that the hombre we seen ride off on the white horse?
00:47:13Yeah.
00:47:14Which way did he go?
00:47:14Up the draw.
00:47:16They're all tied up, boss.
00:47:19Good.
00:47:20I'll watch him.
00:47:21You men get after that mash man before he gets to Colby and spoils our plans and bring
00:47:25him back dead or alive.
00:47:26You heard it, boys.
00:47:27Let's travel.
00:47:31Meanwhile, unaware of what has happened to the Lone Ranger since last he saw him, Tonto
00:47:35has arrived in the town of Colby.
00:47:37He's on his way to the Sheriff's Office to ask the Sheriff's assistant, Alex Creel, for
00:47:42more men to aid the Lone Ranger in tracking down Butch Cavendish.
00:47:48The way you keep on cleaning that gun, Corey, you must be figuring on using it soon.
00:47:52Nothing like being prepared.
00:47:54Might a lot's been going on around Colby lately, and the shooting's only just begun.
00:47:59Creel says there's going to be more of it tonight.
00:48:04Which one of you Sheriff's assistant?
00:48:06There's an orphan of Redskin comes looking for the sheriff.
00:48:09It's usually the other way around.
00:48:10What do you want, Indian?
00:48:11Me want to see Creel.
00:48:13At present, he's busy.
00:48:15I'm handling his business.
00:48:16What's on your mind?
00:48:18Sheriff Taylor sent me.
00:48:19Him on trail of Butch Cavendish.
00:48:21Asked for Creel to come with posse.
00:48:24Oh, he did, huh?
00:48:25You're lying, Indian.
00:48:26Everybody around here knows that Cavendish gang is nowhere around here.
00:48:30That's not so.
00:48:31I see Cavendish myself.
00:48:33You come.
00:48:34I'll show you a trail.
00:48:35Will you listen to the Redskin ordering us around?
00:48:38I don't know what your game is, Indian, but if Sheriff Taylor really sent you, you'd
00:48:42have some kind of proof.
00:48:43You follow Tonto.
00:48:45You have plenty of proof.
00:48:46Seems to me this Redskin's getting a little ornery, Corey.
00:48:49Should I throw him in jail?
00:48:50No, they can go.
00:48:52Don't come nosing around here again or you won't get off so easy.
00:48:55Creel left orders not to lead a posse anywhere.
00:49:02Say, Corey, do you think he was on a level about the Sheriff being on Cavendish's trail?
00:49:06Of course he was on the level.
00:49:07Why do you think I was trying to protect Cavendish?
00:49:09With all of our plans set for tonight, we can't let the Sheriff mess things up.
00:49:13But if that engine gets back to the Sheriff and tells him the Creel needs...
00:49:15We're not going to get back to the Sheriff because you're going to see that he doesn't.
00:49:19Savvy?
00:49:20Oh, I say.
00:49:21You got nothing to worry about.
00:49:26Oh, I say.
00:50:09Nothing like making sure, Engine.
00:50:12No, no, no, no, no, no.
00:50:59It's Taro, Silver.
00:51:01Taro.
00:51:03Taro.
00:51:05Me follow trail, Kimo Sabe.
00:51:07Take long time.
00:51:08Where's the posse?
00:51:09No posse.
00:51:11Sheriff's men and Colby wouldn't send men with me.
00:51:13He must be one of Cavendish's men.
00:51:15That's right.
00:51:16Him send men to ambush me.
00:51:18Let me take care of him.
00:51:20You find Cavendish?
00:51:22Yes.
00:51:23But his men rode down from the hills and surrounded the Sheriff and Doc Drummond.
00:51:27We go back and round them up?
00:51:28No, there are too many of them.
00:51:30We'd need a whole troop of cavalry to capture them all.
00:51:34But I've got a plan, Taro.
00:51:36Now, here's the idea.
00:51:38We'll circle back.
00:51:56That's Cavendish's horse.
00:51:58He must still be here.
00:51:59The rest of his men are out looking for me.
00:52:02Where Doc and Sharon?
00:52:03Over in the glen behind the brush.
00:52:06Come on, Taro.
00:52:07Taro.
00:52:09Taro.
00:52:22Taro.
00:52:46That's Sherry's horse.
00:52:48Yes, Tonto.
00:52:49He still must be here with the doc.
00:52:50I imagine that Cavendish is watching our friends until his men return.
00:52:55We'll sneak up to the glen.
00:52:57If Cavendish is there, I'll want to surprise him.
00:53:00Then you know what to do.
00:53:02A hoodo.
00:53:02Me understand.
00:53:03We'll leave our horses here.
00:53:35Take it easy, you two.
00:53:37I may not be strong enough to travel, but I've got strength enough to pull a trigger.
00:53:41You won't get away with this.
00:53:42Cavendish, how long do you think honest people are going to condone activities like yours, Cavendish?
00:53:48You know I've got men in my office who've sworn never to rest until you're captured.
00:53:54Myself included, of course.
00:53:56And that masked man, he's one of my special secret deputies.
00:54:01Your men will never catch him.
00:54:08Uh, you know, Cavendish, the doc here and I and, uh, and the masked man, we know a lot more
00:54:15about you than you think we do.
00:54:17Why, there's hand builds on you all over this territory, pasted on every rock and every tree.
00:54:22You'll never get out of here.
00:54:23And another thing.
00:54:25Woo-hoo.
00:54:31Yeah, that boy stranger, you're a psych for sore eyes.
00:54:34Yeah, I thought we were goners.
00:54:36Who's the Indian?
00:54:37He's my friend.
00:54:38Are you both all right?
00:54:39Yeah, we're all right.
00:54:40Yeah.
00:54:43Cavendish is out cold.
00:54:47Where you been stranger?
00:54:48I was getting worried.
00:54:49I rode off on silver.
00:54:51Metano coming from Colby.
00:54:52We sneaked in here the back way.
00:54:55Sheriff, your man Creel in town wouldn't send the posse.
00:54:58Him no believe, Tonto.
00:55:00Well, then that proves he's part of this murder and fiends band.
00:55:04And I can name more in town that are working with him.
00:55:08Well, anyway, we got Cavendish.
00:55:10We can load him in Doc's rig and take him on into town.
00:55:12Wait a minute, Sheriff.
00:55:14I want to capture more of the gang than just Cavendish.
00:55:17He's the leader.
00:55:18With help, we can capture him and his entire band when they return.
00:55:22Take too long to get help from Colby.
00:55:24They'll all get away.
00:55:25There's help much closer than town, Sheriff.
00:55:28Tonto said he saw a cavalry detachment passing a short distance off.
00:55:32We'll get their help.
00:55:35Leave Cavendish here.
00:55:36He's out in two weeks to travel anyway.
00:55:43Well.
00:55:46Whatever you say.
00:55:47All right.
00:55:48Let's go.
00:55:49Come on, Doc.
00:55:50Don't worry.
00:55:51You're not going to lose me.
00:56:03Which way to the cavalry, mister?
00:56:05Take the right fork and circle back to Colby.
00:56:08To Colby?
00:56:09What about the cavalry?
00:56:10There are no cavalry.
00:56:12Thought you said they're passing through hereabouts.
00:56:14What I said was for Cavendish to hear.
00:56:16Well, he couldn't hear anything.
00:56:17I think he was unconscious.
00:56:19You should have examined him when I did, Doc.
00:56:21He was faking.
00:56:23Well, if there's no cavalry, just what entire nation are you aiming to do?
00:56:27I'm trying to delay Cavendish's plan, Sheriff, to gain time.
00:56:30We have a lot to do tonight in Colby.
00:56:33All right, Doc.
00:56:34Let's get on with it.
00:56:35All right.
00:56:54Unless some of these men spotted the masked man, Chief, at the sense he didn't head for Colby.
00:56:58I know he didn't.
00:56:59Say, what happened to the prisoners?
00:57:00The masked man must have hidden the brush nearby.
00:57:02While you were out straining the eyes for him, he'd come back here with an engine, friend.
00:57:06Turn the prisoners loose, huh?
00:57:07Yeah.
00:57:08They all let out fast, but not for Colby.
00:57:10They went the opposite direction.
00:57:11Where did they go?
00:57:12I overheard the masked man tell a sheriff there's a group of cavalry passing nearby.
00:57:16Now, they've gone up to get them to round us all up, so we've got to work fast.
00:57:20Green, you, Sellers, and Shep stick care of me.
00:57:22We'll go back to the hideout.
00:57:24The rest of you try to head off the prisoners.
00:57:26See if you can spot that cavalry, too.
00:57:28This is going to delay my plans concerning Colby a bit.
00:57:31I can't take any chances.
00:57:33Now get stirring.
00:57:45I sure hope Cleo didn't say us come in here.
00:57:48The sheriff's office is practically next door to mine, and I noticed the lights were still on.
00:57:52That's all for the good, Doc.
00:57:54It will give Tonto a chance to sneak over there and see if anyone else is in the office with
00:57:58Creo.
00:57:59While he's gone, we can make up that list of the names of the people we want to surprise.
00:58:04Me go now, Kimotabe.
00:58:05Be careful, Tonto.
00:58:06Remember, Creel is one of Cavendish's men.
00:58:09You know what happened the last time you tried to see him.
00:58:12Me be plenty careful.
00:58:13You make list ready.
00:58:14Tonka be back fast.
00:58:18Are we sure that we hid your horses and my wagon far enough out of town?
00:58:22If anybody gets wind we're here, there'll be trouble.
00:58:24Well, if we act fast enough, nobody will have time to stop us.
00:58:29All right, Sheriff.
00:58:31Write down the names of the new men in town.
00:58:33The ones who've been taking over all the top jobs.
00:58:36Well, first of all, there's Creel, of course.
00:58:39Put his name at the head of the list.
00:58:42If we take the jail first, we'll have a place to lock up all the others.
00:58:46And then there's Keeler.
00:58:47He took over the bank as soon as the judge was murdered.
00:58:50Keeler.
00:58:51Yes, old Jim told me about him.
00:58:53Yeah, and what about him?
00:58:54He was putting shards at the telegraph all this mighty sudden.
00:58:57Hence, I've heard of him, too.
00:59:00Then there's Jessup.
00:59:01He's that new gunsmith.
00:59:03Peters, Dude, and Corey.
00:59:06Well, Tonto, what did you find out?
00:59:09Me take Pete to window of Sheriff's office.
00:59:11See Creel in there with one man.
00:59:14Just two of them, eh?
00:59:16All right, Sheriff, Doc, we'll start with Creel and his friend.
00:59:19And if everything goes well, we'll end up with the whole Cavendish gang.
00:59:22All right, come on, boys.
00:59:30I wonder what's keeping Cavendish.
00:59:34Sure getting to be late enough.
00:59:35Oh, I don't know, Peel.
00:59:37Maybe him and the boys were held out.
00:59:39Probably just sent us a message or something.
00:59:46Who is it?
00:59:47It's me, Doc Drummond.
00:59:48An emergency.
00:59:49Dog, I thought you was out of town street.
00:59:51Quiet, you two.
00:59:53Keep your hands high.
00:59:54Say, what's going on here?
00:59:56Cleaning, Creel.
00:59:57Tonto, get Red's gun.
01:00:01We have reasons to believe you two are working for Butch Cavendish.
01:00:05And I've got an idea.
01:00:06Those credentials you showed me to get your job were forged.
01:00:09Now, wait a minute.
01:00:09You can't prove that.
01:00:11Get in that cell.
01:00:12You two, Red.
01:00:13Two gun.
01:00:13Give me that list.
01:00:14You made a Creel's pal.
01:00:15Fetcher.
01:00:16All right.
01:00:22All right, Doc.
01:00:23We've got to hurry.
01:00:24It's getting light outside.
01:00:25Come on, Tonto.
01:00:42Now, who's there?
01:00:44It's Doc Drummond.
01:00:47Yeah?
01:00:48Well, what are you doing here this time of day?
01:00:50Are you running the back now in place of Judge Knox?
01:00:52Yeah, but what's that got to do?
01:00:53We'll take a gander.
01:00:54The place is on fire.
01:00:55Fire?
01:00:57All right, Keeler.
01:00:58March.
01:00:59Huh?
01:01:06Keeler, check.
01:01:08One down and seven to go.
01:01:16Are you the gent that took over the telegraph office when Biff Anderson got his?
01:01:20What about it, Doc?
01:01:21Well, come on quick.
01:01:22Your place is on fire.
01:01:23What?
01:01:24Put your hands up, Rivers.
01:01:30Fire?
01:01:31On your way, Jessup.
01:01:37No trace of the masked man and his friends, huh?
01:01:39No, we spent the whole night looking.
01:01:41What about the cavalry?
01:01:42Must have gone through here awful fast, Chief.
01:01:45There are a sign of them now.
01:01:47Good.
01:01:48Then there's nothing to stop us from moving into Colby right now.
01:01:50Right.
01:01:51Let's go.
01:01:57All right, men.
01:01:58You heard the masked man.
01:01:59Everything goes as we figured.
01:02:01We'll have the Cavendish gang locked up by sundown.
01:02:04Anu, are your men all set?
01:02:06Yes, Kimo Sabe.
01:02:12Here they come.
01:02:14All right, boys.
01:02:15Let's go get them.
01:02:16Come on, Silver.
01:02:34They're from Colby.
01:02:36And the masked man's leading them.
01:02:38We can take them.
01:02:39We outnumber them.
01:02:40Let them have it, men.
01:02:40Let them have it.
01:03:10All right.
01:03:11We outnumber them!
