00:20Da Ji is known as the worst and the most evil woman that China has ever had in its long
00:26history.
00:27Da Ji was the favorite consort of King Zhu of Shang, the last king of the Shang dynasty in ancient
00:34China. She was an evil, malevolent fox spirit in Chinese legends as well as novels.
00:41Novels narrated that Da Ji is the incarnation of a silvery fox that assumed a human form after a thousand
00:49years of self-cultivation.
00:51She was summoned by Nu Wu, the celestial sovereign, to corrupt the Dixin, the tyrant of the powerful state of
00:59Shang, so that his people would eventually rise and overthrow him.
01:04Note that in the Chinese history, Dixin is known as Zhu. In the novels, Da Ji knew her mission was
01:12no easy task and so, before her departure, Nu Wu, the celestial highness, promised her an immortal status after her
01:21mission was accomplished.
01:22However, according to historical record, Da Ji was the beautiful daughter of a noble family named Zhu in the state
01:31of Yu Zhu.
01:32Da Ji had wanted to learn the ways of a warrior and maybe, just maybe, become strong enough to defend
01:39her family and the state of Zhu.
01:42Unfortunately, there were no hopes for her dreams. In 1047 BC, Zhu, the tyrant of Shang, conquered the state of
01:52Zhu and took Da Ji's his trophy.
01:55Da Ji's hope of becoming a warrior was dashed. Her father Zhu who had given her to King Zhu of
02:02Shang as an appeasement offer.
02:04One night before Da Ji was sent to the capital city of Shu, she was possessed by an evil nine
02:11-tailed fox spirit, which is a thousand-year-old vixen.
02:16When Da Ji arrived in Shu, she became the center of attention of King Zhu and caused the king to
02:22be extremely obsessed with her.
02:24By then, the king was in his sixties and had been in his throne for forty years. He had been
02:32known as strong, heroic, oratory and well-versed in music.
02:37Under his reign, Shang had become a powerful and prosperous state.
02:42But all these changed for the bad. The moment Da Ji came into his life.
02:47Zhu was a bit known for his infatuated love for women. And Da Ji was his bane.
02:54In a short while after Da Ji's arrival, she rose above the ranks from a minor concubine to become the
03:01queen based on the king's favoritism towards her.
03:05King Zhu became extremely infatuated with Da Ji and started to neglect state affairs in order to keep her company.
03:13He used any means necessary to integrate himself with her and to please her.
03:19Da Ji liked animals so he built her a zoological Xanadu with several rare species of birds and animals.
03:27Da Ji also liked singing and dancing, so he ordered artists to compose lewd music and dances to satisfy her
03:35musical taste.
03:36He gathered three thousand guests at one party to engage in his pond of alcohol and forest of meat, which
03:45was cooked meat strips hanging from a wood of trees.
03:48He allowed the guests to play a cat and mouse game, with the guests being nude in the forest, just
03:56to amuse Da Ji.
03:57When a maid of honour and one of King Zhu's concubines, the daughter of Lord Zhu, couldn't bear it any
04:05more, and protested, King Zhu immediately had her executed.
04:09As if that wasn't enough, her aged father was ground in pieces and his flesh fed to the king vassals.
04:17Da Ji had eventually become a full-blown brute herself.
04:21Her greatest joy was to hear people cry in physical torment.
04:25Once, she saw a farmer walking barefoot on ice and ordered his feet to be cut off, so she could
04:33study them and figure out why they were so resistant to cold temperatures.
04:38There was another occasion when Da Ji saw a pregnant woman, and being curious about what could possibly be inside
04:46the protruding belly, she had the pregnant woman's belly cut open, so it satisfied her curiosity.
04:53In another incident, just to verify an ancient saying that a good man's heart has seven apertures, the evil Da
05:02Ji even had the heart of the minister by Gan, King Zhu's uncle, dug out and subjected to her scrutiny.
05:09Da Ji was popularly known for her invention of a method of torture known as palau.
05:15The palau is a bronze cylinder covered with oil, which was heated like a furnace with charcoal beneath until its
05:23sides became extremely hot.
05:26The victim sentenced to this painful death method, was made to walk on top of the slowly heating cylinder and
05:33he was forced to shift his feet to avoid the burning.
05:37The oily surface made it difficult for the victim to maintain his position and balance.
05:42If the victim fell into the charcoal below, he would be burnt to death.
05:48The victim was forced to dance and scream in agony before dying.
05:53In a slightly different version, the victim would be tied on the cylinder and baked to death.
05:59Da Ji took great joy in the painful cries of the victims, she and the king laughing in delight all
06:07the while the victim suffers in agony.
06:09During the time King Zhu was occupied with making himself and Da Ji happy, a certain tribe grew a deep
06:17-rooted hatred towards the king and began to plot his downfall.
06:21The last straw which broke the camel's back was when Boyi Cao, eldest son of Ji Chang, leader of the
06:29rebellious Zhu tribe, visited the capital.
06:33It is said that he had a love affair with Dai Ji.
06:36So the wrathful King Zhu had Cao killed and his body grounded.
06:41That not being enough, the king made Ji Chang drink the soup of his son's flesh before jailing him.
06:48It was only after many rescue efforts that Ji Chang finally was released two years later.
06:55But shortly after his release, Ji Chang died, heartbroken by the inhuman way his eldest son died.
07:03Twelve years after Ji Chang's death, his youngest son Ji Fa, launched an attack against Shang to avenge his family.
07:11Fortunately for him, the whole kingdom and even neighbouring kingdoms, had developed even more intense anger and hatred towards the
07:21tyrannical kings Zhu and Dai Ji.
07:24This made it easier for Jafar to achieve his goal.
07:28Just as Jafar began the attack, the better armed and invincible army of Shang sided him and offered him their
07:36help.
07:36The soldiers betrayed and turned their weapons against their tyrannical ruler, King Zhu.
07:43Seeing his dynasty doomed, the king committed suicide by setting fire upon himself.
07:50Jafar's mission was successful, thus, he became the new king.
07:54And what about Dai Ji?
07:57Dai Ji, being powerless now, was mercilessly put to death by Jafar, king of the new dynasty of Zhu, following
08:06the advice of priest Jiang Zia.
08:08Jiang Zia, then exorcised the evil fox spirit, banishing it from the human world.
08:15Having being banned from the human realm, Dai Ji the fox tried returning to the celestial realm, but she was
08:23denied entry.
08:24And to her utter shock, Nu was sentenced Dai Ji, the fox, to death instead of making her an immortal
08:32as she had promised.
08:34This was because she had been so carried away by the pleasures of the human world, that she committed several
08:40atrocities deemed unacceptable by the celestial beings.
08:44Dai Ji had obviously been overzealous in doing what she had been asked to do.
08:50Alas, Dai Ji paid for her crimes by being put to death in both worlds.
08:56This, is the story of Dai Ji.
09:02The story of Mohammed Daffo, who was the Mauritius and Daffo's
