01:32okay phil has phil has a passion for steam oh okay well we wait a minute are you thinking
01:41of actually purchasing something that's steam powered no that is not a tabletop item no he's
01:48got loads and loads of um stationary engines i know that okay but everything else i know not
01:54really but his place is just the loveliest well you'll see mate okay it's quality whether we return
02:04with a steam engine or just some steamed up windows who knows but borstal here we come

02:20standing at the pearly gates and phil's there man he goes what do you want first have a look at
02:27the
02:27steam engines yeah stationeries what is it for you about stationary stuff and steam i mean look at
02:33those locos over there those i mean it's just yeah i mean they're good fun but um stationary you
02:38just start them up and just enjoy them they're relaxing they you know and you can saw a bit
02:42wood up with them or it's fantastic i mean if you lived in a place like this why you don't
02:47need to
02:47go anywhere so stationeries are your friends that is true it does spoil you for going out to be honest
02:51yeah yeah i'm a bit of a recluse getting in here we're lucky aren't we really yeah to be like
02:56that
02:56it's a disease yeah and i don't want to get over it man is everything for sale or do you
03:00have some
03:00sacred special there is quite a bit of sacred stuff to be honest with you yeah of course i know
03:04there is
03:04there always is hey look mate look we'll have a rummage about as always okay and uh call you in
03:08on a few things so i'm fascinated to know about a few things okay and then uh hopefully we'll do
03:12it do a deal hopefully have a haggle yeah uh phil great look we'll start we'll start here wherever
03:17you want okay mate see you in a bit okay see you in a while yeah cheers see you soon
03:20come on bye now
03:23phil's first shed has more heavy metal than monsters of rock
03:31signs stationary engines
03:34and most importantly a useful tool to help you amass even more a bit of heavy lifting power
03:45probably an industrial sort of yard crane is it what do you guess so um let's just have a look
03:50inside
03:51here we go we've got a diesel engine in there so isn't that a fantastic thing it's just fabulous
03:57isn't it can you imagine restoring that and just paint it a sort of british racing green that's right
04:02and then lifting things oh we could spend all day lifting things we could put guy in a harness
04:09and take him up and leave him there you could or you could strap a motorcycle suspend it and work
04:16on it
04:20coming back down to earth across the way he's got a lawn full of cricket rollers including this little
04:28baby you love this don't you yeah i mean you can you could can i have a cricket pitch i
04:34could have
04:35a cricket yeah here come on need a handle oh look at that okay a keen shum or kensham i'd
04:41call it a
04:42keen shum and this obviously is the gear shifter you go forward and back huh yep i would think so
04:49yeah that's a great thing how old is that do you reckon do you know i don't think it's particularly
04:54old
04:55i would say earliest i'm gonna i'm gonna hazard a guess at 1930s but possibly possibly it could be
05:04post-war mate i'd love it and also look there's a hitch you can tow your friends around with it
05:14as well
05:18for rollers of a different kind phil's got some steam giants
05:26and giantesses josephine's been here for a while where'd you get her that came about
05:3180 1989 from a friend of mine up at chesham 1989 was this your first this was the first one
05:39okay this
05:39was the first one the highland made highland made yeah scottish but the other one's a little bit
05:43special that's the bucks county council so it could have worked around these roads
05:48today these are worth tens of thousands but not that long ago they were sold for scrap
05:55was it just simply because diesel came in diesel rollers uh yeah yeah press the button and away you
06:02go and these were heavy so they were they were worth weighing in that's right yeah well yeah yeah
06:07the brass on them everything and everything else yeah the rollers were going at one time i think it was
06:11sort of say in the 50s and 60s 25 quid wow that's what they weighed to yes in scrap so
06:17they have 25
06:17quid for a roller it's just i mean sacrilege now looking back at it it is anyway let's get back
06:22in
06:23the shed thanks phil you're seeing a little bit i'm loving these things perhaps we should buy one of
06:27these that would be great oh no it's just cost a little bit too much
06:36moving on to phil's more bijou sheds wow
06:42if you're going to have a film set yeah yes of an old shed yeah this is it you just
06:50go oh phil
06:51can i borrow this for the afternoon do you know what i mean this is absolutely amazing i think people
06:57try their best to emulate that god blimey what's no okay so that i've got one of these yeah it's
07:03one
07:03of my prized possessions so you've got yourself a two gallon can yes yeah but these are called duo
07:08counts yes i know there we are and there it is that is fantastic isn't it isn't that a beautiful
07:13thing lovely unrestored original beautiful and a thing of beauty yeah you won't sell it
07:22we've got to buy something though and luckily there is one more shed blimey o'reilly what the heck is
07:29that i've never seen a guzzi that small oh well done what it's got compression and i've got compression
07:38i was expecting it to be seized
07:44motor guzzi is one of italy's most famous bike brands founded in 1921 in genova over here it's
07:52known for its big racing and cruising bikes but in the 70s and 80s they also produced budget models
07:59like this this could be a good little yard bike couldn't it you know just dress it up a little
08:04bit
08:04clean it up i mean if milliard could get that going to me as a young lad that would have
08:10been
08:10a great thing to knock about on it hasn't got a v5 though has it but it's a farm bike
08:15well i don't
08:16yeah it's a farm bike it's last taxed in 1991 so it might be on the system let's have a
08:21little shimmy
08:22shall we okay gro 96t yeah search oh my god oh my god it's come up well that's amazing
08:35and so is that come this way now that is nice isn't it here trolley into the light
08:44careful you might get your hands dirty oh yeah oh dear yeah
08:47hey it's up oh you've got you've got grease all over you okay so a little two-stroke oil dispenser
08:53very lovely could clean up nice yes i mean not they're not that you know valuable but at the
08:59same time they're lovely and decorative in my view i agree with you i think that's a lovely thing to
09:04just have just at the entrance to your to have them to hold yeah from this day forth yeah okay
09:11so look
09:11we've got this we've got the guzzy yes we've got the uh the roller cricket roller yeah but also
09:19there was that sign on the outside but what what was that one that dominion the dominion sign yeah
09:23whether he'd ever oh so you can always ask yeah there's all you can always say no can't we
09:28should we go and ask yeah yeah come on so where are we going to start uh there's a lovely
09:40dominion
09:41sign on the wall over there yeah i know i know he i know he likes that i know yeah
09:46sorry
09:47i still collect signs so okay okay while we're getting the negatives out of the way yeah yeah you're
09:53not going to sell the duo can to me are you i can't henry no no so talk to me
09:58about that little
09:59cricket pitch roller thing i bought that a couple of years ago at a sale and um yeah really pleased
10:05with it going to do loads of things they get it going and yeah and i haven't touched it to
10:09be
10:09honest so it's it's here it's there it's a nice ornament yes it could be yes do you know how
10:14much that
10:14would be much as possible really what would you offer yeah there we go well batted over the net there
10:22around a monkey probably 500. 550 is yours
10:27i wouldn't argue with the man all right so never argue with film yeah exactly right we haven't even
10:33started yet i mean the seat's nice and then it's nice plate on it okay now look what is that
10:38little
10:39goosey about in there that one two five yeah i mean that's up for grabs really i mean that's another
10:43thing i saw and i thought i'll get it do something with it run at all it's got compression and
10:48not like
10:48no no no it did when it was new yeah obviously it did very good it's good i mean for
10:54a goosey that
10:54is surprising i have to tell you uh how much is it 300 and it's yours
11:14we're over in borstal with phil and his cherry picked collection we've already got a cricket
11:20roller and a bidding on a baby motor guzzy 300 in the shoes can i do 250 on the guzzy
11:29if i'm doing 550
11:30on the uh on the rear max around yeah done yeah okay yeah sorted that's great next day back at
11:43the
11:43shed we weigh up our options uh troops come on i'm speaking to alan you're feeling a bit queasy
11:53oh okay mate all right okay yeah no look well get well man oh yeah i'll see you in the
11:58morning
11:58all right okay all right but bye bye bye bye bye bye is that al he's pulled a sickie hasn't
12:05he no he was
12:05getting on his motorbike and he felt a little bit bilious okay uh so he's not coming oh so we've
12:11got
12:11our work cut out by the look of it what do you reckon skid uh i think he's done well
12:16to go through
12:16the slips that's what i honestly think he'll be here tomorrow okay so if we can't do anything uh we'll
12:24have tea uh so look man this is it skiddy we've just been having a little look at it and
12:29it is it is
12:31oh don't tell me is it seized it is yes at the moment which means we can't check even for
12:36a spark
12:36no so we need to unseize it first but the good news is right that the engine is quite easy
12:44to guess
12:44at i think it'll do wonders for my paddock it could do uh if it goes i think this is
12:51going to be a bit
12:52of a nightmare no it's i know i'm you're always half empty i think it's going to be fine yes
12:58but
12:58i'm always half full you are the dregs yeah it is um but my dregs are born from experience
13:05i'm telling you with this tread with caution i'm a pessimistic optimist which means henry
13:12i'm a realist shall we move on to another little artifact yes
13:21it is a 121 i think it is cc it's blown illegal yeah exactly it is yeah my view is
13:30i bought it from
13:30phil not perhaps because we're going to restore it now but just stash it for a rainy winter you know
13:37it'll disintegrate completely no we'll put it in the shed but it's 250 quid for god's sake hey look
13:43shall we forget that for a bit and just see what we can do with this thing yep just to
13:48see the
13:48problem we are the bay city rollers
13:54and on that splendid note what we're going to do first well are we trying to crank it yeah yeah
14:01what
14:01about if we rolled it backwards and forwards a bit well we need to find out is it in gear
14:05or not
14:06no i don't think look once you've got it going watch that please help feel free okay
14:16jump starting might seem like a good plan go forwards come on what's good forwards you're
14:22good it isn't hey let's get a run up and what have we got a manual for this because i
14:29think we need a
14:30bit of rtfm oh yeah we have what's rtfm read the flipping manual in fact we don't have a manual
14:36and even
14:38when we strip it yep bang it phil said that it was tight but it wasn't seized i would say
14:48that it's very
14:49tight yeah yeah and try a bit of brute force we get no joy why don't we just try the
14:57gator good idea gator
14:59it is here we go okay look at that that's made for towing baby
15:13well it is rolling nicely hey
15:22it's flattening beautifully but not under its own steam
15:26the bad news is what i think we're in for a complete engine out and rebuild on this before
15:32we get any action out of it however there is a good bit of news what we now know that
15:38the gator
15:39toes this so we could still make a nice flat lawn no disrespect fuzz skid whatever but milliard
15:47does like lawn mowers and that kind of stuff yes so it might be a milliard experience so it's got
15:54a
15:54stay of execution until tomorrow yeah well fuzz is not here tomorrow yeah yeah i'm afraid so yeah
15:59so it's just going to be you me and the wizard
16:06next morning alan's in the house
16:11the motor guzzy's a no-no because the flywheel's missing and it'll take weeks to get a spare
16:18but for the engine whisperer a seized lawn roller is an irresistible challenge the piston is stuck
16:25into the barrel you've got a bit you've got to slide the barrel off the piston so we can clean
16:28that up
16:29to make it work sounds like a plan but getting the barrel off is not quite as easy as alan
16:34thinks
16:34it's coming off it's coming off it's coming off alan tries wiggling it's coming oh yeah levering
16:48and more levering oh we are very close man we are so close that's it that's gonna do it but
16:56it takes all
16:57three of us before oh it's off then we're down in the way look at that baby oh alan you
17:05are now we're
17:05cooking with gas now we're cooking so what we've got to do is clean that let's give that a good
17:10cleanup with some sandpaper hone it basically that's your job okay oh that blasted war wound yeah again
17:17and he's left us with the a messy job let's get some rag hey look so we are in with
17:23a shout now this
17:24will be running within an hour sounds like famous last words but not when it comes from the milliard
17:32over the next hour he gets the magneto sparking
17:36re-grinds the valves beautiful and wiggles the cleaned up barrel back onto the piston
17:48this might actually work hey right your fingers clear around yeah we'll clear yes look at that
17:54perfect alan
17:56that's a good that's a good get it somewhere it's not perfect and needs the help of a well-placed
18:02screwdriver to get it running but an hour later alan million i can't believe it it's fixed it runs sell
18:12it
18:12oh this is oh it's honestly you and have come along and been our angel of mercy i think we
18:20could go
18:21rolling okay i think you can after lunch we head for my paddock go on skin now yes alan alan
18:33this is it
18:40i think the clutch needs adjusting revs out in truth we have a few false starts
18:49that's it and misdemeanors alan you're going the wrong way it works going backwards
18:56so should we do the secrets going backwards
19:03but after a little push and tickle
19:08that's it it runs it runs now my paddock is more football pitch than cricket ground
19:18but we are officially flattening some grass
19:22and unofficially increasing global warming by at least a degree
19:28great high five look at that oh it runs it's all good it is ready for sale once it stops
19:36smoking
19:37come on hey look i'll tell you what i'm going to give you some good news yeah
19:40now that's running we can sell that and the guzzy we can start restoring in the next millennium
19:50all right fantastic you're a genius al genius
19:57next day we get a punter my mate spence his gardener des has got a mold problem please take a
20:05closer look did you expect this or did you expect a nice sort of you know gold rolls royce des
20:12is
20:13obsessed by a croquet lawn and the moles have been at it well hopefully he will carry on his theme
20:20your gardener of actually enjoying vintage garden machinery because this does need well it needs a
20:28proper going over we've got it going but it took forever alan had to rebuild the engine but you know
20:34now it's a classic at 700 pounds 700 quid des my god what's he got me into all right that's
20:43the
20:43best roller you've ever been on it is properly special where's the accelerator there there there
20:48it's a thumbs accelerator look at that yeah that's it mate uh now supposedly well that's the brake
20:54supposedly i don't think i don't think it works have you got a service history with it no spence please
21:00look lad i i can't only stretch to about 600 quid for this bit of kit because they'll keep des
21:05do you think yeah what are you doing yeah yeah great we'll have it delivered free of charge
21:10once he gets it going properly it's going to be a lovely thing well there we are we'll give it
21:14a
21:14good home see if it lasts more than a week yeah marvelous hey you wouldn't be interested in a motor
21:19busy yeah look at that let's go and have a look cool blimey oh well that's the result yeah i
21:31thought
21:31i was going to have to weigh that roller in so look we made 50 quid he saved the day
21:36and i've still got
21:37the guzzy happy days
21:41you
