Supergirl actress Milly Alcock and screenwriter Ana Nogueira discuss the online trend of 'optimization culture' and why it's important for young girls to know it's okay to be imperfect.
Transcript
00:00Millie, I loved what you said in an interview, I think it was a couple months ago, about wanting young
00:03girls to walk away from this movie, like knowing it's okay to be a bit bad and messy.
00:08And I'm chronically online, I don't know if you guys are, but there's like a discourse right now about optimization
00:12culture and how it's like ruining fun.
00:15What do you guys think about that? Because I think this movie is kind of like a cool commentary on
00:18it.
00:20Oh, optimization culture.
00:22Yeah, I mean that ultimately everybody is on their own individual journey of who they are and something that could
00:30be extremely beneficial to one person, could be extremely toxic to another because of our set of given circumstances and
00:38the way that we are expected to present to the world, we want to present to the world and our
00:42past.
00:43So I think that ultimately, it's like, you know, you just have to be who you are and accept that
00:50where you are at right now is good enough.
00:53And sometimes I think that optimizing can become a mask of accepting where you're at.
01:00But if it's helpful to get to where you want to be, then go for it.
01:04But yeah.
01:05Yeah.
01:06I love that answer.
