00:00A couple of social media daredevils are facing possible charges after climbing to the very top of the Empire State
00:05Building and getting engaged more than 1,400 feet above New York City.
00:1033-year-old Angela Nicolau and 32-year-old Ivan Kuznetsov allegedly made their way beyond restricted areas and climbed
00:18the building's 1,454-foot antenna.
00:21The pair even unfurled a banner that read, When the power of love beats the love of power, the world
00:27knows peace, a quote that's often credited to Jimi Hendrix, but actually traces back to 19th century British politician William
00:34Gladstone.
00:35After spending about 30 minutes at the top, the couple climbed back down to the base of the spire where
00:40Kuznetsov dropped to one knee and proposed.
00:42Nicolau, wearing a black cat mask, said yes and later showed off the ring on Instagram.
00:47Police body cam footage shows officers reaching the antenna and promptly taking Nicolau into custody.
00:53Investigators say the pair allegedly breached a security gate above the 102nd floor observation deck to reach the building's maintenance
01:01level.
01:02The barriers were reportedly installed after previous trespassers attempted similar stunts.
01:07This isn't the couple's first high-rise adventure, as their Instagram is filled with photos and videos from the tops
01:13of famous skyscrapers and bridges around the world.
01:15The couple were also featured in the 2024 Netflix documentary Skywalkers, A Love Story.
01:22Nicolau and Kuznetsov are far from the first to scale the Empire State Building.
01:26In 1994, famed French climber Alain Robert, better known as the French Spider-Man, also climbed the iconic skyscraper before
01:34being arrested.
