00:00When I was 19, I fell three floors from a window and broke my back.
00:03I was very fortunate to survive the fall because my spinal cord was still just intact.
00:10And when I was in hospital, I was told for the first four days that I may never walk again.
00:15I'm Orlando Bloom, International Goodwill Ambassador for UNICEF.
00:20That was really the beginning of what was a long and painful journey for me
00:25into recognising and understanding some of the patterns that had been in my life
00:30that had led me to having numerous accidents.
00:33And the culmination was breaking my back, which was a near-death experience.
00:38So after the surgery, I got a back brace and I was able to start physio.
00:45And I actually walked out of hospital on crutches after 12 days,
00:49which was really remarkable and unheard of.
00:53I would say the months after the fall were quite a dark time.
00:59As somebody who'd sort of always been very active in my life,
01:02it felt very restrictive all of a sudden and I was in a lot of pain.
01:06And I would say that for me, the injury created time and space for me to look at my life,
01:15recognise what was good and great in my life and the fact that I had this recovery,
01:20and then build that into the way that I live my life.
01:24Because mental health is particularly challenging because it's unseen.
01:30There is always an opportunity for you to transform the pain,
01:35whether it be physical or mental, into the great good fortune of your life.
01:41And it is so important to reach out to people, to talk to people,
01:46to find somebody in order to create the possibility for communication
01:53that leads to transformation and change.
01:55It starts with one moment, one conversation.
01:59It starts with one question.
02:02What's on your mind?
02:05What is mean by yourself?
02:09What do you think about it?
02:09I don't think it is.
02:10What does it do?
02:10What do you think?
02:10It's easier it can.
02:10Although it's easier.
02:10Oh, good.
02:13What do you think about it?
02:13Grazie.
