00:01The Sultan of Selangor has thanked former Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak for
00:07initiating the LRT3 project and Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim for seeing it through
00:13to completion.
00:14In a royal address issued in conjunction with the opening of the Shah Alam LRT3 line, Sultan
00:21Sharafuddin Idris Shah said he gave credit to Najib for listening to his request to build
00:27a rail link connecting Klang, Shah Alam and Kuala Lumpur.
00:31The ruler said he first raised the proposal with Najib in 2015 after receiving numerous
00:37letters, particularly from housewives, saying their husbands often returned home late due
00:43to traffic congestion on the federal highway.
00:45However, the Sultan said the project was delayed following the 2018 change of government and
00:52later faced further setbacks due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
00:56He also criticised former Finance Minister Lim Guan Eng and his advisor Tony Pua for scaling
01:02back the project, resulting in smaller stations, fewer train carriages and the cancellation of
01:08five proposed stations.
01:09The Sultan thanked Anwar for restoring the five cancelled stations and supporting the construction
01:15of affordable housing near the LRT3 line.
01:18He expressed hope that the new rail service would ease traffic congestion, improve connectivity
01:24and provide a faster, safer and more comfortable mode of transport for the people of Selangor.
01:30He also stressed that no single individual should claim sole credit, saying the project was the
01:37result of cooperation across several administrations for the benefit of the rakyat.
