Why do Karnataka's Chief Ministers avoid Anugraha?
Transcript
00:00People say the CM's official residence in Karnataka is jinxed.
00:03And even the new Chief Minister, DK Shivkumar, has reportedly refused to stay there.
00:07The bungalow is called Anugrah, Sanskrit for Divine Grace.
00:10Reportedly spread across nearly 60,000 square feet, it is Karnataka's official Chief Minister's
00:15residence.
00:16Yet many, including the previous CM Siddharamaya, chose not to live there.
00:20So when people call Anugrah jinxed, these are the stories they are referring to.
00:24HD Devagora left to become Prime Minister.
00:26Dharam Singh lost his majority after the JDS Congress alliance collapsed.
00:30HD Kumaraswamy's power-sharing pact with the BJP fell.
00:34Of them, only Krishna completed his full term, but his party, the Congress, lost the next
00:39assembly polls in 2004.
00:41CM Kumaraswamy tried to find a workaround.
00:43During his 2006-7th stint, astrologers reportedly advised him that keeping two cows at their
00:48residence would break the jinx.
00:49He tried, but by his next tenure in 2018, he had given up on Anugrah entirely and was
00:55cooperating out of the Taj West End Hotel.
00:57The last person to actually live there was Sadanand Gaurda in 2011, but had a brief tenure.
01:02His incomplete tenure reinforced a belief among leaders that those who live there do not return
01:07to lead the state.
01:09No.
