00:01All right, we've got Monday Night Baseball here in the Valley of the Sun.
00:04And tonight, the Giants and D-backs, they're going to meet in Game 1 of the series from Chase Field.
00:09D-backs are 6-0 against the Giants.
00:11Eduardo Rodriguez, the 33-year-old, has had an outstanding season for the Arizona Diamondbacks.
00:16He just seems to get more and more impressive.
00:19Weak contact. Hitters can't do much with the perfect location.
00:22And a tremendous start for Eduardo Rodriguez.
00:24Three fly ball outs, three outs on seven pitches.
00:27Tyler Malley, 31-year-old, first year in a Giants uniform.
00:31He missed a month with a hamstring injury, came back, fastball, a split, and a slider.
00:36That's all he used against the A's, but his best start of the year.
00:39Here is Ketel Marte at second base tonight, leads it off.
00:43He has homered in three of his last four games.
00:46Marte gets it in the air toward the right field corner.
00:49Ramos over there to have a look, and that one's gone.
00:52Hits a leadoff homer for Ketel Marte.
00:55And the homerun parade continues for Ketel.
00:59Marte is now homered in four of his last five games.
01:02That's number 16 on the year.
01:04Just watching the location of this pitch, it was inside right where Malley wanted to throw that ball.
01:10And Ketel, not only is he strong, but he's got such quick hands.
01:14And he kept that ball fair somehow and gives the D-backs a 1-0 lead.
01:19Wasn't quite sure he got enough of that one.
01:21It was hit so high in the air down that right field line.
01:2416th career leadoff homer in his third this season.
01:28And that homerun ties Ketel Marte with Paul Goldschmidt for second on the Diamondbacks career hits list.
01:34And 155 behind Luis Gonzalez for the all-time franchise lead.
01:39Perdomo goes down swinging.
01:40Good splitter there in the dirt.
01:42Haas picks it up and throws to first to complete the putout.
01:46That's the way he wants to throw that splitter.
01:483-2, he got him with the cutter.
01:50Strike three swinging.
01:51So back-to-back two-out hits.
01:53Here come the Giants.
01:53And here comes veteran catcher Eric Haas.
01:56Giants have two on with two out.
01:58Swing and a miss.
01:59Handcuffed him.
02:01Oh, now they have runner caught in a rundown.
02:04Barracotto at first.
02:05Now a quick throw back to Pavin.
02:06Did they put the tag on?
02:07Yes, he is tagged out.
02:09The inning is over.
02:10I have no idea what Barracotto was doing.
02:12He was halfway in between first and second base.
02:15And Gabby just saw him in no-man's land.
02:18Threw it to Pavin.
02:19A simple rundown.
02:20And that'll do it for the Giants.
02:21Here's Goriel to DH.
02:23And he leads off the second against Tyler Bally.
02:25Wide drive.
02:26Center field.
02:27Diving is Cox.
02:30And he makes the catch.
02:32That was big time.
02:33Jonah Cox just robbed Goriel of a hit.
02:36That is the big leagues.
02:37Degree of difficulty about a 9.8 out of 10.
02:40That's how hard this is.
02:41And he's got to come in hot and sit down for it.
02:44Concentration.
02:44Ice never, ever blinked.
02:46Watched it all the way into the glove.
02:47If he doesn't have that first step, he doesn't make that play.
02:50Here's Kepler.
02:51Swing and a miss on a splitter.
02:54Strike three.
02:55The split for Malley since he's come off the IL has been crisp.
02:59Eduardo Rodriguez has pitched brilliantly so far through the first couple of innings.
03:0321 pitches thrown.
03:05Change up.
03:05And Erod picks up his first strikeout.
03:07The one reason I enjoy watching Erod pitch so much is it looks effortless.
03:12Second straight inning.
03:132-1-2 out for the Giants.
03:14It'll bring up Casey Schmidt.
03:15There's a top spin line drive to left.
03:17Kepler coming in.
03:18Makes the bell tie catch in stride.
03:20No panic whatsoever from Kepler.
03:22And that's going to do it for the Giant offense here in the third.
03:25They strand two more.
03:26Let's bring up Lourdes Gurriel Jr.
03:28Two outs for Gurriel.
03:29Wines that one over the head of Chapman and down the line.
03:33Barricotto over to pick it up near the bullpen.
03:35And Lourdes chugs into second with a two-out double.
03:37Just the third hit against Tyler Malley.
03:40Good to see Lourdes snap hooking one.
03:41When he first came off the injured list, he was hitting a lot of balls to right field.
03:45He was tardy on a lot of fastballs.
03:47But he's starting to catch up to them now.
03:49Great chance here for Max Kepler to pick up his first Diamondback hit.
03:53He struck out his first time against Malley.
03:55Check swing.
03:56Side retired.
03:57Thank you very much.
03:58The Diamondbacks don't score.
04:00Top of the fifth inning, Victor Barricotto is going to lead off here for the Giants.
04:04Barricotto hits one to left center field.
04:06Toward the gap, sprinting over Troy.
04:08He's not going to catch it.
04:10And he sort of kicks it away from himself.
04:13Rolls toward left field where Kepler scoops it up.
04:16Barricotto is into second with a double.
04:19He really didn't hit it that hard.
04:22And it never even made it to the warning track.
04:24But the way the Diamondbacks had the outfield aligned there, it just was perfectly placed.
04:30It found a hole.
04:31So a leadoff double for the Giants.
04:32So a double for Barricotto.
04:34That's going to bring up Haas, the catcher.
04:36He has a ground ball at first.
04:37Pavin has it and gets to the bag himself.
04:40That's all he was trying to do is have a productive at bat, get Barricotto over to third base.
04:45Here is Cox, the rookie.
04:47Infield in for the D-backs.
04:48Bunts it first base side.
04:49He got it done.
04:50Smith is going to flip home the slide.
04:52He's safe.
04:54Barricotto scores the tying run.
04:56Cox bunted it.
04:57Smith flipped home.
04:59There wasn't even really a tag attempt as Barricotto went sliding on by.
05:03It's one to one.
05:05Perfectly executed.
05:06Squared around early.
05:07That's the number one thing.
05:08It doesn't matter if they know it's coming.
05:09You just have to get the bunt down in the right place.
05:11He laid it down perfectly right down the first baseline.
05:14Barricotto read it on the ground and scored easily.
05:16Like Dave said.
05:18Great play.
05:18And now Jonah Cox with his speed is at first.
05:21He's going to go first motion.
05:22Pitch taken.
05:23Throw high.
05:24And he slides in safely.
05:26So Cox steals second base.
05:27He is showing off some tools tonight with a great catch in center.
05:32A perfect bunt.
05:33And now an immediate steal.
05:35And Chapman scorches this one along the line.
05:38And right long way to go for Corbin who's got an infouled ground.
05:42Cox tagging up and he's in at third.
05:44Aggressive base running by the youngster.
05:46They have a runner at third with two down.
05:48The rise is one for two.
05:51Marte backhands it.
05:53Half shot off the bat.
05:55And he runs out of the inning.
05:56The Giants get the equalizer.
05:58We're in the fifth time at one.
05:59So he stops at third.
06:01And the D-backs have him on the corners now for the top of the order.
06:04Could tell Marte who is one for two.
06:06This game is tied at one.
06:08Marte already with a homer.
06:09Low for ball four.
06:11Bases are loaded.
06:12Malley wanted no part of Marte that bad.
06:15Malley is going to give the ball up.
06:17There's no discussion.
06:18No checking in.
06:19It's going to be Hentges, the left-hander from the Giants' bullpen.
06:22Perdomo's in 217 right-handed, 258 left-handed.
06:26So Tony Vitello wants to turn him around on the other side.
06:28And it's going to bring Perdomo to the plate.
06:31And the base is full of snakes.
06:32Perdomo base hit.
06:34Aranata will score.
06:36Tommy Troy will score.
06:38Here comes Cattell Marte.
06:40He's coming home.
06:41A roll down.
06:42Perdomo clears the bases.
06:44It's Domo time after all.
06:46Great job of working a count in his favor
06:49and looking for some kind of a pitch middle in
06:51that he could do some damage with.
06:53And boy, does he ever.
06:54Rips it down into that left-field corner.
06:56Scoring everybody, including Cattell Marte,
06:59all the way from first base.
07:00You see J.R. House windmilling him home,
07:02and he'll score without a play.
07:04110 miles off the bat of Perdomo, by the way.
07:07And that was going to bring up Corbin Carroll.
07:09Try to add to this 4-1 lead.
07:11And Carroll takes it high ball four.
07:13No challenge coming.
07:14Hentges looking longingly at his catcher,
07:17hoping that he would tap the top of his helmet.
07:19And Hentges has not recorded an ounce
07:21since coming into the game.
07:22He's gone.
07:23Bases clearing, double, and a walk.
07:24And that's going to bring up Gabby.
07:26Still only one out.
07:27Runners go with the throw.
07:29And they got him.
07:32That's a surprise.
07:33That's a gift.
07:34And a nice throw from Eric Haas on that breaking ball.
07:38That rolls away on ball four.
07:40Corbin gets a free 90.
07:41And Gabby gets the base on balls.
07:43We'll see if Tony Vitello wants to go to Brubaker here.
07:46And the wheels will come off for Hentges.
07:47He's yet to retire a batter.
07:49And that's another walk by Hentges.
07:51And I think Tony Vitello has got to make another move here.
07:53So now Brubaker against Gurriel.
07:55First and third, two down.
07:56Hit high in the air.
07:58It's a left set.
08:00Barracotto calling off Jonah Cox.
08:02And he'll make the catch.
08:044-1, number 3.
08:05This is going to bring up Aronado.
08:07He's had a nice day offensively.
08:08A really hard base hit back at the second and then drew the leadoff walk.
08:13Aronado gets it in the air.
08:14This one's hit it from a field.
08:16And there it goes.
08:19Nolan Aronado.
08:20That's his ninth.
08:21And it's 5-1.
08:22Boy, that had to feel good for Nolan.
08:24He has been grinding.
08:26And especially after he made an error earlier in the ballgame that extended an inning.
08:31You know, he wanted to make up for that.
08:33He's 35 years old.
08:35And he is still one of the hardest workers in the Major League.
08:38He never lets up.
08:39And five hits in six games on the road trip.
08:42It's also after all those years in Colorado and now in Arizona.
08:46His 36th home run against the Giants.
08:49That's his most against any opponent.
08:50Tremendous performance by Eduardo Rodriguez.
08:53Erod came in here with the fifth lowest earned run average of any starter in the Major Leagues.
08:58And he only gave up one run tonight.
09:00One strikeout.
09:01No walks.
09:01A lot of fly ball outs.
09:03There was some hard contact.
09:04But, boy, the final line looks terrific.
09:0691 pitches.
09:07Here's Arise.
09:07First pitch to him.
09:08He swings.
09:09Hits a line drive to right.
09:10And Carroll.
09:11Oh, he almost made a sliding catch.
09:13But it ricochets off his leg.
09:14This will be extra bases.
09:15Arise goes to second.
09:17Gilbert gets to third.
09:18T-backs were just moments away from an inning-ending double play.
09:22And instead, there's now two in scoring position for Casey Schmidt.
09:27And Schmidt drives one to centerfield.
09:30Going back on it, Troy.
09:31He'll catch it.
09:32Tagging from third, Gilbert.
09:34He scores.
09:35Tagging from second and going to third, Arise.
09:37It's a sacrifice fly.
09:38And it's five to two, Diamondbacks.
09:41With Devers coming up, I think we're going to get a pitching change.
09:44It'll be Brandon Garcia against Rafi Devers.
09:46Left on left.
09:48Brandon Garcia goes right at him and got him on the sweeper.
09:52And here is the closer, Paul Seawall.
09:5432 appearances and 18 saves.
09:56He'll face Elliott Ramos trying to protect a five to two Diamondback lead.
10:00Here's a swing and a drive out towards left center field by Ramos.
10:04And deep and gone!
10:06Elliott Ramos went down to get one.
10:09And golfed it out.
10:11His fifth home run of the year.
10:13And the Giants are down by two, five to three.
10:17Well, that changes everything.
10:18Now you're a bloop and a blast away from tying this thing up.
10:21And you're right.
10:22He went down to get a slider down the way.
10:25Hooked it to left center field.
10:26That was pretty impressive.
10:28Eldridge in at second.
10:29There's one away.
10:29And we're going to see another pinch hitter.
10:32This is Drew Cavanaugh.
10:34He's only had seven plate appearances.
10:36And so far, one for six.
10:38And a base hit.
10:41They'll wave in.
10:43Eldridge.
10:44Cavanaugh makes it a 5-4 game.
10:48And the kid keeps on looking impressive at the plate.
10:52It wasn't a home run, but it was a low line drive.
10:55And he represents the tying run on base.
10:58Now it's Drew Gilbert, who pinch hit in the eighth inning, walked and scored.
11:01Top of the order goes up next with Chapman, followed by a rise, and then Schmidt.
11:06He had to get it out here.
11:07Hopped it way up high.
11:09Vargas along the line at first.
11:12He makes the catch-and-foul territory, and the Giants are down to their final out.
11:16It's a big out to get right there.
11:18Well, here you go.
11:19Tying run at first.
11:20Go ahead, run at the plate.
11:21Matt Chapman versus Paul Seawalt.
11:23Two veterans, played a lot of big games, a lot of crunch time, ninth innings, and they find themselves in
11:30one with a showdown.
11:32Popped up.
11:34Vargas calling everybody off.
11:35And Seawalt hands on.
11:37This is the first time in franchise history the Diamondbacks have started a season 7-0 against any opponent.
11:46They are 7-for-7 against the Giants this year, and they're back to 500.
