00:03all right um we're obviously going to open today uh with some thoughts on our boy kenny um
00:12uh yesterday was a very tough day here at the station as uh we lost a contributing member to
00:18this show and many other shows uh as he did weekend work and obviously was on with mike
00:24and rico after us uh but he answered phones for us and contributed to our show on the air and
00:30off
00:31and um people been asking about him and i you know it's um you know we had a medical issue
00:40and
00:40we were monitoring and texted him and um obviously a lot of people cared about kenny and it sucked to
00:48see texts coming in and people posting and asking can you please just give us an update what's
00:53happened to kenny what's happened to kenny and you know he kept it private as you know anybody would
01:00want and um to find out that he'd actually passed was shocking and um nothing other we can say that
01:08we love our our companion here at the station and um part of this this 97-1 team and uh
01:16he will be
01:17missed and um he was just getting started like where he is in life he was just getting started
01:24yeah it's it's brutal and 32 years old and um i was told after the show and right literally uh
01:37seconds
01:37before uh mike and and rico and david went on the air to talk about it so i i was
01:44completely
01:46shocked by it you know we knew that there was something something was up you know like you
01:49said it was some medical event about three weeks ago or so and because yeah all right you know and
01:54yeah he should be okay and we think we didn't really know there wasn't really any update and and and
02:01it
02:01was uh you know his one day turned a two two turned into a week i'm like well is he
02:05coming back well
02:06he's out all next week too okay all right and you know and then to hear that he passed away
02:14was
02:16it was a complete shock and and then when talking to mike and rico and and and and and jimmy
02:23and other
02:23people and then they said yeah well things took a turn um over the last couple days and when that
02:28happens you're like oh no because it wasn't good to begin with so it's it's sad as hell he was
02:36i mean as passionate a hockey fan as i've met um we've had a couple of those here through the
02:41radio
02:41station but kenny was the latest uh and maybe the greatest of them and and he it wasn't just the
02:48red wings i mean he was an nhl savant and we when trade deadline came around we're like uh kenny
02:53you
02:54know uh give an opinion on these players and and you know he was what i love about kenny is
03:00that he had
03:02a very well crafted opinion and it wasn't just fly off the handle i'm pissed i want pun i want
03:12you
03:12know some damages i want my my pound of flesh right here it was no let me think about this
03:17let me think
03:18what's best in this situation and then i will present it to you and he did it in a way
03:22that was
03:23was great i mean he when he would crack open the microphone we would ask him to talk with us
03:27and be
03:27part of the show he always had something to say he didn't stammer through it it was articulate
03:35and that's that's who he was and you know it wasn't just of course he wasn't just limited to
03:40hockey he was a huge georgia football fan and we like all of us here we all love all sports
03:44and
03:44you know for him that he loved participating in the are you going to eat that portion of the show
03:50what about kenny you know you're you talking about eating stuff out of his beard and you know and
03:56i mean there are two guys here at the station aside from myself who really like hot dogs evan is
04:02one
04:04but kenny loved himself from some hot dogs i mean the fact that he had a hot dog roller in
04:09the house
04:10and we had a you know a standing conversation hey is the hot dog roller still in the living room
04:15yes it is
04:15how long is that going to stay there we're going to find out you know he was uh he was
04:20a great guy
04:21um he's going to be sorely missed he every once in a while would come up with something really funny
04:28but most of the time when he talked he just came up something insightful when we crack open the
04:32microphone so he's he's definitely going to be missed it's it's weird no offense to corbin looking
04:38behind the glass here great to have him but you know not to see that the big beard it's been
04:44weird for
04:44three weeks and it's going to be weird for for the next who knows how long okay yeah i mean
04:51most
04:51people are going to know him through sports but i like when the stuff like this happens first this
04:54is so surreal to even having this topic or whatever to start to show like this i can't i mean
04:59it's so
05:00sudden so sad 32 years old kenny had so much more life to live obviously like you mentioned just
05:07recently got married he didn't go through all the we brought up a topic with kenny being married
05:12remember with the whole ring thing and me and kenny would laugh all the time because the first
05:16guy offered opinion was gator and so me and kenny would be like that's right of course gator offered
05:19up the first opinion but like to me like he had so much more like life in general live being
05:24married
05:24and all that stuff and like i'll bring up the non-sport stuff because that's how i remember kenny is
05:29we had a very similar sense of humor he would help me write some of the tub of pretzel questions
05:35and the best ones never make it into the tub of pretzels the stuff we say back here is
05:40insane ridiculous not for the air not pc and we laughed all the time about the stuff we would
05:46talk about the questions i would ask him he would ask me the things we talk to each other about
05:50back
05:50here were some of the best shows that no one ever heard you know we behind the glass guys are
05:56different than on the air guys and we know this right like we have a different relationship because
06:00we're we're literally talking about things that can't go on the air some a lot of times and so i
06:05mean
06:06that's when you really get to know a person when the mics are off and uh it's it's crazy that
06:12we're talking like this and like i said it's that's what i enjoyed most about with kenny like
06:18i could say anything to him honestly i would not offend him and he would not offend me and we
06:21knew
06:21that about each other so well there is as far as here at the station there are challenges with working
06:30with everybody and you know with with me i'm always looking for quick turnaround i'm always
06:36looking for hey press conference right now uh you know we just saw that colton pouncey tweeted dan
06:42campbell said this can you get that sound kenny has to go get the sound and he's got to get
06:48it
06:48turned around quickly because i want to get it on the air quickly and i i'm always asking it was
06:55always
06:55asking we got to get this we got to get that when you're on from 10 to 2 and there's
07:00stuff going on
07:00somebody posts on twitter here's steven a talking about lebron to the pistons or something or whatever
07:06it is kenny go get this kenny we need this we need this by in the next five minutes so
07:11we can i can tease
07:12it going into the break we'll have it next segment like we're trying constantly doing that and i was
07:17constantly sending kenny on these you know these runs to get sound yeah um people have no idea how
07:27difficult it is to screen calls during who's on top and we do who's on top when we do that
07:35segment we
07:35have a list of usually 10 things top 10 fast food french fries whatever it might be kenny has to
07:42pay
07:42attention had to pay attention to whatever your answers were and then the calls that came in
07:48everybody that made the air had to have a different answer right so half the calls were yep somebody's
07:56said mcdonald's fries yep somebody's already said arby's curly fries yep yep yep and he had to
08:01constantly be paying attention to what the callers were saying and sift through and oh by the way i'm
08:06like we need them on the air now this has to happen fast and kenny handled it and you know
08:13we're
08:14demanding and then the legendary the truth is a legendary hot dog roller story this started i think
08:20it started during the nhl playoffs with him telling us he had a hot dog roller in his living room
08:28next to his couch okay
08:32he gets his hot dog roller he's eating hot dogs while watching the nhl playoffs
08:39kenny then gets engaged and this becomes a bit of a journey what's going to happen with the hot dog
08:47right how is kenny going to negotiate the hot dog roller as someone else is welcomed into the home
08:57and kenny the negotiations landed the hot dog roller back in the kitchen but it was eventually
09:04but yeah but it it survived for quite a lot yep and again his hockey knowledge has been um talked
09:11about on the air we've you know we leaned on kenny for a lot of stuff and um you know
09:17he it's just it's
09:19just hard to believe we lost we lost pat we lost jamie lost bigby i lost my sister i lost
09:24a cousin
09:25like it just father yeah you're i mean that dude right there's a lot how you know this is
09:32unfortunately this is life yes this is life and but you shouldn't see somebody who's 32 no
09:41yeah that's leave this early 32 just married our thoughts and prayers are with his family
09:48his wife jen we are we are going to i mean we're going to try to get back to the
09:53show i will tell you
09:55i mean it's obviously tough on us and it's tough the thing that i discovered yesterday is how tough it
10:00is on the audience too kenny had carved his niche here at the station we have a lot of talented
10:08talented
10:08people here that don't get the credit that they deserve and we try to make sure that we acknowledge
10:15um what the people behind the glass do uh kang is incredibly valuable here and kenny was as well
10:23and um show's not going to be the same without him and we just we just really feel terrible today
10:32and
10:32may he rest in peace he probably willed the uh the cosa trade
10:38he probably probably willed the trade steve it's been trading sebastian cosa for the uh 23rd overall
10:45pick uh i there's so many reasons to feel awful and just you know one kind of comedically on the
10:51top
10:51of that is i mean there was nobody who was more in tune to what was going to happen in
10:56larkin's
10:57situation and kenny no you know and when it first broke that's kind of about the time that
11:02you know we we we stopped seeing kenny come around here so i i feel awful the whole way around
11:08it sucks i do want to speak for kenny on one thing um he hated who's on top just i
11:14just want to let
11:17you know that i feel comfortable saying this kenny i think would be like go for it ken say it
11:21hated
11:22who's on top who's on top he's a lot of calls man and i always say the same thing you
11:27got to get
11:28him on the air fast man we got to get through these and he has to say to everyone already

11:32said already been said already been said and i'm sitting there going spinning my finger going come
11:36on let's go he would come in this segment has to move before we would start the segment you would
11:40ask me during a commercial break okay i need your your two picks so that we can you know because
11:44he's ready i will tell you that and then kenny would come into the studio with this exasperated
11:49look and go all right what are you saying what are your two picks it's like ecuador and bolivia kenny
12:00great got it and he'd always have a list with him too but anyway uh kenny cot rest in peace
