Episode 3 analyst Matt Dalgleish gives a market update.
Transcript
00:00Just in the last few days, I've seen the South Korean safeguard hit 90% utilised.
00:04In July, we should see that safeguard triggered,
00:07and that'll mean our tariff for beef exports goes from 5% to 24%.
00:12Not long ago, we saw the Chinese safeguard triggered, so that's now 55%.
00:16But when we look at the cattle price situation globally,
00:20Australian pricing is still about 43% below the US.
00:23So that's going to keep our product still fairly competitive,
00:26despite the tariff situation, and there's other markets,
00:30the US demand is going to remain strong through the year.
00:32Japan's still pretty steady.
00:34So broadly speaking, we shouldn't have too much of an impact to cattle prices domestically,
00:38given how the season's playing out so far.
00:41Producers should be reasonably insulated from some of these issues
00:44with Chinese and South Korean demand.
00:47See you when you go.
