00:00Dead or Alive 6 last round is here.
00:02It is a definitive like version of Dead or Alive 6,
00:06a now seven year old game.
00:08Ben, you've been playing it.
00:11What's the deal with this thing?
00:12I have.
00:13I'm a big Dead or Alive fan,
00:14so I was very excited for the chance for 6 to kind of come back
00:17and maybe end some of the stuff that was missing from it before.
00:20A lot of people are hoping for like rollback netcode
00:23or the tag mode to come back, which is kind of an odd omission
00:27and all through all of the like marketing and lead up for this
00:30has kind of been like, we got like stage lighting
00:33and we've got outfits and stuff,
00:35but kind of not a lot of the stuff that we would have hoped.
00:39It was kind of announced like earlier this year
00:40and it's not been too long,
00:42but I think people are just really excited
00:44for a Dead or Alive thing to be happening.
00:46We're getting the new game too,
00:48but this should be a thing that would hold us over.
00:50But I feel like, I don't know if it's worth it.
00:54So if you already own Dead or Alive 6,
00:57is there value in spending $40
01:00on this new version?
01:02I in its current state, no, I don't think so.
01:06Okay.
01:07And it hurts to say that because I want this to do.
01:09I want DOA to do well, but it's very much
01:12just the original game with, I think, like slightly better,
01:16like graphics maybe.
01:19But the big thing they're kind of putting out
01:21is they've got this Oboro mode for stages.
01:23That's just redone lighting,
01:25but it's only on one stage currently.
01:29And that feels kind of odd.
01:31It also, it doesn't specify what this is,
01:35but it says that it will automatically be turned off online
01:38if specifications are not met.
01:41So you could be playing with your friends
01:42and you don't even get to enjoy this other lighting,
01:45depending on what that is.
01:46But that's, that's what, there's no new stages.
01:49Uh, there's, there's no, nothing else going on.
01:53And I, I can't even tell the difference.
01:55I reinstalled the original game
01:57because it had been so long since I played
01:58to like check it out.
02:00And they look almost similar to me,
02:03like maybe a little bit nicer,
02:04like reflections in the water or whatever.
02:06But, uh, it seems like a weird choice
02:08to also do it on this stage.
02:10Cause six has one of the coolest stages
02:12in the like series in the, uh,
02:15it's called unforgettable,
02:16but it's like a museum with a whole bunch
02:18of different levels from the older games
02:19and they really like it.
02:20But I just want to shout that out.
02:21And what's curious why I didn't go with that one,
02:23but yeah, uh, almost nothing going on with that at all.
02:29Um, and maybe it's a bit brighter, but yeah,
02:33but it's, it's unfortunate.
02:36Uh, they said they're going to be adding them later on,
02:38like doing more stages.
02:40So I guess we'll wait to see how that works out.
02:42Interesting.
02:43So they, they're promising updates in the future,
02:46but at release, it's pretty minimal is what you're saying.
02:51It's just the one stage.
02:53Is, is that kind of the same with like,
02:56are there new characters?
02:57Are there new, like, what else is,
02:58is there for returning players?
03:00So if you are a person who is playing Dead or Alive 6
03:03and had gotten at least all of the character DLCs,
03:06you're actually going to be playing with less characters.
03:08Maya and Kula are both being taken out of the game
03:12and you have to rebuy them.
03:14And the new version, even if you had them before,
03:17along with all of their costumes, I'm assuming.
03:21Why? Why are they doing that?
03:22The only thing I can think of is maybe like a licensing thing,
03:25but it's a very weird, like, they actually detailed,
03:28I think earlier today, like, what exactly all transfers over.
03:32And they specifically have to make notes for saying that
03:34both Maya and Kula and, and all of that stuff don't move over.
03:38Um, and they announced as like a, like,
03:41they thought this would be a, like an interesting thing to do
03:44to put out the same trailer they did seven years ago
03:46when they announced the two characters, uh, earlier this year
03:50to be like, oh, guess what?
03:51You get to buy them again.
03:52Get it.
03:53Please get excited for buying these characters again.
03:55You've already got it.
03:56That's crazy.
03:57Uh, but that brings up an interesting point, which was, uh,
04:01Dead or Alive 6 is pretty notorious for like the amount of DLC it had, right?
04:06You could spend a lot of money.
04:08I, as a consumer, I would assume if I'm buying some sort of thing
04:13called like that, like a, a new version with like a nice fancy title
04:17that it is some sort of, it would, it would offer like a complete package.
04:21Does this include a good amount of that DLC or like,
04:25kind of like, what are you expecting to get there?
04:27They make specific notes about how your previous DLC costumes
04:31will transfer over, which makes me think that you might have to buy them again.
04:36The store isn't live for last round currently.
04:39So I couldn't look at like even how much Meyer Kula
04:42or any of the other stuff might be up would cost, uh, or if it's there.
04:47But I, I'm guessing that it doesn't even include all of those by default,
04:51which seems like an odd thing to just be like, cool, ultimate catch up version of the game.
04:56We're redoing.
04:57Here's all the current characters.
04:59Here's all the current costumes.
05:00Here's all this stuff here.
05:02Go for it.
05:04But they just don't, I think.
05:07But yeah, uh, it's, it's very odd.
05:10I'm, I'm thinking about, I think Street Fighter V when it did its, uh,
05:13big championship edition actually made a big point to be like,
05:16here's all the costumes before, uh, included inside of this new version of the game.
05:22And going forward, you'd get whatever's new, but yeah.
05:25Yeah.
05:25It's, it seems like an odd choice.
05:27I think the fact that there is just like confusion around what you're even getting
05:30is in itself, like a problem like that.
05:33It should be this like very crystal clear thing.
05:35Uh, to, to that point, uh, we were talking earlier about like,
05:40they're promising net, uh, rollback net code for this game.
05:43They specifically were, we're trying like not to say anything about it.
05:47So it's been a big question leading up to this and.
05:51Okay.
05:52So there's been a big question about if rollback net code is in this game.
05:57They have been cagey.
05:58They've been unclear about it.
06:00To your understanding from what you've checked out,
06:04it doesn't seem like it's in there or you can't tell.
06:07There's no like, like specific like notation or thing in the options or anything
06:11that like would lead me to believe it.
06:13I haven't been able to get like into a match because it's,
06:16it's pre-release and there are like six people on the leaderboards currently.
06:20Um, but there's also no cross play, which they have said,
06:25which I feel like if you're putting out any fighting game,
06:29like repackaged version or new fighting game or anything,
06:32if you don't have like rollback or,
06:34or cross play also is like maybe an optional thing.
06:36Maybe not, but like,
06:38it's a very good way to kind of shoot yourself in the foot.
06:40Um, yeah.
06:42Um, I know we are reaching out to the devs about if like a rollback is,
06:48is in the game.
06:48So if we get a response from them,
06:50we'll have the editor include it here.
06:52Um, but I agree with you.
06:54We're like in, in,
06:55if you're offering me a modern version of a game,
06:59like for, for $40,
07:03the least I could expect is that it will have these,
07:06these features that are kind of like pretty ubiquitous and standard for fighting games,
07:10especially if your goal,
07:12like I imagine the point of,
07:14of this release is to sort of like re drum up a community around dead or alive,
07:21uh,
07:22in anticipation for the new one that they're working on.
07:25Right.
07:25So it's like,
07:26okay,
07:26let's bring back six.
07:28Let's,
07:28let's start rebuilding that community around this game.
07:31Uh,
07:32so you want to make it as like accessible and easy to jump in as possible,
07:35which means it should have rollback.
07:38It should have a cross play.
07:41It should have all the stuff in it.
07:44It should like,
07:46you know,
07:47you want to make it,
07:48um,
07:48as enticing as possible.
07:50My question then is like,
07:52if you're someone who's never played dead or alive,
07:55is,
07:56is this still like appealing or is it still feel like a,
07:59Hey,
07:59maybe you should wait a little bit.
08:00I think in,
08:01in its current state,
08:02this,
08:03this version of six.
08:04And I,
08:04I know that it,
08:05the original one's been delisted already while we're,
08:07we've already done the video.
08:09Yeah.
08:10Just to take it away,
08:11at least on steam.
08:12I think it's still,
08:13I don't know about,
08:13about the,
08:14the other places,
08:15but they're,
08:15uh,
08:16they're promising like down the road,
08:18new characters and new costumes.
08:20So like,
08:21maybe it'll be like a better package down the road,
08:24but also like thinking about previous DLC stuff,
08:27like,
08:27are we going to be paying whatever amount for the extra characters?
08:30And are we going to have like the thousand dollar season pass costume catalogs again?
08:37Uh,
08:38how's that going to plan out?
08:40Because whatever this like $40 version is,
08:42even if it goes on sale,
08:43might end up being a much more expensive thing down the road.
08:45If you're like,
08:45I want to try out the new characters or I want to do all of that,
08:49but it's,
08:49uh,
08:50yeah,
08:51yeah,
08:52I,
08:52I think it might be,
08:53might be better to pick up later on,
08:55unless you're like diehard dead or alive.
08:57You want to play whatever the newest versions,
08:59I can't speak for like balance changes.
09:01So I don't know if there's any sort of like tournament side of this,
09:03where it's the most viable,
09:05or if people are even going to acknowledge it or anything like that.
09:07But,
09:08um,
09:09yeah,
09:10it's,
09:10it's,
09:10it's a very strange kind of thing.
09:13Uh,
09:14there are some kind of good things though.
09:15There's,
09:16there's one,
09:16one big change that they made to the game that might entice people,
09:20I guess.
09:21Uh,
09:21six especially was,
09:22uh,
09:23an interesting game in that the costume unlocks were like stupidly hard to actually do.
09:29She had to like get like random drops for blueprints for specific outfits that would randomly choose which one you
09:37were getting.
09:37And then once you got enough blueprints for them,
09:40you'd have to spend the Indian currency on them to actually unlock them.
09:43But now they're,
09:44they're changing the requirements that I have an example here.
09:47One of Kasumi's costumes,
09:48uh,
09:49used to be a thousand blueprint pieces and it's been bumped down to a hundred.
09:54Uh,
09:55and then there's another costume she had where in the original version,
09:59it costed 20,000 currency and now it only costs 1,000.
10:03So like,
10:04it's all much more attainable.
10:06And just in the time that it's been playing,
10:07it seems like that stuff flows in a lot more regularly and easily too.
10:12So maybe they're like trying to let you unlock things more,
10:15but it's,
10:17it's kind of the only really big difference I've,
10:20I've noticed in terms of just the game and the content.
10:23And,
10:23uh,
10:24also other than that,
10:26the,
10:26the like saving it,
10:28it transfers all your save data over and it causes some weird stuff with
10:31achievements where like,
10:34uh,
10:34I had like all the combo stuff done for a certain character.
10:37I just had to do one of them to unlock the achievement for doing all of them.
10:40Uh,
10:41that wasn't too bad.
10:42The only weird one really,
10:43I think is for quest mode.
10:45You have to like,
10:47it says I finished all of them,
10:49but I don't think I have any of the rewards for it because they're already checked off.
10:55Oh,
10:55but maybe because of the unlocking system being much more forgiving,
10:59maybe it's not that much of a problem.
11:00Cause the big thing,
11:01at least I think used to be that you get more costume parts from doing those.
11:04And that's kind of what drove me to do them before.
11:06But,
11:07uh,
11:08I think those are kind of the only good.
11:11I,
11:11it added a photo mode.
11:14That's take pictures of your favorite characters doing their,
11:17your favorite moves on them.
11:18It's sometimes they work.
11:20Sometimes they don't,
11:21uh,
11:21which is the fun part.
11:23Um,
11:24yeah.
11:25Oh,
11:25okay.
11:26Well,
11:26I'm going to be honest.
11:27It's kind of a bummer.
11:29Uh,
11:29I liked that or alive.
11:30Uh,
11:31I think that or alive is cool and,
11:33and interesting and,
11:34and like is should be,
11:37um,
11:39should be up there with other fighting games in terms of like,
11:42you know,
11:42uh,
11:42it's,
11:43it's releases and the way it's,
11:44it,
11:44it deserves better.
11:46I think that or alive does deserve better as a fighting game,
11:48but,
11:49um,
11:51man,
11:51the way they have treated six over the years has been rough.
11:56And I was kind of hoping that this would be like a fresh start for six.
12:00Uh,
12:01so to hear that it's kind of started on this really rocky footing is.
12:05Yeah.
12:05And I mean,
12:06there's always hope for maybe updates down the road to fix stuff.
12:09Like I said,
12:09we got maybe new characters and stuff,
12:11but like,
12:11yeah,
12:11it's,
12:12it's not something I would recommend to people right now,
12:15unless they really,
12:15really wanted to like get into it.
12:17And they were like,
12:18I want to play six.
12:19Uh,
12:19there is like a free to play,
12:21version of it.
12:22So I think they still have the core fighters thing,
12:24but you only get access to like four or five characters.
12:27But,
12:27um,
12:27and I think they're also still doing,
12:28right.
12:28You can buy like individual ones.
12:30So if you just want to buy your main,
12:31you can do that,
12:31but who wants to play a fighting game and not have all the characters again,
12:36check it out later,
12:37maybe.
12:37But yeah,
12:38I,
12:38I feel like it's,
12:40it's not,
12:40not the best way to bring this out is that they could have done.
12:44And yeah,
12:47I'm excited for what they're doing with the new one,
12:49I guess.
12:49And maybe we'll hear more about that.
12:51Uh,
12:51cause Evo's this weekend and they have a special showcase thing for it,
12:54but bring,
12:57bring DOA back and make it,
12:58make it a little bit better than this.
13:04I can agree with that.
13:06No,
13:06thank you.
13:07Thanks for joining me.
13:08Uh,
13:08and for all things dead or alive fighting games,
13:11video games and more.
13:12Check it out.
