“[God] causes his sun to rise on the evil and the good, and sends rain on the righteous and on the unrighteous.” Matthew 5:45

Jesus is saying: God’s basic blessings — sunlight, rain, life itself — are poured out equally on everyone. The serial cheater gets the same sunrise as the saint. The corrupt politician gets the same rain that waters the honest farmer’s crops. No cosmic scoreboard flashing “deserved” or “undeserved.” Just pure, impartial goodness.

This verse comes right after Jesus commands us to love our enemies and pray for those who persecute us.

His logic is crystal clear: if God Himself doesn’t withhold basic blessings from the wicked, then we have no right to withhold love from ours.

In 2026 this hits especially hard.
We live in a world obsessed with “deserving” — likes, success, justice, even weather in the form of climate blame.

We want karma to be instant and visible. Jesus says God doesn’t operate that way. His kindness is not a reward system; it’s His nature.

Bottom line:
This verse doesn’t mean evil doesn’t matter.
It means God’s love is bigger than our scorecard, bigger than darkness or evil.

Punishment and Justice:
Justice not found on this earth will be found and executed in the next life.
But we need to focus on our individual nature, are we good, or not?

Because on judgment day, it is our very nature that God will see above all else.

Jesus and the Atonement:
On Judgment Day, Jesus our Messiah has already paid for all our sins and transgressions in life. By being recognized as his, he paves the way for us to return clean. But are you living as a follower of Christ? Has your nature evolved into one similar to Jesus Christ?
