06:21quite a few teams slowing down на уровне развития в следующем году.
06:26Давайте посмотрим где мы находимся,
06:27когда мы находимся к нам,
06:30и мы узнаем, если мы будем против,
06:31или если мы будем делать еще один путь.
06:36Мы expect that upgrade battle
06:38продолжит в целом, но, Лауренц,
06:42до этого момента, мы в Роунд-8.
06:44Кто сделал лучший в этом рейке?
06:46Кто победил, что-либо?
06:48It does feel like it's been yay-yowing, doesn't it, in terms of performance?
06:51McLaren brought that great upgrade package to Miami,
06:53and then they were nowhere really in Canada.
06:55I think Ferrari are probably the leaders there.
06:56They had those innovations that we saw in Bahrain testing.
06:59Then every time they brought a package, including that last massive package they brought to Spain,
07:03they've made that step.
07:04It's too early to know what that power unit's doing around here.
07:07But the early signs talking to the team are it's doing what they wanted it to do after FP1.
07:11So I think they're kind of leading that race from the in-season battle.
07:13And Juan, with Red Bull, they were only a little over two-tenths off,
07:16not happy with the car, some issues.
07:18Is that coming from the upgrade, or is that just more a function of a short lap, means tight gaps?
07:22So the problem is when you come with an upgrade, the tendencies of the car change.
07:27What the car wants and the behavior changes.
07:29You might find that you have more stability in the entry,
07:32but in the middle of the corner it's behaving different.
07:34And so you need to start adapting and change how you run the car,
07:37how you set up the car, the ride, everything.
07:39And fine-tuning all that and maximizing is where it becomes very difficult.
07:43Very difficult, indeed.
07:44That is the name of the game, though.
07:45Again, if it was easy, everybody would do it.
07:48We have FP2 coming up here, but we still have more analysis coming from right here in the paddock.
07:52Don't go anywhere.
07:56And for everybody watching on F1 TV, here's another interview from the press conference
08:01with Williams team principal James Vowles on their weekend coming up.
08:06I'm impressed by how competitive the field is now.
08:10If you go and look at the V-carb, the rate they're developing, Audi, the rate they're developing,
08:14it's good to see we have a sport where we have strong entities that are moving forward.
08:17Our goal is simply, for the time being this year, to be ahead of all of that.
08:21And I think it's realistic in the development rate we've got.
08:23But it will go past the summer break.
08:25To Laurel's point, I don't think many people will be adding the amount of performance we're planning to towards that
08:32period.
08:32Our job in all of this, irrespective of Alex and Carlos, but for the wider picture,
08:37is to develop this car and prove to ourselves that we have the capability to move significantly forward relative to
08:43the field.
08:43Well, that's it. That is the goal, irrespective.
08:46And being transparent about it, all they're looking for is exactly the same output that we need to achieve in
08:50that point.
08:51Are we putting performance on the table, delivering it, moving on and keeping stepping that way?
08:56And have we demonstrated sufficiently that the troubles that we had during the winter are behind us?
09:00And on that one, I'm very confident it won't ever happen again.
09:02So that's why I sit here calm and comforted as a result of everything.
09:07And if you don't know my language for it, Carlos spoke about it yesterday.
09:09Alex spoke about it, I think, in the press conference last week.
09:11They're comfortable with where they are.
09:12They want to be on this journey with us.
09:14We need to make a few steps.
09:18Lawrence, he says the drivers are comfortable where they are.
09:21Do you buy it?
09:22I think I'll buy it if the drivers see some progress from the team and those upgrades that Jane was
09:27just talking about.
09:27But they've got to show some progress to hope that they can make that step and keep them there.
09:31If not, they're going to have to be looking for rides elsewhere.
09:38FP2 just around the corner here in Austria.
09:40We are joined now in the paddock by one of the drivers that got to enjoy a little bit of
09:44track time this morning in FP1.
09:46Jack Crawford, thanks so much for joining us.
09:48Yeah, thanks for having me on this very hot day in Austria.
09:51It's not cold in pit lane.
09:52What were the temperatures like out on the racetrack?
09:54Was it making it more difficult for you guys?
09:57Yeah, for the drivers, it was fine.
09:59We have the cool vests and everything, which honestly makes it a lot better.
10:03It makes it pretty easy.
10:05But the tires, they really feel it.
10:08And here having the C5 tire as a soft tire, it just kills the surface of the tire.
10:14Do you really feel that then?
10:16Do you feel like it's sort of too hot and out of the window of the tire specifications that we've
10:22got here?
10:22Do you think that's going to be a factor in the Grand Prix?
10:25Yeah, it's just it doesn't let you make any mistake.
10:28Any slip on the tire, any rear slip especially, if you have a little rear lockup on entry,
10:36your traction is completely dead after that.
10:39And if you have a slip exit three, you know you're going to slip exit four.
10:43So you really need to be gentle with the tires, even in qualifying.
10:47So it's very exciting.
10:49So one of the questions I have is how much preparation you do for a day like this?
10:53For example, like people wonder is like, do you just come in and jump in?
10:56Or how much preparation behind this you come when you know you're going to do a day like here in
11:00Austria?
11:01Yeah, normally in the past, I would have done, you know, a day specifically for this.
11:06But I drive so much in the simulator.
11:09I've already done, you know, 200 laps, 250 laps of just the normal vent prep that I felt I didn't
11:16need anything specific.
11:19So that was kind of my preparation was just doing all the preparation work for the team.
11:24And then coming here and jumping in with all that knowledge.
11:29Jack, this is obviously your second session of the year.
11:31You had that go in Japan.
11:32I know the team aren't upgrading the car, but you can refine the package.
11:35Did it feel any different when you got out there?
11:38No, it felt pretty much the same.
11:40No more vibrations, which is great.
11:43But, yeah, car hasn't changed much.
11:47You know, this is the package we have for the moment, for the next few races until we upgrade the
11:54car.
11:55So, yeah, just have to deal with it.
11:57So I have a question.
11:58Sorry.
11:59So you do so much simulator work.
12:02Can you give us a peek of how much better is that upgrade coming in a couple of races?
12:06Are you not allowed to say that?
12:07I don't think I'm allowed to say that.
12:09But it's giving you a smile.
12:11I mean, it'll be better.
12:12I mean, it can get worse, can it?
12:14Don't say that.
12:15Don't jinx it.
12:16You never know.
12:17Don't jinx it.
12:18It'll be better.
12:19It'll be better.
12:20What do you focus on, though, now, Jack?
12:23Because you've got this kind of line in the sand into the future.
12:25You know that, effectively, a B-spec's coming, isn't it, really, of the car.
12:30But you're out there.
12:31You've been put in the car as a test driver.
12:34What actually are your goals, then, for a session like this morning?
12:40I think, you know, the team wants to make sure that I'm ready and prepared.
12:44So, you know, a lot of it was, you know, obviously having not much experience in the car.
12:49OK, I've done a test day in an FP1.
12:52So it's about you, then, this session?
12:54Yeah, it's about, you know, getting up to speed.
12:57And, you know, I was able to do that pretty well today, I thought.
13:01So I feel like I've passed, you know, that test.
13:03And, of course, it's about getting as many laps as possible, as much experience as possible
13:08on all different kinds of tracks.
13:12So, yeah, mainly, I think, mainly for me.
13:14Of course, we are trying some things that, you know, we can take in the weekend.
13:17But we know, of course, those little things are not going to make a huge difference for us.
13:21Jack, real quick, you've done your FP1 session now.
13:23That was the big part.
13:24What are the responsibilities for you now for the rest of the weekend?
13:28Not too much.
13:30You've got to kind of relax a bit.
13:31Yeah, talking to you.
13:32But, yeah, I'll try to, obviously, help out a bit as much as I can.
13:37And based on my track experience in FP1, you know, have a sit down with some of the engineers
13:42and talk about, you know, what, you know, maybe Lance was feeling or Fernando was feeling on track.
13:47So just try to help out a little bit and maximize performance.
13:50Good.
13:50Well, we thank you so much for coming on.
13:52We'll let you get back to that work.
13:54And enjoy the rest of the weekend.
13:56All right.
13:56Thank you very much.
13:57All right, guys, that is all we have for your pre-practice show here in FP2.
14:02Soon the cars will take back to the racetrack.
14:04The temperatures continue to rise.
14:06It's going to continue to stress these tires, stress these race cars, and stress these drivers.
14:11We'll see where the lineup stacks up after this.
14:14But for now, let's head up to the boys in the booth, Alex Jakes and Julian Palmer for Practice 2.
14:38We'll see you next time.
15:15Hello again, everyone.
15:16It is the Austrian Grand Prix weekend.
15:18And we're continuing it right now with second practice as our journey across the globe
15:24to crown a champion team and driver continues this round eight of the season in Spielberg.
15:33And it is a circuit of elevation, of heavy braking, and plenty of action in the first hour that we
15:39saw.
15:394.3 kilometers, 2.6 miles, and just the 63 elevation meters.
15:48Jackie Hicks, the first winner in 1970.
15:51Max Verstappen with the most.
15:52And our most recent, Lando Norris, in a brilliant battle of the most.
15:57A year ago, in 2026, it is the C5, the C4, and the C3 tire.
16:04And these are your live pictures of a storied venue.
16:09Really tricky for the drivers earlier on.
16:12We'll be fascinated to see whether they can progress the feel and the grip of their magnificent machines
16:17as we move in to the second hour of practice of the weekend in the company with me, Alex Shakes,
16:22and Jolyon Palmer alongside.
16:25Plenty of lock-ups for us in FP1.
16:28Yeah, lots of moments.
16:30None too big out there, but the braking zones for turns one and three were particularly challenging.
16:36We saw a brush of the gravel from Pierre Gasly at the downhill braking zone for turn four as well.
16:42So, yeah, a lot of drivers struggling with the feel of the brakes,
16:45as well as just the outright performance of them.
16:48Then you've got to get through the second half of the lap as well, which is full of fast corners.
16:52And we heard a few drivers complaining about the balance as well.
16:55The soft tyres were used pretty much across the board earlier on,
16:59and they are not finding it easy on them in this level of temperature.
17:04We're expecting them to use it again later on with qualifying simulations for FP2,
17:08so we will see if they've learned over lunchtime.
17:11The State of the World Championship sees Kimi Antonelli on 156 points,
17:15Lewis Hamilton on 115, George Russell on 106 points on the board.
17:21Not everyone down in that pit lane will be hoping for smooth sailing,
17:25not least the drivers that had to sit out the opening session.
17:28An opening session topped by Kimi Antonelli,
17:31the young Italian driver with a 107.796,
17:37four hundredths of a second ahead of teammate George Russell.
17:40For the first time this weekend, we will welcome Charles Leclerc to the racetrack.
17:44After a difficult run of events, not having the overall balance in Montreal,
17:51the track he's never fully enjoyed, the difficulty, the brake issues in Monaco,
17:56and the qualifying crash in Barcelona that put him on the back foot as his teammate claimed the win.
18:02And whilst Kimi Antonelli was breaking down, so was the power steering for Charles Leclerc.
18:08Four hundredths of a lot of championships are defined by difficult runs
18:12and how you extricate yourself from them.
18:14That will be his aim.
18:16Leclerc has form around this racetrack,
18:18contended for victory on a couple of occasions and taken the win a few years ago.
18:23That's when Ferrari appeared a monster of a car in 2022.
18:29That's from Russell's car, as you can see, on the hijacks at the moment.
18:33Leclerc in the cockpit as we are ticking down to the start of the session.
18:38Isaac Hadjar had slightly delayed running earlier on.
18:42In that vastly updated Red Bull, especially tailback from underneath the side pods there,
18:48which we would have seen if we'd stayed with that shot.
18:50But we're showing you the heat out there, which is extreme.
18:53And the crowd that have gathered on the glorious hill that overlooks the racetrack from turns three to turns four.
19:02It doesn't look like it's going to be the busiest start to this session for plenty of them.
19:06It will be, there must be Bortoleto queuing up in the pits already.
19:09A driver that sat out earlier on for Paul Aaron in the Audi.
19:12So we've got six drivers returning.
19:14You mentioned Charles Leclerc, also Gabriel Bortoleto and a few others.
19:20Carlos Sainz, another driver that's going to be very eager to get out there on the green.
19:26And it's actually Nico Hockenberg that is leading out.
19:29There's Bortoleto now coming out behind him.
19:31So both Audi's getting on with it.
19:33A slower start then for Mercedes and Arvid Lindblad looking pretty chilled.
19:36He was good earlier on there, wasn't he, in the racing bulls.
19:39So they're going to bide their time before heading out.
19:42Still scorching out there, 49 degrees track temperature.
19:46But the track should be coming up a little bit in this hour.
19:51Just dropping slightly, a couple of degrees down from what it was earlier on.
19:54Might help the softs.
19:56Hard tyres that these guys have gone out on right now.
19:58But then they'll switch to the softs and try and put a qualifying run together.
20:02Get a better feel for the balance.
20:0548 degrees Celsius, 118 Fahrenheit is the track temperature for us.
20:10It is 31 degrees Celsius and 87 Fahrenheit for a very, very enjoyable time down there in the pit lane.
20:17If you can find some shade, Alex Brundle reporting earlier on that it was incredible.
20:23Bahrain-like heat, he reported from the pit lane earlier on.
20:27Norbert Vettel down in the front of the Aston Martin pit carriage.
20:32A place he would have been in regularly a few years ago, but still coming to enjoy Formula 1,
20:37even if his son's now not getting strapped into one of the cockpits.
20:41With a nice bit of shade as well for him in the pit lane.
20:43And a great vantage point to see the Aston Martins get sent out very shortly.
20:49Hülkenberg will be the first driver then to launch into a flying lap
20:53as the Red Bulls trundle out of the pit lane.
20:55So Hadjar ahead of Verstappen and whoops, off we go straight away with Hülkenberg.
21:00Braking issues continue.
21:02That lap in the bin for Hülkenberg.
21:04Let's go downstairs now and check in with Alex Brundle.
21:08Over to you, Alex.
21:11Good afternoon, gentlemen.
21:13Just checking in with both McLarens as they leave the pit lane,
21:17which will be heartening, won't it,
21:18for the team who had to hold Lando Norris for a decent period of time
21:21at the beginning of FP1.
21:23We were expecting to see their rotational wing this weekend
21:29as a test item to be used later on in the year.
21:32Our understanding, though, is that we are now unlikely to see it.
21:36That's as a result of different issues in the garage earlier on in FP1,
21:42meaning that effectively they had to prioritise other things.
21:45And effectively, that wing also needs a little bit more development
21:48before they feel that they can test it effectively.
21:51So I'm reliably informed Flippy Wing won't be making an appearance.
21:56But if it does, I'll be delighted.
21:58We will riot if it does, Alex Brundle.
22:01The Flippy Wing on the Red Bull, on the Ferrari.
22:05Showed you that earlier, Ron.
22:06It was due to be on Lando Norris and only Lando Norris' car.
22:10Lando Norris losing a lot of the session with a high-tronic issue.
22:13I've got no power.
22:14Yeah, it's ready to box this, though.
22:18Alvin's been another bad luck driver from this year so far.
22:22And in he comes, then, having taken to the track
22:26just for an outlap on the mediums
22:28as most of the field now start to get out there.
22:31Hamilton went deep into Turn 1.
22:32Let's have a look on board.
22:36Hits the brakes.
22:3880 metres, turns it in.
22:40Car's a little bit lively.
22:41And Lewis cannot commit to releasing the brakes,
22:44otherwise he's going to just go off out wide over the sausage kerb.
22:46So he stays on it and bails out of that lap.
22:49The wind has shifted slightly,
22:51so it's now behind Kimi Antonelli,
22:54almost directly as he's heading out
22:56to start his first flying lap here.
22:58And that's why I think we've seen Hulkenberg
23:00and now Hamilton in a little bit hot for this first turn.
23:03Antonelli finding it for the first time
23:05and getting out quite wide onto the kerbs.
23:07But that one was OK there for Kimi.
23:10Should make the braking into Turn 4
23:11a little bit better there.
23:13He's now got a headwind.
23:14Can you see a lock-up for someone ahead of Antonelli?
23:19He's got a barrel load of cars ahead of him
23:21as we make our way past the trees,
23:24up over the tree line
23:25and heading to this Turn 4 corner
23:27where Antonelli was so impressive earlier on.
23:29Almost taking 200 miles per hour
23:31as he comes down the hill there.
23:32And that's where now you're into a headwind.
23:34So probably would have clipped the 200
23:37without that at this stage.
23:38But it does mean that you can then pinch the braking
23:41a few metres later.
23:42The car feels great under braking
23:44but you're arriving there a little bit slower.
23:46You've got more downforce on the car then.
23:48And you can sweep then through these fast corners
23:50before long.
23:52Coming through the final couple of turns.
23:54Quick corner over the prowl,
23:56down a gear.
23:57And then you've immediately got to gather your thoughts
24:00for this final turn as well
24:01which comes up so quickly.
24:03Antonelli finding the limit of rear grip
24:06if not finding the limit of track.
24:07And through he goes.
24:08One minute, 8.3.
24:12Sir Antonelli earlier on with a 7.7.
24:16It's a very, very fast lap around here.
24:19Ten official corners.
24:21The drivers will always tell you
24:22seven that matter.
24:26Well, we've got Alex Brundle
24:27for minor complaints still going
24:29but three corners where you're flat out
24:31they just shouldn't be corners.
24:34You get marshal posts
24:35and it's interesting for the marshals
24:37to know if you're at turn two or turn three.
24:39Turn two is effectively
24:40halfway down the straight
24:42between one and the second corner
24:44which is actually turn three.
24:45Yeah, two's not a corner.
24:46But that's why you have it, I think
24:48for ease of marshalling
24:51or removing cars off the track.
24:54All that drivers will care about
24:56is anything that they can make a difference on
24:58and that is seven turns around this lap
24:59where you're putting inputs in
25:02that can find or cost you lap time.
25:06Charles Leclerc through the penultimate one.
25:07Little drop down the hill
25:09through the final corner.
25:10A little bit of camber there
25:11and they'll squeeze on the throttle
25:13to come out of that turn.
25:14First flying lap of the day
25:15for Charles Leclerc, one minute 10.2
25:17He will find plenty from that.
25:20Isaac Hadjar is reporting
25:21in the early state.
25:22Oh, here's for Staffan.
25:23I sit completely different in the car.
25:26What the **** is this?
25:28Oh, Max, is it something you'd need to box for?
25:31After his lap, Max,
25:32I lay down a lot.
25:34I don't know what's going on.
25:37Unusual one for Max of Staffan
25:39to be reporting on the radio.
25:40He stays out.
25:41So,
25:41a very bizarre one.
25:44Like, the seat's not mounted incorrectly in there.
25:48And he's,
25:49he's,
25:50he's
25:51shuffled down in the cockpit.
25:53And there's a,
25:56it's been a day
25:57of odd Max complaints, hasn't it?
25:59The vibration through
26:00the whole car
26:01as he was slowing down earlier on
26:03and now just sitting differently
26:05in what is the same seat
26:06that gets fastened down
26:09into the cockpit.
26:10Obviously something must have come loose there.
26:13And as soon as you're not sitting
26:14in where you should be,
26:16it's impossible to drive effectively.
26:18So,
26:18I am amazed that he's continued
26:19for another lap.
26:21His first lap was 1.2 seconds down
26:22on the McLarens
26:23and 10th away from Hadjar.
26:26He stays out.
26:28We'll see if he continues the run,
26:29if he's
26:30getting the jangles or something
26:32and he needs to just dial back in
26:33or,
26:34Max is a driver with extreme sensitivity.
26:36So,
26:37I wouldn't be surprised
26:39if he came back in
26:39and tried to fix whatever's up.
26:42Sergio Perez
26:43ground to a halt
26:44about
26:45there
26:46at the end of FP1.
26:48Give or take.
26:49Give or take a few metres.
26:51And he's
26:51heading out there.
26:53He will hope with the car
26:55fully operational
26:56as a big upgrade
26:57to both Cadillacs.
26:59There's all sorts going on
27:00at the moment.
27:01Something in the cockpit
27:02on the left-hand side
27:02he's banging his elbow on.
27:04As you can see,
27:05not a lot of clearance
27:05for the drivers.
27:07Strange cockpit complaint
27:09from Verstappen
27:10and now Bottas.
27:10Yeah,
27:11well,
27:11that's your headrest
27:12that you can see there
27:13but there's space underneath that
27:15for the driver's elbow
27:16so they're not banging
27:17on the sides
27:18of the cockpit.
27:21So,
27:21I don't know
27:22if they've put some
27:24sensors
27:24or wires
27:25in the side there
27:26that
27:26are obviously trying to measure
27:28cockpit inputs.
27:31I have the same.
27:32Copy that.
27:33Slow in.
27:37And so,
27:38can Perez
27:39get back
27:40or is he going
27:42to come to a halt
27:43at turn six?
27:44He's made it that far
27:45but he's stationary
27:47on my driver tracker
27:49and there he is
27:51off the road
27:52and what a disappointment
27:54for Cadillac
27:55who would have loved
27:56all the run time
27:57they could have got
27:58and the issue
27:59from FP1
28:00has not been fixed
28:01and he will get
28:03no meaningful running
28:04in FP2.
28:05Rough day
28:06for Checo
28:07unless they can somehow
28:09control alt delete it
28:11and get it running again
28:12from the cockpit.
28:13Managed to do it earlier on
28:15very temporarily
28:16but
28:18that was the cause
28:19of the red flag earlier
28:20and it looks
28:20through all the world
28:21like Checo's going
28:22no further
28:22at this stage.
28:23Fires are up
28:24waiting for Marshall
28:24to come and join him
28:25and eventually
28:26push him clear
28:27as we continue
28:28under just the VSC
28:29for now.
28:31Rough day for him.
28:33Big day for Cadillac.
28:34Loads of upgrades
28:35on their car as well.
28:36It's become a good
28:37testing venue this
28:38because it's not
28:38a sprint weekend.
28:42I need to box.
28:43Let me pick my seat up.
28:44This is crazy.
28:46Okay.
28:49Well, it's a good time
28:50for Max to do that now
28:51under VSC.
28:52There's going to be
28:52at least another
28:53bit of time.
28:54It's obviously going
28:54to cost him
28:56a good few minutes
28:57then to jump out
28:58and reposition the seat
28:59which must be not
29:00fastened in
29:02correctly
29:02on the mounting point
29:04in the cockpit.
29:06So
29:07maybe it's come loose
29:08as he's driven out
29:09or something
29:10but a bizarre one then
29:11for Verstappen
29:13who's going to come in
29:14and lose himself
29:14a bit of time
29:15but
29:15as I said
29:16at least being under
29:17the VSC
29:17is no meaningful running
29:18for anyone else
29:19out there anyway.
29:21And yeah,
29:22Bottas had a decent run
29:23earlier on in the Cadillac.
29:24Pero's getting
29:25not much of a feel
29:26for the upgrade.
29:28Bottas
29:29earlier on
29:30with the 13th fastest time
29:311.7 seconds
29:32of the benchmark pace
29:34set by
29:35Kimi Antonelli.
29:37It was in the Mercedes
29:38with a
29:391.07.7.
29:41Let's go downstairs
29:42and check in
29:42with Alex Brundle.
29:45It's been frantic
29:47here guys
29:48down at the car
29:48of George Russell.
29:50They look to have been
29:50dealing with a
29:51reliability issue
29:52with it.
29:53They started taking
29:54the floor off
29:55and then
29:56put paid to that.
29:58Dealt with the issue
29:59at the rear of the car.
30:00George Russell
30:00has just got back
30:02inside.
30:03They just handed him
30:04a bag of dry ice
30:05to basically hold
30:06in the cockpit
30:08down here
30:08until he's ready to go
30:09and it looks like
30:10the final bits
30:12of taping
30:12are being done
30:13to refit the bodywork
30:14back onto the car.
30:15Bradley Lord has told us
30:16that it's going to be
30:17a short fix
30:18and it will be
30:20back out
30:21as soon as
30:23it's ready
30:24and as soon as
30:24the bodywork
30:25is back onto it
30:26but you really sense
30:27that this is
30:28critical run time
30:29that Mercedes
30:30are losing
30:31by how frantic
30:33the activity is
30:34around this car.
30:35They are so
30:36so desperate
30:37to get him
30:38back out there.
30:40Thank you Alex.
30:42Really
30:43industrious scene
30:44down there
30:45at the Mercedes
30:46garage for the driver
30:47third in the
30:48world championship.
30:49We see the
30:51marshals
30:52recovering the
30:52Cadillac.
30:53We're still
30:53under virtual
30:54safety car.
30:55Max Verstappen
30:56out of the car.
30:57Doesn't want to be
30:57out of the car
30:58for too long
30:58as they fixed
31:00the issue
31:01with the seat
31:02that was
31:03dramatically
31:03affecting the
31:04four-time champion.
31:08There we go.
31:09There is the
31:09moulded seat
31:11that is to
31:12the driver's
31:15exact
31:15specifications.
31:23Yeah so
31:24take that out
31:24and make sure
31:25that it's
31:25sitting flush
31:26within the
31:28within its
31:29confines
31:29around the
31:30base of the
31:31tub there.
31:34Strange
31:35issue for
31:36Red Bull
31:37but still
31:37under VSC
31:38so that
31:39will clear
31:39very quickly
31:40because I think
31:40Checo had pulled
31:41it off at a
31:41sensible point
31:43around this
31:43corner onto
31:44the right-hand
31:44side so where
31:45the marshals
31:46were also
31:46industriously
31:47working to
31:48clear it.
31:50it should be there.
31:51We ride on board
31:52with Lewis Hamilton
31:52to the scene
31:54of the car.
31:56It's around
31:56this next one
31:57so you've got
31:57a post there
31:58they're marked
31:59with fluorescent
31:59orange where
32:00you can pull
32:01a car off
32:01so the drivers
32:02all know that.
32:02There's another
32:03one to the
32:03right-hand side
32:04which is where
32:04Checo was.
32:05I think they were
32:05pushing him
32:06straight down
32:07to clear the
32:08car down there
32:09and I see
32:10no Cadillac
32:10so presumably
32:12we are moments
32:12away from
32:13going green
32:14again.
32:15There it is
32:16on the right-hand
32:16side.
32:17Perez watch.
32:20The lesser
32:21spotted.
32:22There's more
32:23room at that
32:23part.
32:24If it was a
32:25race they would
32:26have used the
32:26gap where he
32:27pulled over
32:28but there's
32:29more room.
32:30Well you can
32:30push him
32:31straight rather
32:32than trying to
32:32do the 90
32:33degree turn
32:34to get him
32:35in so I
32:36think if I
32:36was marshalling
32:37not that I
32:38have done
32:39and again
32:39big credit
32:40to all the
32:40marshals for
32:41their fine
32:42work I
32:43would have
32:43opted for
32:44the straight
32:44line approach
32:44I think
32:45they did
32:45that one
32:45right.
32:47Sounds
32:47like a
32:47feature
32:48coming.
32:49I'd do
32:50it.
32:50Yeah.
32:51What a way
32:52to watch
32:53Formula One.
32:53It's amazing
32:54some of the
32:55views I mean
32:56it is a
32:56very early
32:56alarm call
32:57so I can
32:57see you
32:58going off
32:58it for
32:58that reason.
33:01Some of
33:02the views
33:02they get.
33:03I'll do
33:03it for
33:03FP2.
33:06and we
33:07can't go
33:07racing without
33:07them.
33:08Grateful for
33:08everyone who
33:09turns up and
33:12any circuit
33:13is a great
33:14thing to do
33:14and they've
33:15recovered him
33:16to he's
33:17still in
33:19the car
33:23and the
33:24tractor has
33:24been withdrawn
33:26and he is
33:27now finally
33:27giving up
33:28on it.
33:29Let's send
33:30it to Brundle
33:30again.
33:31Hello Alex.
33:32Hello Jake.
33:33See I've
33:34come to
33:34investigate
33:35Max Verstappen's
33:37seat.
33:37He's still
33:38out of the
33:38car still
33:39with his
33:39helmet on
33:40and it
33:40looks like
33:41there's the
33:42molded seat
33:42the carbon
33:43fiber molded
33:43seat.
33:44They take
33:44an impression
33:45of the
33:46driver and
33:46then they
33:46build that
33:48element
33:48but that
33:49drills
33:50into some
33:52mounting points
33:53on the
33:53base of
33:54the cockpit
33:54and it
33:55looks to
33:55me like
33:56it might
33:57not have
33:57been properly
33:58affixed
33:59or not
34:00nicely affixed
34:02in any case
34:02to the
34:03mounting points
34:04that it
34:05sits on
34:06particularly
34:06underneath
34:07where Verstappen
34:08sits in
34:09that car.
34:10That's what
34:10they've been
34:10playing with
34:11with a
34:11very drill
34:12with a
34:13very long
34:13extension to
34:14it like
34:15they've been
34:15re-drilling
34:16or re-fixing
34:17those mounting
34:18points.
34:18Verstappen
34:19jumping back
34:20in again to
34:20give you
34:21again a
34:21sense of
34:22how critical
34:23this track
34:24time is
34:24so they
34:24obviously
34:25think they
34:25fixed it
34:26but it
34:26wasn't just
34:27Max feeling
34:28strange in
34:29the cockpit
34:29it seems
34:30pretty clear
34:31there was a
34:31genuine problem
34:32with how the
34:33carbon fibre
34:34or a genuine
34:35change in
34:36how the
34:36carbon fibre
34:37seat actually
34:38fitted into
34:39the cockpit
34:40of that Red
34:41Bull that
34:41they now
34:42think they've
34:42rectified so
34:44let's see if
34:44that's improved
34:44it for him.
34:46So this is
34:47the part on
34:48a Sunday
34:48where DC
34:49would talk
34:49about the
34:50princess and
34:50the pea
34:51the sensitivity
34:52of drivers
34:53to something
34:54not being
34:55quite right
34:55and it has
34:56to be
34:57you have to
34:57be so
34:58dialed in
34:59to your
35:00seating position
35:01particularly
35:01the comfort
35:02and as
35:04George Russell
35:04heads out
35:05onto track
35:05now as well
35:06in the
35:06Mercedes
35:07they've got
35:07that going
35:07again and
35:08really not
35:09lost too
35:09much
35:09and he's
35:10just in
35:10time for
35:10a green
35:10flag
35:11going
35:11again
35:12but you
35:13are so
35:13in tune
35:13if you
35:14leave the
35:14pits
35:14and you're
35:15not sitting
35:15quite right
35:16or you're
35:16moving around
35:17or your
35:17headrest
35:17is knocking
35:19or something
35:19we heard
35:20Valtteri
35:20talk about
35:21his arm
35:21clearance
35:22not being
35:22perfect
35:23as soon as
35:23you've got
35:23a level
35:24of distraction
35:24you're so
35:25finely tuned
35:26in that
35:27it is
35:28unsettling
35:29and it's
35:30just important
35:31to be
35:31so dialed
35:32in
35:33to
35:34finding
35:35performance
35:35to finding
35:36your references
35:37your brakes
35:38and everything
35:38without having
35:391% of
35:39you distracted
35:40by something
35:41or not having
35:41the perfect
35:43viewpoint
35:45so fix
35:46is completed
35:47for Max
35:47Verstappen
35:48who's back
35:48in the car
35:49and about
35:50to be sent
35:50onto the
35:51racetrack
35:52you're looking
35:52at his current
35:52form at the
35:53bottom of the
35:53screen
35:55front row
35:56start in
35:56Monaco
35:58but the car
35:58failing off
35:59the line
36:01front row
36:01start in
36:02Miami
36:03yeah
36:03outstanding
36:04is that
36:05the Red Bull
36:06are getting
36:06closer aren't
36:07they
36:08they're finding
36:08a little bit
36:09and this is
36:10the big hope
36:10for them
36:11this weekend
36:13the upgrade
36:13package
36:14that they
36:14need to
36:15get out
36:15there
36:15and
36:16when you
36:16when you
36:17bring a
36:17big raft
36:17of upgrades
36:19particularly
36:20the floor
36:22side pods
36:23the rear
36:23of the car
36:24there's a lot
36:25in there
36:25for Red Bull
36:25a lot
36:26of hopes
36:26that they're
36:26going to
36:27find some
36:27downforce
36:27with it
36:28which is
36:29where they're
36:29missing out
36:29we now know
36:30they've got
36:30a very competitive
36:31power unit
36:32the ice
36:33is the
36:33standout
36:34that's
36:34your internal
36:35combustion engine
36:35is better
36:36than anyone
36:37so they can
36:38pat themselves
36:39on the back
36:39for that
36:39what you need
36:40now is to
36:40find some
36:41cornering
36:41performance
36:42that's why
36:43they're bringing
36:43a load of
36:44upgrades
36:44and they
36:45show for
36:45Miami
36:46that if you
36:47bring upgrades
36:47you can make
36:48them work
36:48got Verstappen
36:49to the front
36:49of the grid
36:50he's been
36:51not quite able
36:52to compete
36:53really right
36:53at the front
36:54but he's been
36:56getting closer
36:57and now with
36:57another chunky
36:58upgrade package
36:59this could be
37:00the chance
37:00to fight
37:01for a pole
37:02position
37:02or certainly
37:03an outright
37:05podium
37:05or better
37:09and
37:10they need to
37:11get out
37:11there to
37:11figure it
37:11out
37:12as a
37:13as a
37:13as a
37:13had
37:14in the
37:14press conference
37:14yesterday
37:15was hopeful
37:15that that's
37:16what the
37:16upgrade could
37:17do to bring
37:18them into
37:18the fight
37:19for the podium
37:20places
37:21that's what he
37:21said
37:24I had to
37:25give his
37:26trophy
37:26this week
37:27and deliver
37:28it to
37:28Pierre
37:28Gazze
37:29he said
37:29he was
37:29glad he
37:29was giving
37:30it to
37:30a friend
37:30not one
37:31of the
37:31other
37:31drivers
37:33a countryman
37:34no less
37:34yeah
37:36well there's
37:36nothing worse
37:37than giving
37:38one up to
37:38your arch
37:39rival
37:40if it was
37:41matched with
37:41let's say
37:42George Russell
37:42a couple of
37:43years ago
37:43you've got to
37:43go knocking
37:44here's your
37:44trophy
37:45well done
37:45yeah that's
37:46being sent
37:46by a courier
37:47isn't it
37:47that's not a
37:48face to face
37:48delivery
37:49poor old
37:50Checo
37:50making his
37:51way back
37:51to the
37:51garage
37:52he's run
37:53interrupted
37:54in FP1
37:55and FP2
37:56and that is
37:57very close
37:58for comfort
37:59right on cue
38:00right on cue
38:01they know it
38:02Verstappen and
38:03Russell
38:03out on track
38:04both with
38:05delayed starts
38:06to this one
38:06and George
38:07I think was
38:07on a push
38:08and failed
38:09out of it
38:10and Verstappen
38:10has just come
38:11out of the pits
38:11and they found
38:12themselves
38:12together on track
38:13through turn 7
38:14of course
38:15Verstappen has
38:15had the podium
38:16in Canada
38:17but that was
38:18clearly by virtue
38:19of George Russell
38:20retiring from
38:20a race lead
38:22also the
38:23McLarens
38:24completely dropping
38:25the ball on
38:26strategy
38:26and starting
38:27a dry race
38:28on intermediates
38:30and then he
38:31managed to
38:31get to third
38:32he also had a
38:32really off weekend
38:33for Charles Leclerc
38:34and it was a
38:35great drive for
38:36Max to get
38:37the podium
38:38for Red Bull
38:40so far
38:40obviously Hajar
38:41nearly adding to
38:41it in Monaco
38:43but they don't
38:44have the pace
38:45really to quite
38:46fight for it
38:47even if they've
38:47had some great
38:48qualifying shows
38:49but maybe this
38:50weekend is the
38:50time
38:50it's a strange
38:52one traditionally
38:52with Red Bull
38:53because you
38:53would have
38:53always expected
38:55the car
38:56aerodynamically
38:56to be a
38:57standout
38:57performer
38:59they've done
38:59a great job
39:01to build
39:02their own
39:02power unit
39:03I mean that is
39:04you can get
39:05yourself into
39:05all sorts of
39:06trouble doing
39:06that
39:07especially with
39:08no defined
39:09history of
39:11building their
39:11own power unit
39:12they recruited
39:12so well for
39:14that project
39:15and now they
39:16don't get a
39:16chance to
39:18upgrade it
39:19as per the
39:20way that the
39:20Formula 1
39:21rulebook is
39:21written
39:22and yet it's
39:23the downforce
39:23that they're
39:24chasing
39:24they do have
39:25history of
39:26developing well
39:26deep into a
39:27season
39:28that's got
39:29like a tough
39:29punishment
39:30doesn't it
39:31Red Bull
39:32having such
39:32a good
39:33engine
39:34effectively
39:34that
39:35actually
39:36Mercedes are
39:36allowed to
39:37keep developing
39:37and Red Bull
39:38have to stand
39:39still
39:39when you look
39:40at the
39:40overall
39:40pecking order
39:41feels harsh
39:42there's a
39:43technicality
39:43of the rules
39:44right now
39:45and they're
39:45just going
39:45to have to
39:46lump it
39:46not only are
39:47Mercedes
39:47going to be
39:48able to
39:48provide an
39:49upgrade
39:49Ferrari
39:50going to
39:50be able to
39:50provide
39:50a couple
39:51of upgrades
39:52as well
39:53and we know
39:54Honda and
39:54Audi have got
39:55plenty of
39:56work to do
39:56in
39:57in their
39:58power units
39:59as well
39:59understeer for
40:00Russell
40:00but I've
