00:10Kazakhstan is bringing artificial intelligence into classrooms as part of its drive to build
00:15a digital economy. President Kasimzumar Tokayev has tasked the government with adopting an AI
00:20in schools roadmap by July 1st. The initiative will begin by narrowing the gap between urban
00:25and rural education, expanding access to modern learning tools for students across the country.
00:33Welcome to East-West Connect. We're highlighting business and economic opportunities in Kazakhstan
00:38and the wider Central Asian region connecting with Europe and beyond. This September, the
00:44government will launch a pilot project to equip 500 understaffed rural schools with reliable high-speed
00:50internet and modern technology, with implementation running through May 2027 ahead of a nationwide rollout.
00:58Teachers will deliver live and recorded lessons remotely to students in rural schools supported
01:03by a national AI platform that tracks performance and identifies struggling learners. Building on this
01:09digital push in education, more than 350,000 teachers have already completed AI training programs,
01:15while over 100,000 have gained access to OpenAI's GBT Edu platform for classroom use. By 2029,
01:22these measures are expected to reduce the number of underperforming students, ease administrative workloads
01:28for teachers, and expand personalized learning across the system. To discuss how this initiative will be
01:34implemented, we are joined by Sergey Kompanyiz, Kazakhstan's Vice Minister of Enlightenment.
01:41Mr. Kompanyiz, welcome to the program. Thank you.
01:43What gives you the confidence that these rural schools are ready to adapt AI successfully?
01:50Mr. Kompanyiz, welcome to the program. When we selected these 500 schools for a pilot, we
01:53started not only from the technical and infrastructure preparation of schools, but from the
02:00point of the pedagogical and organizational preparation of schools to launch new technologies.
02:05Mr. Kompanyiz, welcome to the program. There is a dual education system of education,
02:10the program. The teacher, the teacher, will be in the online mode to teach online online
02:16to the same time in several small-complete schools. The teacher, who is locally in the school,
02:21will answer the organizational issues, will help children to achieve the material.
02:27So the goal is to ensure that the best teachers of our country are available for our children,
02:32regardless of whether they are in the online center or in the small-complete schools.
02:36How will teachers be trained to incorporate AI into the classroom in a meaningful way?
02:41Mr. Kompanyiz, for those teachers, who will be involved in the pilot school, we will be able to teach them
02:50to use the instruments, which will be developed and implemented in the pilot project.
02:56Mr. Kompanyiz is not a teacher, he becomes their assistant, their assistant, their assistant,
03:01who will help them to evaluate the quality of knowledge of children, will help them to prepare the material for
03:10the lessons,
03:11and, in general, we plan to increase the administrative burden on teachers.
03:20So, teachers will be able to spend time on children, on education, on their education, on their education.
03:28Do you see AI becoming a subject in its own right or a tool embedded across all areas of learning?
03:34Mr. Kompanyiz, for example, we do not consider these two approaches as an exchange.
03:48Mr. Kompanyiz, thank you for your time.
03:53Mr. Kompanyiz, thank you.
04:04Mr. Kompanyiz, thank you.
04:06A pilot project is already underway in Astana. Here is the story.
04:13State school number 101 in Astana has started tracking pupils' learning progress in real-time using artificial intelligence.
04:20Student activity is analyzed through smart cameras and audio tools in classrooms, as well as through work completed on tablets,
04:27producing valuable feedback for teachers. Students are also equipped with high-performance computers, 3D printers, 3D pens and drones
04:34to develop practical digital skills.
04:37The main goal is to create innovative projects in our schools.
04:45We do not have anything to do with the theory, which is not the practice of theory.
04:50The students do not always understand that the whole system is different.
04:55Beyond the classroom, artificial intelligence is also being used to monitor students' well-being and help identify signs of bullying,
05:02alerting teachers and enabling faster responses to create a safer learning environment.
05:23The pilot is among a growing number of initiatives testing how AI can support post-learning outcomes
05:29and students' welfare as Kazakhstan prepares for a broader rollout of artificial intelligence across its educational system.
05:38Joining us now is Soltanad Jumabaeva, Director at the Ibrailton-Siden National Academy of Education.
05:46Ms. Jumabaeva, welcome to the studio.
05:49How could the introduction of AI in schools help improve productivity and learning outcomes among both students and teachers?
05:56It is not only improve, but it allows us to give the opportunity to both teachers and teachers to solve
06:07their internal and individual needs.
06:11And thus, we can also move forward to personalized learning.
06:28So, how can schools prevent over-reliance on technology and preserve critical thinking and analytical skills among pupils?
06:37Ms. Jumabaeva, welcome to the teacher.
06:39Ms. Jumabaeva, welcome to the teacher and teacher.
06:41David, welcome to the teacher.
06:44The teachers, the teachers, the teachers and the teachers, the steps of using this instrument.
06:48They allow to maintain balance between them and balance the practice and regulate the practice.
06:55A student should think about, the information, the information, the data, the data.
07:01And when the teacher gives this information, the most important task of the teacher is to find their own point
07:09of view,
07:10compare, compare, analyze.
07:12Could these developments help strengthen rather than weaken the relationship between teachers and students?
07:18We have very different students.
07:20And in order to be effective, with artificial intelligence,
07:27you can reach a separate teacher in a separate way.
07:53That's all for now. See you in the next episode of EastWest Connect.
