00:03Chongqing, one of the world's largest megacities in Western China, with a population of about 30 million.
00:11You get an idea of how immense the challenge really is.
00:15All these people need electricity, heat and mobility, not to mention the needs of industry and business.
00:22In addition, the world's population is growing, and with it, global economic output and energy requirements.
00:34Today, 80% of China's energy supply is still based primarily on coal, and only 20% on renewable energies.
00:43This ratio between old and new energy sources is the same as in countries like Germany and the USA.
00:51In the best-case scenario, this should be reversed in China by 2030.
00:56And that is a gigantic challenge.
