00:00Charlie, can I start with the heat?
00:02How was training out there?
00:03We're expected to be as hot, if not hotter tomorrow.
00:06How did you find that?
00:07Yeah, it was all right.
00:08It was obviously, it was quite warm batting with the helmet on.
00:12And yeah, I guess we've, as cricket players,
00:16we play cricket in other countries where the weather's very similar.
00:20So I guess it's a bit different being this hot at home.
00:24But it's something that we have, you know, lots of cooling methods
00:28and making sure that we fuel up and everything.
00:31It's, yeah, it's something that I guess we've played in those conditions
00:36in different places.
00:38So, yeah, it's just being ready to get out there.
00:41And I guess it's a bit of an evening game tomorrow,
00:43so it might be a little cooler.
00:44But yeah, prepared, ready to go.
00:47So are there things you can do to overcome it?
00:51Yeah, I guess, like, first of all, being, like, really fueled up
00:55to make sure you've got loads of energy,
00:57because it is sapping, is the heat and loads of cooling methods,
01:00lots of ice and other things being ran on the pitch, I'm sure.
01:05I definitely remember, like, umbrellas being ran on in Dubai
01:09or something like that.
01:10I don't know whether maybe it's that drastic.
01:12But yeah, there's loads of things you can do.
01:16I think, like, having chewing gum, like having mints in your mouth
01:20makes you feel cooler.
01:22There's, like, things like that, loads of science behind it, apparently.
01:25But yeah, there's loads of things you can do, I guess,
01:29to be best prepared to, I guess, play in the heat.
01:33Yeah.
01:33It feels like you've put to bed sort of the arguments
01:36about fitness around the team since Lotte came in.
01:38But is this potentially a chance to really prove the point
01:42if you're going to be able to run around in a game like this,
01:44in heat like this?
01:46Yeah, I think, you know, we're always moving forward as a team
01:49and pushing our standards.
01:50And that's been the case for, you know, years.
01:52But I guess especially since that ashes and concerns around our fielding.
01:58And yeah, I think we've been really impressive,
02:00especially this summer.
02:02Yeah, our standards just keep getting better and better.
02:04So being able to work hard and prove we can do it in the heat,
02:08I guess, is a good opportunity.
02:09But it's not something that we're particularly thinking about.
02:12We know that we're able to perform under those conditions.
02:15And yeah, it'll be very interesting to see how it goes.
02:19How are you feeling back as captain again now?
02:22Nat's obviously injured.
02:23You got one run out at Headingley on Saturday.
02:25How does it feel to be back leading this team, but in a World Cup?
02:28You've not even done it at all at the start of the summer
02:30and now you're doing it in a World Cup.
02:31Yeah, I guess having a couple of series under my belt,
02:34I feel a lot more confident coming into the World Cup
02:37and picking up where I left off, I guess, on field.
02:44Yeah, it's certainly something that I've grown in confidence with
02:46and felt a lot more comfortable.
02:48And it's certainly, you know, getting smoother and smoother
02:50the more you do it.
02:51I guess it's just like a skill like anything else
02:54with your fielding, your batting, bowling.
02:56So yeah, I guess leadership is a skill
02:58and that's something that I'm getting a chance to practice loads.
03:02And that's been really, really fun, actually.
03:04But yeah, hopefully, yeah, I do my job for Nat
03:07and then she can come back in.
03:09Is there any word on how Nat is?
03:12I think she's following all the medical instructions right now
03:17and I don't have too much on it.
03:19And I think there'll be an update as and when we have one, really.
03:23But yeah, I think she's tracking well
03:24and yeah, all things going to plan and she should be back.
03:29You're happy to go all the way to a final,
03:31potentially back here as captain if you had to.
03:34Yeah, I guess in an ideal world,
03:37naps back and ready and in those knockout games.
03:40But I think should it become the case
03:42that she wouldn't be available.
03:44Yeah, I feel comfortable that I've really grown into the role
03:49and getting better and better with every game.
03:51So yeah, should it arise,
03:53I think it would be a great opportunity.
03:56But yeah, not one that I guess I really, really want the situation to arise.
04:05But I guess I'll be ready as and when, if it's required.
04:09And lastly, can I just ask about West Indies.
04:11You played them in Dubai, the Dubai tournament you mentioned last time around in the T20 and lost.
04:16What does any part of you become even more want to prove a point
04:22and to make sure that there are no slip-ups this time?
04:25Yeah, I guess it's really important for us to win one more game
04:30to get us through to the semi-final.
04:32And that's the job at hand and that's what we really want to do.
04:35So, you know, West Indies are explosive sides
04:38and they're notoriously really good in World Cups as well.
04:41So to be able to get one up on them would be, yeah,
04:44would prove how good a place we are in as a team.
04:48But I think it's just playing the games that are in front of you
04:51and that's so important in tournament cricket
04:53and not getting too drawn into past or future
04:57and just staying really present.
05:04There's talk of a crowd of around 17,000 tomorrow.
05:08Has there been much of an emphasis in terms of playing
05:12in a Home World Cup, obviously,
05:14but being able to deliver an entertaining brand of cricket,
05:18a strong brand of cricket, not only to win a tournament,
05:20that's the ultimate goal, of course,
05:21but to perhaps just put on a show for the people watching on?
05:27Yeah, I guess having the opportunity to play in a Home World Cup
05:31and fill the stadiums as much as possible,
05:33it presents a really exciting opportunity
05:35to progress women's cricket in this country.
05:38You know, we saw the massive effect
05:39that winning that 2017 World Cup had.
05:43But equally, like, we want to win every game that we get to.
05:48Sometimes it doesn't matter how you go about that
05:50as long as you get over the line
05:52in those really scrappy, important games.
05:54So I guess we want to put on a show.
05:56We want people to come back and watch us play cricket,
05:58but we also want to get as far as we can possible.
06:02So I guess sometimes it doesn't matter what it looks like
06:05as long as you get over the line.
