00:04It's official, Fox Entertainment CEO Charlie Collier
00:06announced Wednesday that the 71st Emmy Awards
00:09will not feature a host when they air on Fox.
00:12He said at the TCA summer press tour,
00:14what's interesting about this year is how many amazing shows
00:16we're saying goodbye to.
00:18Game of Thrones, Empire, Veep, Big Bang Theory.
00:21You have to look at trade-offs.
00:22If you have a host and opening number that's 15 minutes,
00:25you don't have to celebrate the shows.
00:27He added, I think it will give us more time
00:29to honor those shows.
00:30I promise to fight for the living.
00:34I intend to keep that promise.
00:36The Fox Entertainment CEO also noted that the Oscars
00:39did very well and saw an increase in ratings year over year
00:42despite not having a host in 2019,
00:45saying that was something we paid attention to.
00:47This will be the first time since 2003
00:48that there hasn't been a host for TV's biggest night.
00:51The Emmys also went without a host in 1998 and 1975.
00:54The 71st Primetime Emmys will air September 22nd on Fox.
