00:00What is the story of Ateneo?
00:30If you want to call it, there is times where you have to go to really hard training
00:36and then there's a cycle where you have to rest a little bit in preparation for the actual tournament.
00:42So there are different means.
00:45Water training is not new.
00:50I remember my first head coaching job in the PBA was with Pure Foods Corporation in 1993.
00:56We were already doing a lot of pool work.
00:58You do this?
00:59Yes.
00:59We were doing it in Intercon, in different pools.
01:03There was a time when I went to the swimming pool in the Filipino club.
01:07My recent team, Sea Games in Cambodia, we had a day that we were off.
01:13We sent all the players and I even posted it on social media.
01:17The players were in the pool.
01:19So the water training is part of physical fitness and therapy.
01:26If you're coming off an injury, if you're coming off an injury, if you're coming off an injury, it jars
01:33your joints.
01:33So there's a lot of people in the pool.
01:36So there's a lot of people in the water.
02:02There was times when I was a coach of Coca-Cola, we went to Boracay and we did cliff diving.
02:10We did cliff diving with the players and even my daughter was with us.
02:15So we did a lot of people in the pool.
02:18So we did a lot of people in the pool.
02:19The training for basketball is called cross training.
02:24So it's not only basketball because you're able to develop different muscles, plus it breaks the monotony.
02:31And I'm sure you know, monotony is one of the biggest killers of motivation, right?
02:34So you want to vary your program and vary your methodologies.
02:40So my teams, we had whitewater rafting in Cagayan de Oro, we had camping overnight in a desert in Dubai,
02:48in Qatar.
02:49I brought my teams for a week in an isolated, deserted castle in Italy.
02:55We did a lot of different things, not just within the basketball court.
02:59Because in the process, you build the camaraderie, the team building, you build synergy.
03:07So it's always a combination of doing those activities.
03:10We call that you create shared memories.
03:13That's how teams are built.
03:15Because we're not doing teamwork with us, right?
03:17Wala namang subject sa eskwela na team building.
03:21But that is my experience.
03:22I'm a licensed and professional team development, team builder.
03:26So there are different methodologies where you do outdoor stuff.
03:31And always combined with indoor work, which are the difficult conversations,
03:37which are the, you know, a lot of the other activities that do not require you to go outdoors.
03:44Okay.
03:44So, kasi marami ang usap-usapan noon.
03:46Katulad, halimbawa, na narinig natin yung, I saw that interview with the mother of Rene.
03:54Na hindi niya, at ako rin, ako rin personally, hindi ko maintindihan na parang,
03:58kailangan ba talaga yung training na yun?
04:00Wala namang kinalaman sa basketball.
04:02Now you're explaining it very clearly.
04:04Wala namang kinalaman.
04:05Hindi naman swimmer ang anak ko.
04:07Basketball player ito.
04:08So what you're trying to say, Chot, is these are ancillary activities to support the training of the boys.
04:16And they were not swimming or, you know, panglangoy.
04:20Kasi sinasami, hindi naman sila swimmer.
04:22But it was just that they were, the objective was to put them in knee-deep water to provide more
04:29resistance to the activity.
04:32The calisthenics or the activity that they were doing.
05:17Kasi sinasami, hindi naman sila swimmer.
05:18Kasi sinasami, hindi naman sila swimmer.
05:18Kasi sinasami, hindi naman sila swimmer.
05:18Kasi sinasami, hindi naman sila swimmer.
05:20Kasi sinasami, hindi naman sila swimmer.
05:20Kasi sinasami, hindi naman sila swimmer.
05:21Kasi sinasami, hindi naman sila swimmer.
05:22Kasi sinasami, hindi naman sila swimmer.
