00:00Come with me and you'll be in a world of pure imagination.
00:07It looks like Taika Waititi has found his golden ticket. Just weeks after winning an
00:12Oscar for penning Jojo Rabbit, the filmmaker is now jumping into the world of Willy Wonka.
00:17Netflix has announced that Waititi has closed a deal with the streamer to write, direct,
00:20and executive produce two original animated series based on the works of Ronald Dahl.
00:25The first series will be based on the world and characters of Charlie and the Chocolate
00:28Factory while the second is described as a wholly original take on the Oompa Loompas,
00:33the small, song-loving humans who worked in Willy Wonka's infamous factory.
00:37According to Netflix, the shows will retain the quintessential spirit and tone of the
00:41original story, quote, while building out the world and characters far beyond the pages
00:45of the Dahl book for the very first time. Dahl's book has been adapted into movies,
00:48games, musicals, and perhaps most famously as the Gene Wilder starring cult classic
00:53Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory. Netflix's VP of Original Animation spoke out about
00:58the exciting news saying in part,
01:00Finding just the right creative partner to bring Willy Wonka, Charlie, and the Oompa Loompas
01:04to life in animation was a daunting task, until Taika walked into the room.
01:08Then it was really obvious. If Dahl had created a character of a filmmaker to adapt his work,
01:13I'm pretty sure he would have created Taika.
01:15Waititi has become one of the most in-demand filmmakers in Hollywood thanks to his
01:19genre-bending work that blends quirk, humor, and style.
01:22On top of the two Dahl series, Waititi is in post-production on Searchlight's soccer comedy
01:27Next Goal wins, while also prepping Marvel's Love and Thunder, which he's writing and directing.
