00:00The Alliance for Women in Media held their 2019 Gracie's Gala and this year's event
00:05seemed hopeful for female representation. Superstore actress Lauren Ashe hosted the
00:09evening, which was packed with women from all forms of media, including television,
00:13radio, on camera and behind the scenes, and honored 67 women and men with Gracie's.
00:19The organization behind the yearly gala, named after Gracie Allen, has been around
00:23since the 50s supporting women in all forms of media, but it took on a newfound
00:28importance since modern women's initiatives like Me Too and Time's Up came to the forefront
00:32as of late. Golden Globe-winning actress Rachel Bloom spoke to THR about the importance of
00:37advocating for women before receiving her award saying,
00:50Emmy-nominated actress Melora Hardin also spoke to THR about her The Bold Type character
00:55Jacqueline Carlyle at the event, reflecting on how her character is a new kind of woman in power.
01:01She challenges them and maybe sometimes in a way that's a little intimidating, but she's
01:05never mean and she's not backstabbing. It's really important for women of all ages to see
01:09women of power represented that way. If you don't see a mirror of something that you want
01:13to aspire to, then it's a little bit bleak out there. Disney Channel alum and veteran Gracie
01:18attendee, Alison Stoner, said,
01:31Festivities also included a performance from Sheryl Crow, who played some of her hits at the event.
01:36An audience favorite was when the country star made a parody of the bridge of her song
01:39strong enough, asking if a man was strong enough to not ask about her period, and strong enough
01:44to not get mad at me when I make more money than you.
