00:06It looks like the extra four minutes of footage and recent headlines over Sony and
00:11Marvel's controversial divorce has actually paid off for the re-release of
00:14Spider- Far From Home at the Labor Day box office. The film closed out summer on a
00:19high, earning an estimated $4.3 million for the three-day weekend and $5.4 million
00:25for the four-day holiday frame, bringing it up more than 200% from last weekend's
00:29gross of $1.7 million. Spider- Far From Home now has a shot of hitting the $400 million
00:35mark in the U.S., becoming the second installment in the franchise to do so, behind
00:39only the first Spider-Man, which grossed $403 million back in 2002. Not only that, but the
00:45film would also become the first non-Disney pick of 2019 to cross the $400 million mark
00:50domestically alongside Avengers Endgame, The Lion King, Toy Story 4 and Captain Marvel.
00:55In terms of summer revenue, Sony ranks number two just behind Disney, catapulting
01:00Sony to its best summer since 2006. The superhero pick, starring Tom Holland as a
01:05web-slinging hero, has given the studio plenty to boast about. Back in August, it
01:10became the top-grossing Sony movie of all time at the global box office. It was just
01:14days after this milestone that news broke of Sony and Disney split. The two powerhouse
01:18studios decided to part ways as co-producers on the revived Spider-Man movie
01:22franchise after reportedly not coming to a financial agreement. There has since been
01:26public outcry over the matter considering the superhero may no longer appear in
01:30Marvel movies after making an appearance in the final two installments of the
01:34blockbuster Avengers franchise. Sony Pictures is, however, still vowing to carry on the
01:38Spider-Man franchise. It'll just have to be without Marvel Studios involvement.
