00:00You know, before the Giannis deal broke, there was a three-team deal that created big-time buzz and fanfare
00:08and would have been the lead of today's show before Giannis Hunter the Combo got traded.
00:12How about this one, three-team deal, where you see the Brooklyn Nets get Julius Randle
00:19and pick number 28 in the draft tonight.
00:23The Minnesota Timberwolves, in essence, traded Randle in a salary dump
00:29and had to give up a first-round pick to get rid of him.
00:32Nick Claxton goes to the Chicago Bulls, they're the third team in this deal,
00:37goes from Brooklyn to Chicago, and Minnesota gets a second-round pick, and they get a forward.
00:46So there's a lot to break down here on a lot of different levels.
00:50I feel compelled to start with this.
00:54Another win for the Knicks!
00:55We told you that when they traded for Carl Anthony Towns and traded DiVincenzo selling high on him
01:02and Julius Randle, told you this two years ago, that that was not only a phenomenal championship move for the
01:08Knicks,
01:09but it made no sense for the Minnesota Timberwolves.
01:11I always respect Julius Randle, his game, who he is, his toughness, what he brings to the table.
01:17I'll say it again, you can't win a championship with him.
01:21He is not a championship ball player.
01:24So Minnesota believing that was insane.
01:28It was crazy.
01:29I was struggling to find the team that can take Randle from the Knicks.
01:33I said there's one player on the planet I wanted, and that was Carl Anthony Towns.
01:37I didn't think Minnesota was dumb enough to do it.
01:40Knicks sold high on Dante DiVincenzo.
01:43What an unbelievable trade for the Knicks.
01:47And we said that at the time, we were equal to a championship, and we were right a couple of
01:50seasons later.
01:51I give Minnesota credit, though.
01:55Oftentimes, executives that make failed trades, they have the optics and the image of Cat winning a championship.
02:02Oftentimes, you get stubborn.
02:05Well, we'll figure it out.
02:06We'll make it work.
02:07No, they realized what I knew, what most people who observed Randle in New York knew, you can't win a
02:15chip with them.
02:15And again, great regular season players, a 25-5 guy, 20 points, five assists, five rebound a game guy.
02:22Had a really strong regular season.
02:24But Anthony Edwards is, you know, he needs more, right?
02:29And this frees up a lot of salary.
02:31You know, this is a good situation for the Minnesota Timberwolves.
02:34I'm sure they're going to be very active in trying to do some different things.
02:39So, for Minnesota, this makes all the sense in the world.
02:42I love this trade for the Brooklyn Nets.
02:46Now, you can't win a championship with Julius Randle.
02:51But I really think you can absolutely make the playoffs with Julius Randle.
02:56And I'll take you a step further here.
02:58I think with Michael Porter Jr. and Julius Randle and with Fernandez coaching this team and with a solid young
03:05core and with the draft tonight,
03:07and if the Nets pass on Acuff, honestly, just move to Kansas City.
03:12Just move to Buffalo.
03:14You know, forget about it, okay?
03:16The Brooklyn Nets, if they draft Acuff tonight, they could still have the financial flexibility to sign Austin Reeves.
03:25I mean, the Brooklyn Nets should be a real basketball team.
03:29I think this is a terrific kind of trade.
03:32And Julius Randle should do exactly for Brooklyn what he did for New York, what he did for the Knicks.
03:38Add credibility, instant offense, likability.
03:42You've already seen his family, his kids fired up on social media.
03:46Look, we talked about this after the Knicks won.
03:49Julius Randle should have been invited to the parade.
03:51He helped the New York Knicks go from laughingstock to a credible organization.
03:56I expect Randle to do the exact same thing.
03:59And Nick Claxton was a real solid big man, played defense, rebounded the basketball.
04:04Randle, who's more expensive, Randle equals, at the end of the day, more offensive firepower for the Brooklyn Nets.
04:12So, I thought this was, for Brooklyn, a really strong trade.
04:17I want to defend the Nets.
04:18I think this was an excellent move.
04:20Now, please, do yourself a favor.
04:24Do not pass on Acuff tonight.
04:26If you do, honestly, that's one of the worst decisions you could make in the history of the NBA draft.
04:32If you get a gift tonight from the L.A. Clippers, and they pass on Acuff, and he's there, Darius
04:40Acuff,
04:40is going to be the next amazing offensive point guard in the NBA.
04:45He is electrifying.
04:46He's dynamic.
04:48I mean, John Calipari, who coached them both, said he's going to be the next Derrick Rose.
04:52Not to mention, he's going to capture attention.
04:56He's going to sell seats at the Barclays Center.
05:01That matters.
05:02Man, if you pass on Acuff, that will set the franchise back for a long time.
05:08This is the kind of guy who takes your team, takes your name, to a different level.
05:14Think about the NCAA tournaments, going into the tournament.
05:18Everyone wanted to watch this guy.
05:20If you're the Brooklyn Nets, you absolutely make that pick.
05:24And if you have Acuff, and you have Randall playing together, and if you could find, with
05:28Michael Porter Jr., and you could find a way at the end of the day to get Austin Reeves or
05:33Jalen Brown as well, that's a squad that I want to watch.
05:38So, please, I really like this trade for the Brooklyn Nets.
05:42I really like Julius Randall, part of the Brooklyn organization.
05:46Huge win, obviously, addition by subtraction when it comes to Randall not being
05:50on the Minnesota Timberwolves.
05:52Dear Brooklyn, you have a golden opportunity.
05:55Do not screw this up tonight.
