00:06It was for me?
00:08You shouldn't have.
00:10They're for your wife.
00:12I heard about the diagnosis.
00:13I was hoping to brighten her day.
00:17Well, I don't think flowers from the guy who baited me with a plagiarized manuscript
00:21and set me up for a lawsuit is really going to brighten up her day all that much.
00:27I thought you'd forgiven me, Johnny.
00:30I have.
00:31My wife hasn't.
00:39So you're telling me the airline just lost your luggage?
00:42Well, sure as hell it wasn't on the carousel.
00:45I eventually got it back, but not in time for the wedding.
00:49I had to improvise last minute.
00:52I ended up having to watch Tripp and Wendy recite their marriage vows,
00:57dressed like a guy selling stolen credit cards.
01:02That's great.
01:04Hey, you were there.
01:05That's what counts, right?
01:06And by all accounts, it was a beautiful wedding.
01:08Oh, man.
01:09Sure was.
01:11My son is one lucky dude, crushing it in the white coat world, wonderful wife.
01:18That's awesome.
01:19I'm happy for you, man.
01:21I'm happy for Tripp, too.
01:22Thanks.
01:24All right.
01:24Now, down to business.
01:25What's your status with Black Patch?
01:29Did you finish those training courses?
01:33Uh, yeah.
01:34And I passed with flying colors.
01:39All right, my man.
01:41Okay, so you have officially put the black back in Black Patch.
01:46I guess so.
01:47Welcome to the agency, dude.
01:49Steve, thank you.
01:50I'm grateful for the opportunity.
01:53Truly.
01:54Okay.
01:56Now we need to get you on a case.
02:00Actually, I'm kind of already on one, unofficially.
02:04I'm helping Sarah out.
02:07Okay, what do you got?
02:09I dug up some information on my own, but I need you to help me fill in the bigger picture.
02:21Thank you so much for going to that conference with me, Kayla, especially on your day off, Melissa.
02:26No, it was my pleasure.
02:28Listen, I know how disturbed you've been at the sudden death of your patient.
02:31And I was happy and relieved that the morbidity and mortality team really agreed with my assessment
02:38that you followed protocol and you did everything that you were supposed to.
02:45Logically, I know that, but I definitely feel more at peace hearing it from a team of experts.
02:52I'm glad.
02:55Just hopefully the mystery of destiny's death will be solved soon.
03:00You know, the initial autopsy didn't really tell us much, as you know, so I'm just hoping
03:05that the talk screen results will tell us more.
03:08I just, I want to know why this young woman just died suddenly.
03:16And I know that I've been told that I'm not responsible, but it is, it is eating away at me,
03:23Kayla.
03:24I understand.
03:27I just, I want answers.
03:32And I'm not going to stop until I get them.
03:44Good morning.
03:46Oh, there she is.
03:48Sleeping beauty.
03:49Good morning.
03:53Thanks for letting me sleep in.
03:56I, uh, oh, no.
03:58It's almost the afternoon.
04:00Well, I figured you needed your rest, especially since you were tossing and turning all night.
04:04How are you feeling?
04:05A bit better.
04:07Good.
04:08Thank you for patching that up.
04:11Now I don't have to look at it and remember what I did.
04:14Not that I could ever forget.
04:17It's a process, Steph.
04:19You're working through it.
04:25Baby, I'm sorry.
04:29I've got to take this.
04:33Hey, Joy, is everything all right?
04:35No, it's not.
04:36I'm at the hospital right now with Kelsey.
04:39Okay, say no more.
04:41I'm on my way.
04:53Like sand through the hourglass, so are the days of our lives.
05:10I know that destiny's death is personal for you.
05:15Yeah, just, you know, mostly because of what happened to Holly on New Year's Eve a couple of years ago.
05:21And she took a stimulant that was laced with fentanyl.
05:25Oh, I was so lucky.
05:30Maybe something similar happened with destiny.
05:35Yeah, but her blood work didn't show any fentanyl or meth.
05:39I know, I know, I know, only non-lethal levels, of course, you'll, same as the case of her sister.
05:50She died a couple of years ago.
05:52And I don't believe in coincidence as much.
05:55So I reached out to some medical examiners in the area.
05:59And?
06:00Well, several Emmys reported back that there was a cluster of unexplained deaths right around the time of destiny's sister's
06:07death.
06:08All with non-lethal amounts of corseal in their system.
06:15And nobody noticed a pattern in all this.
06:18No one was looking for one.
06:20And the corseal levels were at a dangerous amount.
06:25So there was no red flags.
06:27And get this.
06:29Brady discovered that one of the companies that manufactures and distributes to the generic version of it
06:38is Demura Pharmaceuticals.
06:43Whoa.
06:45Okay, okay.
06:47I'm going to get on the bandwagon with you that this is not a coincidence.
06:52Well, I mean, what's going on here?
06:55I don't know.
06:56But whatever it is that these cases have in common,
07:01it isn't routinely tested for in autopsies.
07:05Or it would have been discovered by now.
07:08Well, we need to do something.
07:11Yeah.
07:13Brady is talking to Steve as we speak, so they're on it.
07:17Good.
07:19Good.
07:20Wow.
07:21We need to get the thought of this.
07:24It's just...
07:25This was obviously a pattern in the past.
07:31What if this is history repeating itself?
07:36It's hard to buy that it's all a coincidence.
07:40It can't be.
07:42Okay.
07:44I'll use my ISA resources to see if I can find out more about Liam Sileko's sudden influx of cash.
07:53You and Sarah should talk to him, see if he's willing to tell you anything about his ex-girlfriend's overdose.
08:00But I've got to say, my money is on the DeMera Connection.
08:03That was quite the find.
08:06Still, still, there's plenty of companies out there that manufacture that drug.
08:11Well, are those other companies infamous for shady business practices, ties to the black market, local to the area?
08:20None that I know of.
08:22What's our next move, then?
08:25I say we go straight to the source.
08:28E.J.?
08:29No, he's not going to talk to us.
08:32That's not who I meant.
08:37Well, I'm sorry to hear that Chanel is angry with me, although I understand why she would be.
08:43Look, she'll get over it.
08:45She's got bigger things to worry about, obviously, than you having screwed me over.
08:50Yeah.
08:52Obviously.
08:55Well, she's, uh, she's resting right now, so, um, I'll make sure she gets these.
09:02Please do.
09:03And, Johnny, I, look, I'm just so sorry that you guys are facing this cancer battle.
09:09I know that Chanel is a very strong person.
09:12If anyone can fight this, it's her.
09:17Yeah, we're, uh, we're trying to stay positive.
09:20Um, and thank you for saying that, Xander, and for bringing the flowers.
09:26I sometimes forget that you have a heart.
09:30Um, it's been known to be it on occasion.
09:34I'll let Chanel know you stopped by.
09:36Please do.
09:52um are you gonna tell me what's wrong baby all i know is that joy is at the hospital with
09:56kelsey
09:56and i gotta go thank you for understanding yeah um okay well um just like call me when you know
10:04what's going on well uh sweet bits were they were out of blueberry scones so i got a couple of
10:21almond
10:21croissants for you and alex great did he already leave for work no he's at the hospital actually
10:33with kelsey and joy what's why all i know is joy called and alex went running like a bat out
10:41of
10:41hell well i'm gonna call the hospital and find out what's going on
10:50okay sweet pea mommy's here what is going on why is she screaming what happened she got her shots
10:57it freaked her out wait that's why you called me over here oh did you think i called because there
11:04was something wrong with her i'm sorry alex i would have explained that you hung up so quickly
11:12uh so kelsey's okay other than not liking needles stuck in her legs yes she's fine but um
11:23i'm not
11:29thanks for meeting with us johnny we're not gonna take much of your time
11:32it's no problem uh chanel and trey are resting so how is chanel doing
11:42you're doing okay i mean nobody's stronger or braver than my wife uh i am not quite as tough
11:51though so i i welcome the distraction what uh what would you guys need what's going on
11:56well brady and i have a few questions about a case we're working on and we're hoping you can help
12:19sarah uh this is a surprise is everything all right it's not victoria is it no no um
12:25um i just uh i wanted to ask you for a personal favor
12:41got it okay thank you well it just talked to the nurse and she said that it was a routine
12:50visit
12:50and that kelsey is fine oh well that's a relief but then why did alex react like it was some
13:00major emergency when joy called maybe she was manipulating the situation so that alex would
13:06come running that would be pretty on brand or maybe it was just a misunderstanding and alex will
13:13explain it when he comes home yeah i'm sure um mom you know that i i always love seeing you
13:23but you
13:23don't have to come up with excuses to to check up on me i do not need an excuse to
13:31come by and see my
13:32daughter and share pastries and coffee i thought you said the pastries were for alex and me well he's not
13:40here and somebody's gotta help you eat that other croissant i love you mom i love you too oh my
13:49gosh
13:49they're so big yeah i know but i do have a small confession
13:59i um i do have another reason for stopping by i knew it
14:05well i hope it doesn't fall in the checking up on you category but i i mean we never got
14:12a chance
14:12to talk about your session with marlena i thought i told you it was helpful
14:19yeah but you didn't you didn't elaborate i don't really want to now
14:28oh you seem kind of upset that i even brought it up why it is because
14:39i don't want to hurt you
14:44what do you mean you're not fine what's the matter well as i was checking kelsey out of her appointment
14:50i was told that i owe six hundred and twenty dollars for this visit and a previous one
14:56okay well insurance cover that i thought so but because i moved states my existing plan is useless
15:03as in i would have to find a new plan which would involve a bunch of paperwork and you know
15:09what a
15:09headache that would be okay damn joy i'm sorry that you're in this predicament really
15:17well honestly i'm more relieved that has nothing to do with kelsey's health it's not that big of a
15:21deal well it is a big deal alex when i was in brooklyn i never had to pay for insurance
15:27because
15:28my dad was a doctor he took care of everything he was the first person i called but when it
15:35went
15:35straight to voicemail i panicked and i called you and i i should have just taken her to the free
15:42clinic no no no i'm all for the free clinic but we can afford for her to be taken care
15:48of here
15:50right now my dad has all the necessary legal stuff in progress so once my name is
15:55added to kelsey's birth certificate she can be added to my insurance
15:59insurance that would be amazing in the meantime whatever medical bills come in i'll take care of
16:11them thank you alex this means more to me than you know really
16:30look um johnny what we're going to tell you it's going to be difficult to hear but we wouldn't come
16:36to you if we didn't think it was important and if we could have gotten the information we need
16:42from any other source we would have but we trust you johnny and we think you can help us
16:49i'm listening we are looking into some unusual deaths that may or may not be tied to a drug
16:58that was manufactured by dimera pharmaceuticals what specifically relating to a batch that was sold
17:09two years ago when your father was ceo okay all right if my dad knows anything about that and that
17:20is a big if why are you talking to me instead of him because we know that ej would stonewall
17:27us
17:28that he would actually care and if the tainted drugs are still out there this could be a public health
17:36crisis as a matter of fact we're looking into a death that happened just the other day to a patient
17:44university hospital
17:54okay what can i do to help
18:03please have a seat
18:08so this uh personal favor what does it entail um well our schedules haven't aligned so you and i have
18:17kind of been ships in the night a bit there so um i haven't been able to update you on
18:24recent events
18:26so it is a bad victory no no no it's um
18:31it's about that patient that i lost in the square all right destiny yeah um i've been looking into her
18:43death and i think that dimera pharmaceuticals had something to do with it you think maybe dimera
18:54well that is quite an accusation i know and since titan acquired dimera and the merger
19:03oh hold on
19:06are you accusing me of having something to do with this
19:18so marlena believes that you are maybe suffering from trauma stemming from abandonment issues
19:27right from being kidnapped as a baby losing papa
19:33and i've been reading up on it and most psychologists agree there's so many of our core wounds stem from
19:39childhood
19:40well i would also agree with that
19:44but mom please understand that i am so not blaming you or papa
19:51you were and are wonderful parents you didn't do anything wrong
20:01it's just talking to marlena about it it has given me a new perspective on how i'm feeling
20:11why i act in certain ways all these years later
20:18i hope that's helping you it is
20:23and now you see why i was reluctant to tell you
20:28mom i can tell that you're upset
20:31and
20:33i'm only upset because i
20:38it just breaks my heart that you have been in pain for so long
20:42but i told you it is not your fault
20:45in fact i told marlena
20:49that i have the best parents in the world
20:52and nothing could ever change my mind about that
21:01i love you
21:09alex i am uh beyond grateful to you
21:14and
21:16i'm really impressed with what a great dad you've been
21:20in spite of
21:21the tension it's been causing
21:23between you and stephanie
21:26she and i will
21:28work it out
21:30i hope you do
21:32since that's what you want
21:36yeah alex i i really do wish that i felt more comfortable with stephanie being around our daughter
21:41but
21:42it's fine
21:43joy we don't have to
21:45re-litigate it now
21:47right
21:48okay
21:56so um
21:58when and where do you want to have your next visit with kelsey
22:01oh you know what i'm gonna have to check with stuff
22:05really
22:06but
22:07she's not gonna be there
22:09right joy she's not gonna be there
22:10but i want to make sure that we schedule it at a time when she has other plans
22:14oh
22:15so you don't
22:16miss out on time with her
22:17you know of course
22:18um
22:21well um
22:21once again i'm i'm
22:24i'm grateful and i'm sorry for bothering you
22:26you're no bother
22:27ever
22:28i told you i am always gonna be here for kelsey
22:31and for you
22:35all right baby
22:37i know those shots hurt really really bad
22:39but they're gonna help you grow up
22:41to be healthy
22:42and strong
22:44now you gotta be
22:45good to your mom
22:47okay
22:56all right well i guess just call me
22:58if you need anything else
23:00cool
23:05joe i just don't ever want you to feel that
23:07you and kelsey
23:08are alone
23:23johnny how much did you know about damara enterprises when your father was at the helm
23:31not not a whole lot
23:32i mean i was more focused on my film career at the time
23:38but if you're trying to find a tactful way to find out if i was aware of any of damara's
23:43illicit activity
23:46look
23:49there was a dark side
23:51of the company
23:52but as ceo
23:54myself
23:55i've never been aware of anything even remotely illegal going on at the company
24:00and nor has theo
24:00and if there had been if we did know
24:03we would have put an end to it immediately
24:05i'm sure you would have
24:08johnny
24:10what about when your dad was running the company
24:13things were different
24:14all right cards on the table guys what what exactly are you trying to tell me
24:21here
24:22a young woman
24:24and her sister
24:26died under similar circumstances and we think the pills that they took
24:30were sold on the street a while back
24:34possibly by damara operatives
24:39we need to know if the drugs were cut with anything
24:41or if there's still inventory out there
24:47look
24:49you guys are just doing your jobs
24:51all right i get that but
24:54my dad would never
24:57dj would
24:58would never
25:00johnny
25:02i think you'd be the last person to say something like that
25:10no i'm i'm not accusing you of anything zander
25:17from what i can tell whatever happened with that batch of drugs happened a few years ago
25:26when eejay was seen uh
25:29right
25:30so
25:33my question is
25:35would titan have retained
25:38the records from dimira pharmaceuticals when the company belonged to them
25:43and
25:45all files
25:45communications
25:47communications everything was scrubbed
25:52however
25:52given the
25:54history between titan and dimira
25:58and knowledge being power as the old adage goes
26:02so what are you saying
26:05are you saying that you still have copies of the files
26:10just tell me what you need
26:21look
26:23my dad and i have had a uh
26:26fairly volatile
26:28relationship that's no secret
26:31and even though things are on an upswing right now if
26:34my dad has any culpability
26:37to what you're telling me right now
26:39i still don't think he's gonna share it with me
26:43that's why we're asking you to do a little digging on your own
26:47without disclosing a single thing to your dad
26:52johnny
26:53listen
26:54we know it's a big ask
26:56but actually the information you give us could help your dad
27:00it could prove that there's been no wrongdoing on dimira's part
27:06all you have to do is look through the company records
27:11sales inventory
27:13any information on that particular batch of drugs at that particular time
27:18and we'll take it from there
27:21we also know you're going through a lot right now
27:24i know the timing of this isn't great
27:26given everything you have on your plate but
27:30johnny there's lives that could be depending on you
27:35unless you'd prefer we go to Theo
27:38no
27:40no
27:40this
27:42this isn't Theo's problem okay just
27:46yeah yeah give me the information
27:48i'll look into it i'll see what i can find
27:53i
27:54so appreciate this center
27:56happy to help
27:57and not just because of my fervent belief that EJ should be wearing a striped jumpsuit and pushing a book
28:03trolley
28:05seriously
28:06Sarah i need to be clear this
28:09isn't totally legit
28:11has to be off the books
28:13no
28:13texting
28:14no emails
28:15if you want to call me about this
28:16use a burner
28:18or better yet find a pay phone in some cow town
28:22i understand
28:24and thank you
28:25don't thank me yet
28:27as much as i hate the idea of
28:30sneaking around in EJ's business
28:32it's like the idea of you doing it even less
28:34so you just try carefully
28:37do not ever
28:40confront EJ directly
28:41if a confrontation is warranted
28:44you come to me
28:46do you understand
28:47i do
28:49i do
28:50and hopefully
28:51it won't come to that
28:52but i will be careful i promise
28:54you better be
28:56for our daughter's sake
28:58and because i
29:04i still care
29:05about you
29:07i still worry about you
29:12you don't have to worry
29:14i
29:15i'm just looking for information that's all
29:18i'll find out what i can
29:19and let you know
29:22thanks
29:22i'll um
29:25see you
29:26at
29:27home
29:32okay
29:45hey
29:46hey
29:48alex
29:50kelsey is doing fine
29:51false alarm
29:53i know
29:54my mom was here earlier
29:56she called the hospital
29:57nurse told her that the baby was okay
29:58oh okay
29:59good
30:00although she did have her shots today
30:02she was not very happy about that
30:03right
30:06but if it was a routine visit
30:09when joy called
30:10what what was the emergency
30:13well it wasn't about kelsey
30:15it was just like a
30:17an insurance
30:18snafu
30:19joy panicked
30:21an insurance
30:22snafu
30:23no
30:25so
30:26why
30:27why didn't joy say that
30:28when she called
30:29so that you weren't running out of here
30:30like someone was dying
30:32and why didn't you call me and tell me that
30:34baby i'm sorry
30:36i should have called you
30:38i just figured i would
30:40explain it to you
30:40soon enough
30:41you know i wanted to get in there
30:43handle the problem
30:44and get out of there as quickly as possible
30:46so i could come home to you
30:53steph i'm trying

32:40ah
32:41listen joy
32:44we understand that you want to uh
32:48protect your little girl
32:49and no one understands that better than my wife and me
32:53but for stephanie not
32:55to be allowed to see how it's his daughter
32:58yeah i um
32:59i i really should get upstairs
33:01but it was it was really nice seeing you both
33:11you hate that i'm trying to be a good dad
33:15i'm sorry i shouldn't have said that
33:18marlena has urged me to express myself honestly but i didn't need to be so blunt
33:22it's okay
33:25honestly i'm glad you're not stuffing your feelings
33:28at least now we can talk about it
33:31i appreciate your understanding
33:36especially since it is my fault that i am being frozen out of the visiting arrangement that you enjoy making
33:43with kelsey
33:44it was an arrangement that i was forced into
33:46because of me
33:52you know alex when you left earlier when you rushed off to the hospital
33:59it made me realize that
34:04that the three of you are going to be together
34:07a lot
34:09yeah steph i mean
34:12kelsey today screaming her head off and
34:15enjoy panicking about some ridiculous medical bill
34:18it wasn't exactly a great time
34:21i understand but
34:22because it wasn't a great time
34:27things were different i could have been there with you
34:31supporting you
34:33but instead i was i was sitting here and i was
34:38worrying about kelsey and you
34:41i felt so
34:42useless
34:43yeah you are not useless
34:45i hate that you feel that way steph i'm sorry
34:48don't be
34:50like i just said i am the only one to blame for being shut out of your daughter's life like
34:54this
34:55and and i
34:57i have to accept that you are going to be spending time with her and her mother
35:02and that it's not always going to be
35:05serious
35:10you're going to be doing fun things at some point like
35:14like going to the playground
35:16the zoo
35:18the pumpkin patch
35:22making memories
35:24without me
35:28i guess what i'm saying is
35:33how do you
35:36how do you see this working in the long term
35:41we've discussed this steph
35:45i am taking it one step at a time
35:51that's not what i asked
35:55sorry
35:57maybe that is the only answer
36:00that i have for you right now
36:06i am
36:08so grateful and
36:10impressed that you and steve were so persuasive that you got johnny to look into those files
36:17he was reluctant at first but
36:19he's a good kid he realized that
36:23lives are at stake here so he eventually came around
36:27well i actually have some good news too
36:29um
36:31i asked xander if he could find anything out
36:37xander
36:38i know
36:39yeah i know you're probably not very happy about it but he does have ways of
36:44he has other ways of
36:47getting information
36:49mhm
36:50sarah
36:53xander can't be trusted
36:54you know this
36:56he's either gonna
36:58see dollar signs
36:59and he's gonna try to find a way to spin this
37:02or he's just gonna want to stick it to ej
37:07i know that that's a possibility
37:11but brady he was here
37:13when destiny collapsed in the square he was
37:16just as shaken as i was
37:19and
37:21you know i thought
37:21it probably sounds naive but i do think that
37:25he's on the side of the good guys
37:28this time
37:30and like i said
37:32you know he
37:34he can get information about demira
37:37that we don't have access to
37:39him
37:42you really think that xander is better positioned
37:45to get the information that we need than johnny demira
37:48well it doesn't hurt to try every avenue right
37:53right
37:57i suppose you're right
38:00okay
38:01so now we should probably get to brookville to find leon
38:06hopefully we can find answers there
38:09let's go
38:12the drug is called coracine
38:14yeah it's a demira drug right
38:17i just want you to ask around
38:19see if anybody on the street remembers having any
38:21trouble with it during the time period i mentioned
38:24oh
38:25and
38:26you can resurrect the
38:28backup demira files right
38:30good
38:32i need to see everything on demira pharmaceuticals from two years ago
38:47coracine
38:49era of pharmaceuticals
38:52two years ago
38:57coracine
