NHTSA opened a special investigation into a fatal Tesla Model 3 crash near Houston involving possible driver-assistance use.

00:07near Houston, according to the Wall Street Journal. NHTSA said Monday it would examine
00:13the Friday crash after the vehicle left the roadway, entered a brick home at high speed,
00:17and struck Martha Avila, who later died from her injuries. The driver told police he was
00:22using an automated driving assistance system, according to the Harris County Sheriff's Office.
00:27Tesla's vice president of AI and software said on X that the driver manually pressed the
00:32accelerator and continued pressing it after the crash. It was not immediately clear whether full
00:37self-driving was engaged. The sheriff's office said the investigation remains open. Tesla didn't
