00:05We all know about the asteroid that struck our planet around 66 million years ago and
00:10ended the dinosaur's time on Earth. However, according to an international team of scientists,
00:15another object may have struck our planet much more recently and caused a global shift that
00:19changed humanity's trajectory forever. They say the object was a comet and it smashed into our
00:24planet only 12,800 years ago. When that happened, it did what all large objects do when they
00:29crashed down, caused utter destruction. However, this new study also suggests the comet's impact
00:35forced hunter-gatherers to start planting seeds as well, meaning the cosmic event was the impetus
00:40for initiating agriculture as we know it. With the researchers writing in their paper, quote,
00:44these data include changes in building architecture, diet, and the early stages of persistent cultivation
00:50of domestic-type grains and legumes. But they add their findings also revealed the first signs of
00:55keeping animals as livestock and animal domestication. The researchers also note that their study
01:00uncovered other evidence that an explosive airburst, likely caused when the comet entered
01:04the atmosphere, destroyed a human village.
