Sail Out 🇳🇱 is the closing parade of the world-famous SAIL Amsterdam maritime event. It happens once every five years in Amsterdam (next edition: August 20–24, 2025). During the event, hundreds of ships – including Tall Ships, naval vessels, heritage ships, and smaller boats – gather in the IJ harbor. After several days of celebrations, the ships depart together in the spectacular Sail Out parade. Highlights of Sail Out The Tall Ships sail back through the North Sea Canal towards the North Sea. Thousands of smaller boats accompany them, making it one of the largest nautical parades in the world. The best viewing spots are along the IJ waterfront, Amsterdam North, and along the canal towards IJmuiden.
It’s an emotional farewell – often with music, festivities, and cheering crowds.
