00:00Il y a tellement un moment où les femmes m'inspiraient
00:02ou supportaient me.
00:04I have beautiful girlfriends
00:06and beautiful mentors in my life.
00:08Bonjour tout le monde, c'est Elle ici pour Elle magazine.
00:14Oh, there's been so many moments in my life
00:17that women have supported and guided me throughout my journey.
00:21Obviously, my mother gave birth to me.
00:24She was 17 years old and full of courage
00:28and love and I'm so grateful for her.
00:32And she has been my greatest inspiration for courage,
00:36for rebellion to some extent,
00:38and yeah, just maternal love.
00:45There have been many times in my life
00:47when I perhaps valued myself from only the exterior,
00:52from the way I looked or the way I behaved in life.
00:56And as I've matured, I realized that I am always enough.
01:00I was born enough.
01:02I built my life to perform for others.
01:05That is the nature of modeling and to deliver on their expectations.
01:10But as I've matured, I've realized that really the most important thing is to be me.
01:15It's impossible to please everyone.
01:18It's not wise to please everyone.
01:20The most important person that we need to please is ourselves in the sense of,
01:25not from an ego sense, but from the sense of being true to ourselves.
01:29And today, as I matured, I'm 62 years old,
01:32and I realized that I am more vital, more powerful, more joyful, more healthy than I've ever been.
01:43And I stop worrying about what everybody else thinks and really just focus on being me.
01:52I thought I knew about love until I had my sons.
01:59And that unconditional love that I experienced with the birth of my sons,
02:03I hadn't experienced anything like that.
02:06When my sons were born, my heart expanded in a way I could never have imagined.
02:12Motherhood has taught me so much.
02:14My boys have taught me so much.
02:16I had children late. You know, I was 35 when I had my first son,
02:20Flynn, and I was 40 when I had Sai.
02:23And up until then, the focus of my energy and my creativity was really either on my business
02:32and the outside world.
02:34But then that focus became the boys and being a wise guide for them.
02:41I believe that parents are here to be a wise guide for their children.
02:45We don't own our children.
02:47Often they have to learn through their own experiences.
02:50Being a wise guide and being there for them when they choose to reach out is extremely important
02:56without trying to control their life experience.
03:01It has been a challenge, but also brought me great joy.
03:07I remember understanding that my heart was my compass.
03:12In 1980, modeling agency asked me to come to America and I said no.
03:20And I knew in my heart I actually wanted to come to America to start modeling,
03:24but I was going to law school and that was what Serious Girls did.
03:28I said no because it didn't feel like it was a responsible choice.
03:33And I realized at that moment that I'd gone against myself.
03:36I'd gone against my true desires because I was scared.
03:40I learned from that moment to always follow my intuition on things.
03:46I believe that as we mature as women we become obviously more wise because wise is
03:54the experience applied to life.
03:57And you know, when you've been around for 62 years like I have,
04:00you've had a lot of experience and a lot of opportunity
04:03to apply what you've learned to life.
04:07And that is such a wonderful space to be in.
04:10I found that it was a new beginning.
04:12It was a time for me to really explore and express myself in my truest way.
04:17To stop being so much of service to family, but to be of service to community.
04:24You know, how can I help community?
04:27How can I help the greater good actually in the world?
04:30And that has brought me great joy.
04:32I think I was a lot more serious 10 or 20 years ago.
04:36I didn't let myself really enjoy life.
04:40And today I am unapologetically myself.
04:43If I think about something or I have an opportunity or a proposition to do something.
04:48If when I think about it, I get this like butterflies in my stomach.
04:52I do.
04:53And that happens all the time.
04:55And every time I do that, I can see in hindsight my life unfolding so beautifully.
05:00And each step led to the next step.
05:03There are no mistakes in life.
05:04Even the most difficult moments have led to great learning, great understanding and great joy in the end.
05:13All my relationships have taught me valuable lessons about love.
05:17Every single one of them.
05:18My relationships with my friends, relationships in business, relationships with companies, relationships with my children.
05:24There's learning everywhere and I'm growing and expanding every day in my understanding of what it means to be loving
05:30and to be loved.
05:31The most important thing in relationships for me is alignment.
05:34Heart aligned.
05:35And you may have different ways of doing things and different flavors and different...
05:40You may even be on different journeys.
05:42But if there's an alignment there, there's always space to grow.
05:46Yeah, I think that is extremely important.
05:48There's alignment, adaptation, flexibility, open-heartedness, open-mindedness and sense of humor.
05:55You know, laughter is the greatest heart opener.
05:57You know, laughter is just one.
05:58You know, it's very common.
05:59You know a parenthood in the world must be feeling like a boy willinghide.
05:59I thought I would start by feeling like water and a woman will continue to grow.
