00:00Would the Brits rejoin the EU if they could?
00:07Ten years after the most controversial referendum in the history of Europe,
00:11the UK is still haunted by a Shakespearean dilemma, to Brexit or not to Brexit.
00:17In 2016 the answer was a shocking and seemingly irreversible yes,
00:22but in 2026 the picture is a bit different. The EU and the UK are slowly coming closer again.
00:28For example, the UK is rejoining the EU's Erasmus Plus student exchange programme in 2027.
00:35British scientists are also backing the EU's Copernicus Earth Observation programme
00:39and can also apply for grants through Horizon Europe. Something is also moving outside of
00:45the institutional bubble. Ten years ago, 52% voted to leave the EU. But today the tables have turned.
00:52According to a poll, 53% want Britain back in the EU, with 37% strongly supporting the move.
01:00The Remain or Rejoin movement appears predominant now partly because 23% of those who voted leave
01:07have changed their minds. But the next UK general election might crush EU hopes again.
01:14Nigel Farage's right-wing reform party is convincingly and consistently leading in the polls.
01:19And no, most reform voters haven't changed their minds about Brexit.
01:24Actually, the majority of them would further loosen ties with the European Union.
