02:56He will be leading the messaging platform globally.
03:11Tonight's big story is that fire that's taken place in a three-story building in the heart of Lucknow
03:16that has already claimed 15 young lives.
03:20Heartbreaking scenes as people were jumping out of the building to avoid the deadly inferno.
03:25The building housed a pet shop, a clinic, a coaching centre and a gaming zone,
03:30but had only one entry-exit zone, a clear sign of criminal negligence.
03:35Several students were rescued using a rope, while one of them had to jump in order to save himself.
03:40Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath cancelled his plans for today and tomorrow
03:44and has visited the fire spot and hospital to meet the injured.
03:47Yogi Adityanath, who faced an election in a few months from now,
03:51convened a high-level meeting at his residence with senior official,
03:54where he emphasised the deed to fix accountability.
03:57State DGP Rajiv Krishna, ACS Home Sanjay Prasad,
04:00have been asked to submit a report to the Chief Minister.
04:03An action, they say, will be taken based on the findings.
04:06But clearly, the initial findings suggest, with one entry and exit route only,
04:11and questions over whether the building had an NOC when it came to fire safety,
04:16was this a fire that could have been avoided, another fire trap?
04:21Samar Srivastav now joins me from Lucknow.
04:24Samar, tell us the details when it comes to reports that there was only one entry and exit route,
04:31and questions over whether it had an NOC when it came to fire safety.
04:36What are the government sources telling you?
04:43See, Rajiv, it's a shocking incident, and I've been reporting here since 3 or 2 p.m.,
04:48and clearly see the dead bodies of those innocent lives of youngsters
04:52who had some wish to become something in life.
04:56I clearly saw those visuals, and that's quite devastating.
04:59The biggest question out here, that the building was not following any norms of fire services.
05:06Number one, there was no exit for that particular area,
05:10and that's why the youngsters, the employees in that particular gaming zone,
05:14had no idea from where to escape.
05:17The biggest point is that the entire area was covered with a glass,
05:20and later, when we spoke to the eyewitnesses present there,
05:23they started hurling the stones at that particular building.
05:26Thereafter, some glass broke up, and later, some students tried to jump,
05:31some employees tried to jump off from that particular area,
05:34in which you can clearly see the visuals.
05:36When the fire was at the initial stage,
05:38some employees also started using it one after another,
05:42trying to come down from that particular building.
05:44But the biggest point in this particular story is when we spoke to the eyewitnesses,
05:47they claimed that the fire tenders reached the spot 25 minutes late.
05:52If they could have reached that particular spot on time,
05:56might be there was the possibility of saving their lives.
05:59Also, we spoke to some people in the hospital,
06:01they claimed that those who lost their lives,
06:04they don't have much burn injuries.
06:06The reason behind the debt from sources we are getting from the doctors,
06:09we spoke, could be breathlessness.
06:12That means the lack of oxygen,
06:13because whenever fire-like incident happens,
06:16it's not just about the fire.
06:17But also about the particular breathlessness that happens,
06:20usually, at that particular place,
06:22and that led to the death of most employees,
06:25who were hardly 18, 20, or 23,
06:28in which three were girls,
06:30while others were boys.
06:32Back to you.
06:35Who owned the building?
06:36Who owned this building?
06:38Who owned this building?
06:39Who are the owners of this building?
06:40Has anyone been arrested so far?
06:46See, CM Yogi Adityanath is taking the high-level meeting at the Mukha Mantri Awas,
06:51as we are getting from the sources,
06:53but the biggest point is that there is one CEO which has come into the light,
06:57and police is investigating this particular case.
07:00No arrest or detention has taken place yet,
07:02but Deputy CM Brijesh Bhattar claims that inquiry has started in this particular matter,
07:07and police is noting down all the details.
07:10No. 1, what we are getting from the sources,
07:12the cause of fire is the short circuit,
07:15but what actually happened,
07:17because what we know clearly,
07:18that they were not following the fire norms,
07:20they don't have any exit plan,
07:22they even did not have any ladder.
07:23The basic point in any complex coaching centre or any office is that
07:27they must have some fire extinguishers ladder in emergency-like situation,
07:32they have nothing at all.
07:33So, strict action will be taken,
07:35that's what CM Yogi Adityanath has ensured,
07:36it needs to be worth seeing,
07:39whether the CEO of that particular company,
07:41because the images have surfaced on social media as well,
07:44he will be arrested or not,
07:45it's going to be worth seeing.
07:46Back to you.
07:48Well, what is very clear,
07:50no, as you say, no fire extinguishers,
07:52there was no ladder,
07:54just one entry and exit route,
07:57it is seemingly another fire trap,
08:00and there are hundreds of such fire traps.
08:01We talk about smart cities,
08:03we simply don't have enough of regulation
08:07when it comes to fire safety.
08:09Okay, let me turn from there
08:11to our top political story today,
08:13because it's official now.
08:15Six Shiv Sena UBT MPs
08:17today dumped their party and jumped ship.
08:20They joined Ektaad Shinde's led Shiv Sena in Mumbai,
08:24boosting the NDA numbers in parliament
08:26ahead of the monsoon session.
08:28The Sena UBT claims that these MPs are betrayers
08:31who've left the party
08:33because they were allegedly being given incentives,
08:37including cash,
08:39to join the other side.
08:40India today,
08:41with our top political story.
08:43Ek vaakke menalur do.
08:57Operation Tiger is no longer
09:00just political gossip.
09:01It is now a political reality.
09:07In a massive setback
09:08for Uddhav Thakre's Shiv Sena UBT,
09:11six of its nine loks of IMPs
09:13have crossed over
09:14to Ekmaa Shinde's Shiv Sena.
09:44Further escalating the battle
09:46over Bala Saab Thakre's legacy,
09:48Shinde claimed
09:49that his faction
09:50is carrying forward
09:51the founder's original ideology.
09:57Shinde's son
09:58and Shiv Sena MP,
09:59Shrikan Shinde,
10:00also hit back
10:01at Uddhav Thakre,
10:02saying leaders
10:03are considered loyal
10:04only till they remain with Uddhav.
10:21For Uddhav Thakre,
10:23the timing could not be worse.
10:25The defection comes just days
10:26after the Mahayuti Alliance
10:28swept the Maharashtra
10:30Legislative Council polls.
10:33Amit buzzed that more leaders
10:34could defect the UBT Sena chief,
10:36chaired a meeting
10:37of party MLAs and MLCs,
10:39seeking to keep
10:40his state unit united.
10:42But three UBT MLAs
10:44and one UBT MLA
10:45skipped the meet.
11:11The exodus is more than
11:12just numbers game.
11:14With six MPs crossing over,
11:16Ekna Shinde's bargaining power
11:18with the NDA
11:19gets a major boost.
11:20His claim of leading
11:21the real Shiv Sena
11:23gains fresh momentum
11:24and the battle
11:25over Bala Saab Thakre's legacy
11:27takes a decisive turn.
11:29With his parliamentary strength
11:30growing and political momentum
11:32firmly on his side,
11:35Shinde has scored
11:36a major psychological win
11:37over Uddhav Thakre.
11:41The Tiger has struck again
11:43in Maharashtra.
11:44For Uddhav,
11:45the battle just got tougher
11:47and the fight for Bala Saab's legacy
11:49is far from over.
11:51With Mustafa Sheikh and Vidya
11:53in Mumbai,
11:54Bureau Report,
11:55India Today.
11:57Okay, let's raise some big questions
11:59then tonight.
12:00The Sena-UBT split
12:01is another example
12:03of political opportunism.
12:05Has ideology lost out
12:06to power politics?
12:07Is it the end of the road
12:09for the Thakre's?
12:10The Sena-UBT split,
12:11is it a part of the BJP's
12:13war on opposition parties?
12:16Joining me now
12:16is Krishna Hegde,
12:18former MLA and spokesperson
12:19Shiv Sena Shinde.
12:21Akhil Chitre,
12:22spokesperson of the Shiv Sena UBT.
12:24Good to have both of you there.
12:26Let me come to you,
12:27Krishna Hegde Ji.
12:28Please tell me,
12:30do you concede
12:31that these MPs
12:33who fought against you
12:34just two years ago
12:35and today are joining you
12:37are Gaddaars?
12:38The word that was used
12:39by Uddhav Thakre,
12:40by the Uddhav Thakre group
12:43is these are essentially Gaddaars.
12:45They fight against you
12:47during election,
12:48now switch
12:48because they want power.
12:49Everybody wants
12:50the malai of power.
12:52Power ki malai.
12:57Rajdeep Sanjay Dhinapathil ji
12:59has already mentioned
13:00that he was stiffened
13:01in the party,
13:02he was uncomfortable,
13:03he could not work
13:04in his own constituency.
13:06There were some leaders
13:07who were abusing him there
13:08and even when you know
13:10that there were rumors
13:11of these people
13:12coming with us,
13:13what kind of abusive language
13:14was put towards
13:17across to them
13:18and when you use
13:19such abusive language
13:20against your own
13:21member of parliaments,
13:23I don't think anyone
13:24would want to stay there.
13:25Moreover,
13:26on one side,
13:27there is a stiffened up
13:29atmosphere,
13:30there is uncomfortableness,
13:32there is a leader
13:33who is not accessible,
13:34there is a coterie
13:35which wants to cut you off,
13:36there is a Facebook live
13:40meeting going on
13:41among your people,
13:43you are not accessible
13:44to your cadre
13:44and then the other side
13:46there is the leadership
13:47of Eknath Chindeji
13:48who is a grassroot
13:50and ground level leader
13:52who is accessible,
13:53there is a leadership
13:54of Narendra Modi ji,
13:56these people are obviously
13:57going to support the NDA
13:58along with the Mahayuti
14:00and we are going towards
14:02the victory.
14:02So should they,
14:03but Mr. Hegde,
14:05Mr. Hegde,
14:06if they feel so strongly
14:07on these issues,
14:08doesn't public morality
14:10demand that they resign
14:12and recontest
14:13on their fresh symbol,
14:14I mean,
14:15you ask voters
14:16to vote for you
14:17on a particular symbol,
14:18you ask them
14:19to vote for you
14:20on an anti-BJP,
14:21anti-Shinde Sena alliance
14:22and now you switch sides,
14:25Om Nimbalkar
14:26till the other day
14:27was saying that
14:27Uddhav Thakriya
14:28and Bhanasaheb Thakriya
14:29like God to him
14:30and today he has joined you.
14:33I mean,
14:33what kind of politics
14:34is this?
14:37Rajdeep,
14:38I must remind you
14:38that the Bharkir Janata
14:40party and the Shiv Sena
14:41came together
14:42in 1989
14:43under the plank
14:45of Hindutva
14:45and Asmita
14:46of the Marathi Manus.
14:48Till 2019
14:50they were together.
14:51what suddenly
14:52happened to
14:52Uddhav Thakriya
14:53who went
14:54with the Congress?
14:55That was the Congress
14:55which his father
14:56Hindu Rudev Samarath
14:58Tanban Nibhala
14:59Sahib Thakriya
14:59said,
15:10Why didn't you speak
15:12about the ideology
15:12then?
15:13Why about the ideology
15:14now?
15:15It is Uddhav Thakriya
15:16who left
15:17the Bharkir Janata
15:19party and went
15:19to the Congress
15:20and not the other
15:21way around.
15:22Even in 2019
15:23he had the numbers
15:24from the government
15:26but he wanted to
15:27become the Chief
15:27Minister of Malaschka
15:28and that's why
15:29he forgot his ideology.
15:32Okay,
15:33Akhil,
15:33respond to that
15:34last point
15:35that if today
15:36you are calling
15:37these six MPs
15:39gaddaars or betrayers
15:40in 2019
15:41it was Uddhav Thakriya
15:43who allegedly
15:44betrayed the BJP
15:45pre-poll alliance
15:47post-poll
15:47decides to become
15:48Chief Minister
15:49with the Congress
15:50and NCP
15:50and dumps the same
15:52BJP.
15:53So,
15:54Nehle Pe Dehla
15:55is what Krishna
15:56is suggesting.
15:57Who betrayed whom?
16:03Rajdeep ji this is
16:05absolutely hilarious
16:06because
16:07they talking about
16:09Congress
16:11is like
16:11I don't know
16:12they were talking
16:13about Congress
16:14Mukta Bharat
16:15Bharatiya Janata Party
16:16Bharatiya Janata Party
16:17was talking about
16:18Congress Mukta Bharat
16:19and today
16:19if you see
16:2095% of their
16:22ministers
16:23and top leadership
16:24if you make them
16:25sit in one line
16:26you will find that
16:2695% of them
16:28are from the Congress
16:29secondly
16:30when you talk about
16:31this test tube baby
16:32of Bharatiya Janata Party
16:33created and nurtured
16:35by Amit Shah
16:36this Shindegarj
16:37they had
16:38problems with
16:40Shiva Sena
16:40and they parted ways
16:41saying that
16:42stating that
16:43they cannot
16:44sit with
16:46NCP
16:55Bharatiya
16:56but yesterday
16:57I saw their rally
16:58even in their rally
16:59even the
17:00member of parliament
17:02Jyoti
17:03Vagmari
17:03I think
17:04she is also
17:04from Congress
17:05and all the other
17:06party leadership
17:07who are there
17:08on the stage
17:08even this
17:09Mr. Krishna
17:10who is there
17:10on this panel
17:11he is from Congress
17:12he is an ex-MLA
17:13from Congress
17:14so what are you
17:15talking about
17:15Congress
17:16that you have
17:17got problem
17:17with Congress
17:18you have always
17:19been with Congress
17:20Bharatiya Janata Party
17:22has been importing
17:23leadership
17:24from various
17:25political parties
17:26and majorly
17:27from Congress
17:28they don't have
17:29their own
17:29leadership at all
17:31so I think
17:32they need to
17:32introspect first
17:34just because
17:35they are winning
17:35elections
17:37no no
17:38Mr. Chitre
17:40do the Thakres
17:44one minute
17:44do the Thakres
17:45also need to
17:46introspect
17:47if so many
17:48leaders start
17:49leaving you
17:49first it was
17:51a big split
17:51that took place
17:52three years ago
17:53of MLA
17:53now you've got
17:54MPs
17:54do you need
17:54to do
17:55any
17:55introspection
17:56or no
17:56that people
17:57no longer
17:58have that
17:58affiliation
17:59to the
18:00Thakre brand
18:05sir
18:06if people
18:07never had
18:07the affiliation
18:08to the
18:08Thakre brand
18:09if you recollect
18:10that in
18:112024
18:12all the
18:13Bharatiya Janata
18:14Party leaders
18:15and this
18:16testupeby of
18:17Bharatiya Janata
18:17Party in
18:18Maharashtra
18:18was stating
18:19that out of
18:1948
18:20member of
18:21parliament
18:21seats
18:22they were
18:22going to
18:22get 47
18:23it was only
18:25one man
18:26who challenged
18:28them and
18:29we stopped
18:29them in
18:31the figure
18:31of 15
18:32and that
18:32is the
18:33reason today
18:33they are
18:34taking a
18:34importing
18:35member of
18:35parliament
18:35now and
18:37increasing their
18:37figures
18:40so we are
18:41always there
18:42on the
18:42field
18:42you need to
18:44understand
18:45one thing
18:46they are
18:47using all
18:49the agencies
18:50if supreme
18:51court had
18:51given the
18:52verdict
18:52before
18:53then I
18:54don't think
18:54this
18:54SENA split
18:56point
18:56would have
18:58happened
19:01ok
19:02ok you are
19:02saying they
19:02are using
19:03agencies
19:03you are
19:04calling
19:04Shinde SENA

20:36Hegde
20:36the constitution
20:38of the country
20:39does not
20:40allow you to
20:40discriminate
20:41between government
20:42projects in this
20:43manner
20:43the BMC
20:44we already have
20:45a story which
20:46was done by
20:46Indian Express
20:47a couple of
20:48years ago
20:4899% of
20:50the money
20:50only went
20:51to wards of
20:52the Shinde
20:52Sena
20:53is this the
20:54way our
20:54democracy is
20:55going to
20:55work
20:56you want to
20:56finish the

21:16got 15
21:17crores each
21:18if they have
21:19completed part

21:25does not
21:26agree to
21:26complete their
21:27projects
21:27their argument
21:29is government
21:29is not
21:29allowing them
21:30to complete

24:28going to
24:29keep
24:29make allegations
24:30and keep
24:30blaming us
24:31but why
24:32people are
24:32leaving the
24:32party and
24:33I am
24:33naming only
24:34four big
24:34leaders
24:35there are
24:35400 such
24:36big leaders
24:37who have
24:37left the
24:37party
24:37but they
24:38will not
24:39introspect
24:41okay
24:42Mr.
24:42Ekde
24:43I gave
24:43you your
24:43time
24:44Mr.
24:44Chitwe
24:44respond
24:45the fact
24:45is
24:45right
24:46A
24:47Shinde
24:48Sena
24:48has now
24:48of recent
24:49time been
24:49winning
24:50elections
24:50consistently
24:51post 2024
24:53the fact
24:54is many
24:54senior leaders
24:55over the
24:56years have
24:56left and
24:56many believe
24:57that the
24:57Shiv Sena
24:58has become
24:58a family
24:59party
24:59this is the
25:00problem both
25:01with TMC
25:01in Bengal
25:02and in
25:04Maharashtra
25:04with Shiv Sena
25:05once you
25:05become a
25:06family party
25:06then maybe
25:08other leaders
25:08feel they have
25:09no space
25:10why are they
25:10leaving
25:10will there be
25:11any introspection
25:12the question I
25:13asked you again
25:14or will it
25:15remain the same
25:15nothing will
25:16change
25:20the issue is
25:21not about
25:22politics here
25:23it is about
25:23democracy and
25:24constitutional
25:25governance
25:25because as
25:27you rightly
25:27said before
25:28that member of
25:30parliaments are
25:31not getting their
25:31funds
25:32these funds
25:33are of
25:33taxpayers
25:34it is about
25:35you and me
25:35it is about
25:36all the
25:36taxpayers
25:37the ruling
25:38party cannot
25:39use it for
25:39their benefit
25:40and coming
25:41back to what
25:41Krishna
25:42has allies
25:43I would just
25:44like to
25:44rectify two
25:45things
25:45he just
25:46was saying
25:47from 2024
25:49till 26
25:50till now
25:51he said that
25:51Lok Sabha
25:52we never
25:53lost the
25:53Lok Sabha
25:53it is you
25:54you all made
25:56false claims
25:56but you are not
25:57in power
25:57in the Lok Sabha
25:59sir post Lok Sabha
26:00Mr. Chitre
26:02post Lok Sabha
26:04post Lok Sabha
26:05the Chitre Sena
26:06has won a series
26:07of elections
26:11ok then sir
26:13in corporation
26:14we have got
26:1465 seats
26:15we won 65 seats
26:17in corporation
26:17you cannot deny
26:18that we have
26:20won Mumbai
26:21corporation
26:21we have won
26:2265 seats
26:23whereas Shinde
26:24whereas Shinde
26:25faction had
26:26taken around
26:2780% of our
26:31corporators
26:32in their wing
26:33and they
26:34couldn't even
26:34get around
26:3525 to 26 seats
26:36so isn't it
26:37their failure
26:38corporations
26:39they have lost
26:4029
26:4027 out of
26:4129 multiple
26:42corporations
26:43no no
26:43you see
26:43I have to
26:45stop both of
26:45you because
26:46it will now
26:46regenerate
26:47truth of the
26:49matter is
26:49yes Shinde
26:50Sena now is
26:51electorally more
26:52powerful
26:52no doubt about
26:53that no one
26:54can deny that
26:54the question is
26:55why are people
26:56leaving
26:57yes there should
26:57be introspection
26:58on the part of
26:59the Sena UBT
26:59but the point I
27:01mentioned and
27:01you must keep
27:02this in mind
27:03will development
27:03funds now
27:04determine party
27:06loyalties
27:06I mean government
27:07I will get
27:07development funds
27:08given by
27:09taxpayers if
27:10I'm in the
27:10opposition I'll
27:11be denied it
27:11that is
27:12fundamentally
27:13against the
27:14constitution of
27:15this country
27:15so I hope
27:16that this is
27:17also a wake
27:17up call to
27:18those who
27:19believe that
27:19we should be
27:20a multi-party
27:21democracy
27:22Akhil Chitre

27:35a defection
27:35of stealing

27:37coercion or
27:37otherwise is
27:38seen as a

33:32Santosh Kumar, EuroReport, India Today.
33:39We'll keep tracking that story.
33:41Let's turn to our top international story.
33:43The first round of U.S.-Iran talks was successfully conducted on the weekend in Switzerland
33:48where both the parties have agreed on a road map for the next 60 days to finalize a peace deal.
33:53Fully reopening the Strait of Hormuz, peace in Lebanon dominated the talks
33:57and steps have been taken to try and push forward on the same.
34:02But will it really work?
34:04What are the impediments and what has been achieved?
34:07Take a look at this report and then I'll be joined by a special guest.
34:20Days after Trump and Paisishkia signed the draft peace deal,
34:24first round of talks were held in Switzerland.
34:26U.S. Vice President J.D. Vance and his delegation met with Iranian negotiators
34:32led by Parliament Speaker Mohamed Baghir Ghalibhaf and Foreign Minister Abbas Arachi
34:38at the Lake Lusa summit.
34:40But the planche of unity fell apart when the Iranian delegation refused a planned joint handshake
34:46and a photo op with Arachi entering only after journalists were cleared embracing Pakistani
34:52Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif while ignoring Vance entirely.
34:59But talks concluded on a constructive note after a shaky start.
35:05A joint statement from mediators Qatar and Pakistan said the U.S.-Iran agreement
35:10to a road map towards a final deal within 60 days.
35:14A joint statement at the end of technical talks said the U.S. and Iran
35:18agreed to establish a communication line to avoid incidents in the Strait of Hormuz.
35:25We wanted to build a mechanism for keeping the Strait of Hormuz open.
35:29It is open.
35:31We've seen, of course, gas prices and oil prices come down.
35:34Millions and millions of barrels of crude and natural gas flowing through the Strait of Hormuz
35:39that weren't flowing before.
35:40But we also wanted to make sure that we actually set up the coordination mechanism
35:44so that we could demine the Strait of Hormuz,
35:47so that when there are the conflicts that inevitably come up,
35:50we can make sure we work through them rather than that leading to escalation.
35:54But one of the most notable provisions was the creation of a reconciliation cell
35:59involving the United States, Iran and Lebanon, which will ensure peace in Lebanon.
36:05Iran's Abbas Arachi even took to X to announce that major progress was made
36:10towards ending the Lebanon war.
36:12However, Netanyahu has vowed to eliminate Hezbollah in Lebanon and protect his people.
36:18We don't have a war with Lebanon.
36:21We have a war with Hezbollah, who terrorizes Lebanon and seeks our destruction.
36:27And when that proxy of Iran is no longer a threat,
36:30when it's dismantled, when it's disarmed,
36:33yes, we'll have peace with Lebanon.
36:35And I look forward to signing it.
36:37These and other matters are the interests of security of the Strait of Israel.
36:42I've devoted my life to protect the security of the Strait of Israel.
36:48It remains to be seen whether the fragile peace between U.S. and Iran holds.
36:53Bureau Report, India Today.
36:58So what really has been achieved, where do we stand?
37:01Joining me now is a special guest.
37:02Tritha Parsi is one of the world's leading voices on Iran.
37:06Executive Vice President of the Quincy Institute for Responsible Statecraft.
37:11Appreciate your joining us, Tritha Parsi.
37:14Your first reactions to what you've seen so far on day one of the negotiation.
37:19Do you sense that this truce will hold, or is there still far too much mistrust on either side?
37:26There clearly is a lot of mistrust, but I think it is quite significant, the progress that was made.
37:32They were negotiating for 18 hours.
37:34They made key progress in terms of putting into place deconflicting mechanisms in Lebanon.
37:40Lebanon is going to be one of the most important vulnerabilities of this deal,
37:46and the manner in which we saw a lot of technical progress here, I think, goes beyond what many people
37:51expected.
37:52I saw that some people had some sort of an idea of a breakthrough.
37:55I'm not really sure what expectations they would have, that in the first round of talks,
38:01there suddenly would be a solution that is completely unrealistic.
38:05What can be achieved and what was achieved was progress.
38:08And I think, given how deep the mistrust is, as you pointed out, and how long this enmity is of
38:1547 years,
38:16the degree of progress that has been made in a rather short time is quite impressive.
38:21So let me come, Mr. Parsi, to the specifics.
38:24One is the Strait of Hormuz.
38:26The other X factor, you know, we've seen that the Iranians have responded strongly to President Trump's threat of escalating
38:34strikes
38:34by saying that the Strait of Hormuz is neither Trump's personal casino nor the backyard of modern-day pirates.
38:41It is Iran's sovereign waters.
38:44Do you believe that the Strait of Hormuz in particular is so fully weaponized
38:48that should there be any further Israel strikes on Lebanon,
38:51the Iranians will immediately close the Strait of Hormuz on each occasion?
38:55Is that one of the concerns?
38:58Or do you believe that there will be free flow of shipping through the Strait of Hormuz in the next
39:0260 days at least?
39:05Nothing in this agreement is agreed upon until everything is agreed upon.
39:10And there is no way in which divanias will allow the Israelis to turn the ceasefire in Lebanon
39:16into the same type of a Swiss cheese ceasefires that we've seen imposed on Israel in Gaza and elsewhere,
39:22in which within days they're back to bombing those countries.
39:26All the ceasefire does that.
39:28It reduces the intensity of the killings.
39:31But nevertheless, it continues the killings.
39:33That is not something the Iranians are going to accept.
39:36And if the Israelis violate the terms of the ceasefire,
39:39the Iranians are very likely going to do something in return.
39:42They could, again, close the Strait of Hormuz.
39:45They could do other things as well.
39:46But I think it's important to note they didn't say that if the Israelis violate it,
39:51they will just walk out of the negotiations and end the MOU altogether.
39:55Rather, they're going to put counterpressures in order to ensure that the Israelis abide by the agreement
40:02and that the agreement survives.
40:04That's a very important distinction.
40:06They could have just walked away and abandoned the whole thing.
40:08They're not threatening to do that.
40:10They're threatening to put counterpressure on the Israelis.
40:12You know, you mentioned Israel more than once there, Mr. Parsi.
40:17When the negotiations took place in Switzerland over the weekend,
40:21the one country that was not on the table was Israel.
40:24And the question arises, therefore,
40:27do you see Israel being the potential wildcard
40:31who could go ahead and disrupt these negotiations?
40:34Netanyahu has already indicated he's not moving out of southern Lebanon.
40:38Could that once again become an impediment?
40:42The Israelis are the greatest threat to this memorandum
40:46and to the peace that this can bring about in the region.
40:49The Israelis see themselves as the biggest losers
40:52in any type of an agreement between the U.S. and Iran.
40:56They are quite right.
40:57They are the biggest losers.
40:58We may be moving towards a situation
41:00in which we will have the decontainment of Iran,
41:03the regional integration of Iran,
41:05and the containment and isolation of Israel as a result of this war.
41:09There is some poetic justice to it, however.
41:12Because it was the Israelis that pushed for this war.
41:14It was the Israelis that helped convince Trump to go along with it.
41:18So, given that, it's not necessarily entirely unfair
41:22that this ends up in a manner that turns the Israelis into the biggest losers.
41:27So, given what you are saying, Mr. Parsi,
41:29I presume that the next 60 days of negotiations will be a bumpy ride.
41:33We have already seen threats, walkouts,
41:36the refusal of the Iranians to be a part of a photo op with America,
41:40Trump's statements, which are harsh,
41:44Vance being a little more conciliatory.
41:46Is all of this going to be part of the hard bargaining,
41:49the optics of these negotiations?
41:51Will we have, as I repeat, asked you at the start,
41:55a more lasting truce in place at the end of it?
41:59Absolutely.
42:00I think we should have significant expectations
42:03that this is going to be extremely bumpy.
42:05There's going to be a lot of theatrics.
42:08There's going to be a lot of threats of walking out,
42:11delaying meetings, all of those different things.
42:13We had that in the JCPOA talks as well.
42:17But that was then over the course of two and a half years,
42:20at a time when war had not happened,
42:22at a time when the American president
42:24was a rather restrained individual rather than an impulsive one.
42:28So, what we're having now is the same,
42:30but it's essentially on crack.
42:32And people should have that expectation.
42:34It's not going to be easy.
42:35It's not going to be smooth sailing.
42:36But they should not overreact to every piece of theatrics or setback.
42:41It is actually all part of the negotiations.
42:44You know, you said, Mr. Parsi,
42:46Israel has come out as the big loser
42:48of this entire negotiations that have begun.
42:50What about the two main stakeholders, Iran and the U.S.?
42:54How have each side gone into the negotiation?
42:56Who has gone into it with a stronger hand?
43:00Well, the Iranians clearly have a stronger position
43:03than they had on February 27th.
43:05We have now, for the first time,
43:08exercised and tried the American military card against Iran.
43:13For more than 25 years,
43:15it's been almost a daily debate in the United States
43:17whether Iran should be bombed or not,
43:19whether the U.S. should go to war with Iran or not.
43:22Now it has.
43:23We know now what it leads to.
43:25It was an absolute disaster.
43:27And I don't think any future president
43:29easily is going to make this decision again.
43:31This means that the threat of military action
43:34within the context of U.S.-Iran negotiations
43:36have significantly lost their potency.
43:39Before, there was always that threat in the background.
43:42But that threat is now not completely ineffective,
43:45but it has significantly diminished
43:47because of the outcome of this war.
43:50That fundamentally changes the dynamics of these negotiations.
43:55You know, one more question, Treetav.
43:57Interestingly, from an Indian perspective,
43:59the fact that the Pakistanis,
44:01along with the Qataris and the Turks,
44:03were seen to play a major role in the mediation,
44:05the Sharifs and Field Marshal Munir
44:08actually there as part of the negotiations in Geneva,
44:11has Pakistan enhanced its geopolitical relevance
44:14or is Pakistan simply acting on the instructions
44:17of the United States here?
44:21No, I think the Pakistanis do add something to the table.
44:25I don't think that they necessarily
44:27have played as important of a role as Qatar
44:29because Qatar has deep, deep experience
44:32in these mediations.
44:34It has done this for a very long time.
44:37This is something new for the Pakistanis,
44:39but Pakistan's inclusion was very important
44:41to the United States.
44:42And what you're seeing as a result of this
44:44is a far deeper regional anchoring of a final deal
44:49than was the case with the JCPOA.
44:52The JCPOA was opposed by Saudi Arabia, UAE and Israel.
44:56The other states went along with it,
44:57but it didn't have massive degree of support
44:59within the region.
45:01This is a deal that the region itself has mediated.
45:04There are images of J.D. Vance
45:06and the prime minister of Qatar
45:07actually typing parts of the agreement.
45:10They're not even just in the decision-making sphere.
45:13They're actually doing the legwork.
45:15That fundamentally changes the depth
45:17and the strength of this deal if it is reached.
45:20Of course, that very much depends on
45:22whether the Israelis are successful in sabotaging it.
45:25So in conclusion, given what I've heard from you today,
45:29Trita, is the world a safer place today
45:31than it was before the 28th of February
45:33and the bombings began of Iran?
45:35Or is the region going to see even more volatility?
45:42No, it's more volatile.
45:43This war should never have started.
45:45But it's a very good thing that the United States
45:47now is moving towards ending this war
45:49and agreeing to a deal.
45:50But we would have been a better situation
45:52if there had not been a war in the first place.
45:56Okay, we'd have been in a better position
45:58if the war had not taken place at all.
46:01Trita Parsi, for speaking so succinctly,
46:04thank you very much for joining me here on the news today.
46:08Welcome back.
46:09Let's turn to tonight's Get Real India story.
46:12Three shocking incidents in just weeks,
46:14from a migrant worker to an NGO
46:15and even a police constable.
46:17Mob violence casting a dark shadow over Odisha.
46:21Rumours, suspicion, vigilantism
46:23have left lives shattered,
46:24raising serious questions over law and order.
46:27Take a look at tonight's Get Real India story.
46:41Three incidents, three victims,
46:44one disturbing pattern.
46:48A migrant worker in Sambalpur
46:50was brutally thrashed by a mob.
46:52The victim, who was a residence of Kerala,
46:54was suspected to be a child lifter.
46:57The language barrier further worsened the situation.
47:02Fortunately, timely intervened by the police
47:04saved a young man's life.
47:06Five people have been arrested so far
47:09by the Odisha police.
47:12Monographers, people the night Пикron paralysed.
47:16It was sweeping.
47:17Once they arrived in the chat,
47:20every morning one couldn't argue,
47:28every last time,
47:32we had a handful of times
47:33the virus breakĂŠs.
47:45On June 16, a Delhi NGO worker was allegedly molested and disrobed by a mob in Uri Shah's
