00:14A fresh escalation in the U.S.-China tech and trade war is unfolding again, this time
00:21targeting critical defense and rare earth industries.
00:25China has officially announced new trade restrictions against multiple U.S. companies just days after
00:33Washington expanded its military-linked blacklist of Chinese firms.
00:38On June 22, 2026, China's Ministry of Commerce rolled out a new export control list, adding
00:4610 American companies to its restrictions framework.
00:49Under these new rules, Chinese exporters are now banned from shipping dual-use goods, items
00:56that can be used for both civilian and military purposes, to the targeted firms.
01:02The restrictions also block third-country rerouting, tightening enforcement across global supply
01:08chains.
01:09Among the companies affected are major players in drones, robotics, aerospace, and critical
01:15minerals, including MP Materials, USA Rare Earth, Teal Drones, Red Cat Holdings, Ball Aerospace,
01:25and others.
01:26In a parallel move, China's Ministry of Finance announced a sweeping procurement ban impacting
01:3346 U.S. defense and aerospace firms.
01:36Companies like Boeing Defense, Lockheed Martin, Raytheon Missiles and Defense, and Andurl Industries
01:44are now barred from Chinese government and state-linked purchases.
01:49These actions come in direct response to the Pentagon's recent expansion of its Section 1260H list.
01:57Earlier this month, the U.S. Department of Defense added around 65 new Chinese companies
02:03to its military-linked list, including major tech giants such as Alibaba, Baidu, BYD, and NIO.
02:13That list identifies firms linked to China's military-civil fusion strategy and signals future restrictions
02:20on U.S. government contracting.
02:23Despite the escalation, analysts say both sides are carefully calibrating their moves.
02:29While the measures appear aggressive, many of the targeted companies have limited direct
02:34exposure to each other's markets, making the impact more symbolic than immediately disruptive.
02:41However, the strategic focus on rare-earth materials stands out.
02:45Companies like MP Materials and USA Rare Earth are central to critical supply chains used in defense
02:53systems, electric vehicles, and advanced electronics, an area where China still holds significant global influence.
03:01The latest exchange reflects a continuing tit-for-tat cycle between Washington and Beijing, even after
03:09recent attempts at diplomatic stabilization.
03:12With both sides tightening controls while avoiding full-scale economic rupture, the U.S.-China rivalry
03:19is entering a more calculated and strategic phase.
03:23For now, the message from Beijing is clear – retaliation is on the table, but so is control over
03:30critical global supply chains.
