00:03A new U.S.-China trade deal is set to cut tariffs on $60 billion worth of goods from both sides
00:11in a move aimed at giving businesses a more stable trade environment.
00:16The agreement covers everything from American agricultural products and seafood to Chinese household appliances, toys, and holiday decorations.
00:27The key point? Each country has identified about $30 billion of non-sensitive trade for more favorable tariff treatment.
00:36For the United States, U.S. Trade Representative Jameson Greer said the move could improve market access for about 30
00:45percent of U.S. exports to China.
00:49China plans to cut tariffs on a range of American agricultural goods, including corn, wheat, sorghum, meat, dairy, vegetable oils,
01:00and meals.
01:00But there is one notable exception. Soybeans are not included on that list.
01:07China also plans to lower levies on American fish and seafood, logs and wood products, cosmetics, and medical devices.
01:15On the other side, Washington is proposing lower duties on a range of Chinese consumer goods.
01:22That includes small household appliances, such as coffee makers and toasters, as well as tableware, blankets, and bed linens.
01:32The list also covers toys, fireworks, artificial flowers, Christmas tree lights, and other holiday decorations, along with children's car seats.
01:44The tariff deal comes with a longer trade truce.
01:47China says the two-month extension, running through January 10, will give both sides more time to evaluate their existing
01:56arrangement and continue negotiations.
01:59For companies, that means a more stable and predictable policy environment, at least while the truce remains in place.
02:07But tensions have not disappeared.
02:10Chinese stocks fell sharply on Monday, with the CSI 300 down more than 2% to a one-year low,
02:18while technology stocks faced pressure from a bipartisan U.S. push to restrict Chinese components in data centers.
02:26Agriculture is also a major part of the new understanding.
02:30The two countries will create an agriculture working group with its first meeting expected before the end of the year.
02:37And there is another important commitment.
02:40China has agreed to import 10 million metric tons of U.S. coal annually in 2027 and 2028.
02:49That is roughly 2% of China's annual coal imports.
02:53But U.S. liquefied natural gas and oil were not included in the list.
03:00The agreement also goes beyond tariffs.
03:04The two sides have agreed to maintain a communication channel on artificial intelligence incidents and hold another dialogue by the
03:12end of November.
03:13China will also examine and approve foreign financial services institutions, including firms with U.S. capital, to conduct business and
03:23open branches in China.
03:24And both countries will keep talking about increasing direct flights between China and the United States.
03:31So, the latest deal doesn't end the broader U.S.-China trade and technology dispute.
03:37But it does represent a new round of tariff relief, more agricultural and energy trade, and an extension of the
03:45current trade truce.
03:46For businesses and consumers, the immediate question is how much of that agreed tariff relief will actually filter through to
03:55prices and trade flows.
03:57And for Washington and Beijing, the bigger test will be whether this latest truce can hold as negotiations continue.
